Bujold in Exile[edit]

Simple question: where does Bujold go after being exiled from the hall? CapnZapp (talk) 10:44, 18 December 2012 (GMT)

Disappears from the game, I assume. --Jimeee (talk) 12:17, 18 December 2012 (GMT)
Let's find out and write it in the article! :) CapnZapp (talk) 10:34, 19 December 2012 (GMT)

Ricklings respawn[edit]

Every time I return to thirsk, ricklings have respawned outside and inside, I have done all side questsm, chose to et bilgimuk back to the hall, then sided with the nords, killed Bujold in Hrothmonds barrow. Possible glitch? Or just that they need to continue to fight to keep thirsk? — Unsigned comment by 170.224.50.12 (talk) at 00:16 on 20 December 2012‎

I've had them respawn inside once and outside two or three times. I'm not sure if this is a bug or intended- when I first saw them inside I thought it was a bug, but when they kept respawning outside I figured it was just because it's an ongoing thing for the Nords to have to protect the area. In my case, I didn't do anything with Bilgemuck, though (I did this quest first). — ABCface 02:56, 20 December 2012 (GMT)
Happens in my game as well, but in my case, it also prevents a proper ending to the quest. I had waited a few days before returning to Thirsk after Hrothmund's Barrow (I told her I'd keep her secret) and found Rieklings outside Thirsk upon my return. Another bunch was inside the hall, which led to Kuvar initiate dialogue, but interrupt it to join the fight before I had a choice to decide between truth and lie. The game then assumes I just kept the secret and there is no way of actually ratting Bujold out afterwards. I tried loading a prior save, but no matter the time I wait, the Rieklings are always there. I don't think this is intended behaviour and I guess it's always wise to return to Thirsk as soon as possible after Bujold is back there, if you plan on telling the truth to Kuvar. 5.146.185.205 02:53, 18 February 2013 (GMT)
Is there any long-term impact from this? Can they kill off the Nords and retake the Hall, or do they just periodically respawn so that you can kill them? --Xyzzy Talk 04:52, 6 April 2013 (GMT)
Well, from my point of view, it's impossible for these Ricklings to retake the Hall. After all, many Nords NPCs there are immortal, even if the quest is over. I've noticed another thing, they won't respawn unless you get too close to the hall. Just like the giant in LargashburDreamshadow (talk) 05:31, 6 April 2013 (GMT)

Advantages?[edit]

If you choose the side of the Rieklings, you gain access to Riekling warrior followers. What do you get if you side with the nords? A vendor? -Trogdor 06:56, 11 February 2013 — Unsigned comment by 99.141.87.48 (talk)

A merchant, a few minor quests, two potential marriage candidates. That's only what I can think of off the top of my head, but there might be more advantages than that too. — ABCface 07:01, 11 February 2013 (GMT)
Beds to sleep in. Plenty of mead to take (respawn over time?). — Unsigned comment by 175.139.116.57 (talk) at 21:13 on 14 February 2013 (GMT)
Beds and mead are a pretty poor reward. Are the merchant and trainer only available to you after you complete this quest? --Xyzzy Talk 15:22, 13 April 2013 (GMT)
I just went back to a save from before I started the retake quest, and they were not available as blacksmith and trainer then. I have not sided with the rieklings, so somebody else should check that, but I believe that even if they had been available before, they would not have been after siding with the rieklings since I believe they would be dead. —MortenOSlash (talk) 18:09, 13 April 2013 (GMT)

Strange[edit]

Something is strange about this quest. If you let Bujold live, and don't tell Kuvar about Hrothmund's speech, it seems the story ends there. But if you kill Bujold in front of everyone, no one will turn hostile against you, including Kuvar. Then if you speak to Kuvar, Kuvar will ask you to say sorry for killing Bujold. The funny thing is he will ask you to say sorry a few times. If you insist not to apologize, he just run away and disappear. Perhaps they are, like Hrothmund says, too soft to fight like a man. — Unsigned comment by 115.134.191.202 (talk) at 08:37 on 16 February 2013 (GMT)

Well... When you look at it, Hrothmund's spirit basically calls all of them a bunch of wimps who shouldn't even reside at Thirsk. It clearly proves that a lot of thigns have changed after 200 years on Solstheim... People residing at Thirsk Mead Hall basically became drunkards instead of warriors who drink. --Arkhon (talk) 09:13, 16 February 2013 (GMT)

Beowulf[edit]

