separate?[edit]

Should not be separate from the other base armors, though should be indicated somehow - makes comparing harder having a separate page and most people have GOTY by now anyway. --Matthew Karlsen 09:10, 31 May 2007 (EDT)

Agreed, far from the most useful of setups at the moment. Missing the Nordic Mail added in Bloodmoon to boot. --202.7.166.174 20:01, 21 June 2007 (EDT)

Nordic Mail[edit]

Hello There!

I'm completely new to this site and to all of WIKI editing in general so be gracious, especially, if I'm here with the wrong topic:;-)

Edit: lol: Due to a copy & paste problem with X11 the original link here led you to a page, that allowed you to complain about bad posts. I think, the altered will work for you ROFL Thanks to the Thoronador who gave me the hint :) — Unsigned comment by Holgar (talkcontribs) at 00:19 on 2 June 2008

It seem's, that the notes on armour class and weight of the Nordic Mail Armor are false. The subject came up on a german gamer site [1] and I'm quite unsure to edit the doc without any discussion ;-)

In most installations the Nordic Mail Armor is "medium" with lower weights for the armor parts respectively ..

As a funny aspect, I have two alternate installations of Morrowind on my local machine, and one of them says, the wiki data are right and the other, they are'nt. Most people here say, they aren't, so if nobody other than myself is interested in the subject here anymore, I 'm going to change this some day.

Btw:I'd like to get in contact here with the author of the respective page, so that we might find the solution of this adventureous riddle ;-) 91.64.57.165 15:28, 31 May 2008 (EDT) Holgar 07:47, 1 June 2008 (EDT)

I've just double-checked and Nordic Mail is quite definitely Heavy armor. That's in the GotY edition on the PC but I can't see why it would be different elsewhere. Which edition of the game are you using? I can't see that link because it requires registration - and I can't read German anyway! –RpehTCE 03:53, 1 June 2008 (EDT)
Well You can tell, this is the most stunning topic I've ever read in Morrowind but I had to convince myself, that "NordicMail is Heavy Armor" is not correct, at least not under all circumstances. I purchased my original copy of the game in march 2003, an English version which was sold here packed with a German manual. My Bloodmoon addon is dated to the same year and contains an EV and a GV as well, of course I always installed the EV, fitting to my Morrowind inst. Additionally: in my own memory, the greaves I found then in Solstheim, ever had been "medium" and people who are very proficient in Morrowind Science ( ;-) ) insist here, that this is *right*. I myself have it installed twice, as I told above: and the very weird fact is, that I have two different files "Bloodmoon.esm" on my hd, but drawn from the same installation medium (you may consider the following listing):.
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 118425318 2003-05-01 23:37 /mnt/winH/Morrowind/Data Files/Bloodmoon.bsa
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 9631798 2003-07-08 03:27 /mnt/winH/Morrowind/Data Files/Bloodmoon.esm
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 118425318 2003-05-01 11:37 /mnt/winH/morrow/Data Files/Bloodmoon.bsa
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 9631289 2003-05-02 17:03 /mnt/winH/morrow/Data Files/Bloodmoon.esm
None of this is part of a special German distribution / translated version but there may exist a special European Version with localized Manuals, don't know about.
The Bloodmoon.esm of 2003-05-02 contains a Nordic Mail (medium armor) with the following Data
(name, weight)
complete 96,00
Boots 18,00
Cuirass 25,00
Gauntlet(s) 4,50
Greaves 12,00
Helmet 4,00
Pauldron(s) 8,00
Shield 12,00
The other says, the UESP-wiki is right :-/
Most people here are actually playing the German GotY, or the version that I have. The best I can make out of this is, that the 1.6.1820 patch I applied to the main game installation when reinstalling in last summer was a special American version case this differs from other e.g. European ones. Holgar 07:17, 1 June 2008 (EDT)
Are the ids the same on the two weights? –RpehTCE 07:37, 1 June 2008 (EDT)
As far as I'm aware by now: the only differences are in the weight numbers, changing the armor class. But I'm riding here on my tux machine :) and don't have the game at hand. Will do an additional lookup when back in the windows gaming world. Then post again. Holgar 07:47, 1 June 2008 (EDT)
I could verify, that both versions of Bloodmoon.esm use the same naming scheme: BM_NordicMail_$armorpart and all IDs are identical. Only the "Weight" differs. And I've found that there are really two different versions of the bloodmoon 1.6.1820 patch, one of them explicitly called "American Version", which should be part of the (american) GotY. The last proof might be to reinstall my testsuite here and apply the American patch but this may take some time. I'm quite sure, we have to accept that there are different versions of NordicMail Armor under way, maybe due to differences in the American and international versions ("international", as my own copy is - I have reported yet - an English version as well) ;-) Meanwhile one could wonder how to handle this? What about adding an additional column "International Versions" or so? Btw: Usually there is no need for registering at the WoP site if one won't post there ... Well, I'll try it once more and give a link here to a screenshot presenting the German Version ("Mittlere Rüstung" = Medium Armor, "Mittel" = Medium, "Gewicht" = Weight) The Char is newly created for armor testing, the screen was shot by one of the moderators there
[2] hopefully this will work for you ? I could post a screeny of the International English version which would show the same Weight Data. Holgar 12:39, 1 June 2008 (EDT)
Topic closed for me by now. I'll come back end of this week looking if there are any suggestions what to do ;) I hope that I didn't too much harm to your language
Yours sincerely
Holgar 20:38, 1 June 2008 (EDT)