I realize it's somewhat of a stretch, but I think this quest was partially inspired by the story. While the Nords in the story were eaten in their hall and the ones in the game were kicked out of it, I can't help but draw a comparison between them. In both cases, there was a mead hall. In both cases, they were exploited by their weakness for drinking. And in both cases, you're left with the feeling that it must have been a pretty major drinking problem for these results to have occurred. The Rieklings are small and weak and shouldn't be able to keep Nords out of their beloved home. That's the part that's a stretch. There are 17 of them, and they can be fierce dependent on level. Still, they ARE small and rather silly. In Beowulf, it always seemed just about ridiculous that the folk in the mead hall were being eaten one by one inside their own building, when all they had to do was stay sober to save themselves. There are several lines that go pretty much like "everyone including the guards was completely passed out ... again ... and heard nothing". How much did those Nords like their mead!?--64.121.50.17 05:06, 5 September 2013 (GMT)

The first appearance of Thirsk was in the Morrowind expansion Bloodmoon. One of the Thirsk related quests there, the The Mead Hall Massacre, followed the Beowulf myth quite close. The quest Retaking Thirsk really does nothing remotely like that. —MortenOSlash (talk) 20:46, 5 September 2013 (GMT)
Ah, I remember reading about that on this site when going through the related Oblivion quest. Much obliged!--64.121.50.17 09:23, 6 September 2013 (GMT)

Letter to and From myself after killing Bujold??[edit]

So I helped Bujold the Unworthy and her crew take back the Thirsk Mead hall. Then when she went to renew her blessing, got denied, we fought, I killed her.

Now I just received a letter from a courier, it is addressed to me AND from me. My character's name is Thora de Explora. So I don't think it is just a co-inky-dink.

Without spoiling it too much for me - can you just tell me if this is part of the game or a bug in the signature of the letter???

Thanks!

I'm assuming that this is a letter of inheritance? If so, it should have been addressed from the jarl of the hold you were in, but since Solstheim doesn't have a jarl, maybe this is the result. I don't see anything in the CSList record for this quest that prohibits it from happening on Solstheim. --Xyzzy Talk 07:11, 15 September 2013 (GMT)

Is there any way to completely undo this quest?[edit]

I can't reload and would like to side with the Rieklings. I didn't complete this quest yet, but already killed the chief of the Rieklings, unaware that I even had a choice. Resetting the quest itself with commands isn't a big deal, but I would like to be able to do the quest for the Rieklings instead, which is obviously impossible when the Nords are currently inhabiting the Mead Hall and their chief is dead. Any way to undo the consequences of this quest? It is kind of stupid that the game doesn't inform you about alternatives you might have properly, before you make the decision. — Unsigned comment by 5.147.203.215 (talk) at 23:37 on 9 August 2014 (GMT)

You could try using resetquest DLC2MH01 as you said, teleport the Nords back to their camp if they don't leave, then resurrect the Rieklings. However, this console solution is likely to break in one of the million possible ways these sort of things do. I agree, the Riekling leader should have come up to you before the assault or something and asked you to switch sides. Sorry if this doesn't help you, but this is basically the best advice I can give you if you don't have a save handy. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 23:37, 9 August 2014 (GMT)
The thing is that I can't revive the Rieklings, since the Nords are now occupying the Mead Hall, which changes its appearances etc.. I would need to undo all of these consequences of the quest in order to do the side with the Rieklings. It's kind of annoying, because the reward for siding with the Rieklings is obviously considerably better than the Nords, the Riekling followers are in fact some of the best additions of the whole DLCs, unlike the generally terribly stupid quests for the Nords. — Unsigned comment by 5.147.203.215 (talk) at 00:32 on 10 August 2014 (GMT)
You could just try reviving the Riekling Chief, but otherwise I think you're locked out of the Riekling path. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 00:32, 10 August 2014 (GMT)
I just said that I can't revive any of them, because the Nords moved in and the whole interior changed. I doubt that they would offer me the quest after accepting the other one anyway. I need to basically undo everything. Reviving anyone isn't a real issue though, since I can always spawn new NPCs in. The actual question is how I get the other quest started and running and undo the consequences of the other one. — Unsigned comment by 5.147.203.215 (talk) at 00:39 on 10 August 2014 (GMT)

Thirsk Rumors quest[edit]

The Dragonborn: Quests page lists a quest titled Thirsk Rumors. The only info on that quest page page is a link to the Retaking Thirsk page. I don't see anything on this page about the Thirsk Rumors quest. What is the information, and why hasn't it been made available here? Evil-i (talk) 23:39, 23 April 2015 (GMT)

It is just a breadcrumb quest to lead you to Thirsk. If you have been there already, you won't get it, but otherwise you can get it by just listening to people talk around you in Raven Rock. Jeancey (talk) 23:45, 23 April 2015 (GMT)