() Ah yes, the old Nordic Mail weight issue. Quite similar to the Ice Armor weight issue. Well, in fact, they are the same thing. Basically, in the initial release of Bloodmoon, Nordic Mail was Medium Armor, and Ice was Light Armor. With the 1.6.whatever patch (which is already applied to the GoTY version), BethSoft changed Nordic Mail to Heavy, and Ice to Medium. At least, that's the story for the English (US/UK/International) versions. I don't know about other languages. --Gaebrial 03:29, 2 June 2008 (EDT)

Well, I understand, that this goes for the American GotY as well? I didn't found my peace without having checked this and the result of my complete re-installation from scratch proves you are right (as my test suite here stated earlier as well). As you may have read, my special annoyance was due to the fact, that I could confirm here both versions with two different installations drawn from the same material ;-) may be, an update last summer messed up and didn't succeed in updating the bloodmoon.esm as well. The German GotY says "medium", there's no doubt.Italian or French version? don't know yet.By the way: this a typo: "changed ... Ice to light" should be medium ? ;-) Holgar 05:30, 3 June 2008 (EDT)
Oops. Yes, it should have said Medium. I've now changed it, which will no doubt confuse latecomers... --Gaebrial 05:52, 3 June 2008 (EDT)
As I have to get some practice by playing in the sandbox and am otherwise short with time by now I've now just added a little note to the page header. For the rest, my first idea to add an additional coloumn obviously won't work.I have noted in my todo list the following items (if one would like to be encyclopaedic ;-):
Verifying *all* changes
Reordering the page by sorting the armor sets *alphetically*
Add a new line to every armor part like this (as it's named the line above, this should do (e.g.)
"Deviant versions" "medium" : "weight" and so on
Mathew Karlsen's edit on top was surely right, but as we've found now, it's a special thing around these Nordic Armours, so it may be a fine idea to have a special page for this ;) Holgar 16:17, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
EDIT: I am unsure whether I forgot to save my changes to the page or someone else has deleted them. If the latter is the case, it may stay as it is, of course ;-)Holgar 16:35, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
Done: Stage 1 - Added Icons and removed todo flag Holgar 13:59, 15 June 2008 (EDT)
The icon you used for the Nordic Mail Cuirass is an unused icon for the female version of the armor, which never actually appears in-game. (The armor looks different on female characters, but the icon still uses the male version regardless - there's actually no system in place for the game to use a different icon based on gender.) The file you're looking for is A\NordicMail_chest.dds. --TheRealLurlock Talk 14:22, 15 June 2008 (EDT)

() The above issue seems to have been left unresloved. I've added a {{NeedsImage}} tag to the article hoping that someone with the tools a knowledge to pull a .dds image can fix this (I am unfortunately lacking in both regards). Dlarsh(Talk,Contribs,E-mail) 03:08, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

It's .dds, that's the format for images (both textures and icons). I've uploaded the correct icon and added it the article. --Timenn-<talk> 15:31, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
i personally find the nordic mail stats wrong since i found it in game to be 121 armor rating and on IGN(http://faqs.ign.com/articles/540/540313p1.html) they claim its 110, so, what is the real value? — Unsigned comment by 188.25.238.35 (talk) on 25 June 2011
Our values are correct, but the in game value you see depends on your armor skill. With my Heavy Armor at 100 they all have a rating of 220, for instance. rpeh •TCE 14:44, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
thanks for the clear up. — Unsigned comment by 188.25.238.35 (talk) at 15:25 on 25 June 2011

Armor Values[edit]

(moved from the article)

Dude, how come when I have 100 with medium armor, Adamantium Helm is 233, and the rest of the armor is 133, and Ice Armor is 166, when medium armor skill is 100?

Either you have a mod, or your Medium Armor skill is at a high level. In any case, the values shown are now correct. –RpehTCE 18:48, 4 November 2008 (EST)

The values shown in the article are just the base value. It can change drastically depending on your armor skill in the armor type. Halfstache 06:26, 6 July 2011 (UTC)halfstache
Hi all,
I have the UK GOTY version (from 2003 I believe(?)) and the Nordic mail is classed as medium.87.112.240.34 13:37, 2 October 2013 (GMT)

Snow Wolf and Snow Bear Armor[edit]

Are there several versions of these armors? One without and one with the bonus against cold? If not, then do we actually need these armors on 2 different pages? -78.48.3.53 01:34, 19 December 2008 (EST)

No. The snow armor only comes in enchanted form. It doesn't belong on Base Armor, because there is no base armor version for these armor types. These should not be confused with REGULAR Wolf Armor and Bear Armor, which have a distinctly different appearance and do come in unenchanted versions, which is why they are on this page and the Snow armor is not. --TheRealLurlock Talk 01:54, 19 December 2008 (EST)

The value?[edit]

This has been marked as a question that needs to be answered.

Do the ice shoulder guards really have a value of 12000? (86.4.196.7 11:44, 7 December 2012 (GMT))

Hmm. If this is an error, it's been there for over 5 years with nobody noticing. I did a cursory Google search, and found just as many sites claiming the value at 2000 as there were at 12000. It's possible half those sites were using us as a source and thus copying wrong values. My computer with MW on it is dead at the moment so I can't check. Somebody needs to look this up though. TheRealLurlock (talk) 12:52, 7 December 2012 (GMT)
Just checked it and it really is 12000. -- Kertaw48 (talk) 14:53, 7 December 2012 (GMT)
Is there a possibility that the value is different between PC/Xbox? That might explain the discrepancy on the interwebs... TheRealLurlock (talk) 12:43, 8 December 2012 (GMT)

Medium or Heavy?[edit]

I have the GotY and when i wear it my medium armor skill raises, tell me please why it is heavy?! 79.238.40.93 01:55, 25 August 2013 (GMT)

change of armor type with TES anthology[edit]

I Have morrowind, tribunal and bloodmoon installed with TESA so my game version is 1.6 but the ice armor is light, bear armor light too and nordic mail medium looks like in the anthology bethesda bring back the original armor type of the first relase of bloodmoon.
