Nornal at the end of the Third Era

Nornal was an Ayleid settlement located near the banks of the Corbolo and Reed rivers in the northern Nibenay Basin of Cyrodiil, south of Lake Poppad. Its subterranean areas of Nornal Ageasel, Goriluch, and Varlasel can be translated as "Hall of Secrets", "Obscure [unknown]", and "Hall of Stars", respectively. The settlement eventually fell into ruin at some point after the Alessian Slave Rebellion.

History[edit]

Circa 2E 582, the entrance to Nornal was sealed off by caved-in dirt, and the exterior ruins were infested by the zombies of dead Imperial citizens, the reanimated skeletons of Legion soldiers, giant Daggermaw Bats, and wraiths. A group of adventurers gathered at the nearby Drakelowe Keep to journey to Nornal and battle the evil creatures defiling the grounds in order to seek out the vast treasures that lay within the ruins. It is uncertain what happened to them, as their flyer was found next to the bodies of a dead Dremora and Soul Shriven.

By the time of the Oblivion Crisis in 3E 433, the ruins had been taken over by a band of marauders, while the deeper halls swarmed with undead. Mathieu Bellamont, while posing as fellow speaker Lucien Lachance, left a dead drop for a Silencer of the Dark Brotherhood inside the ruins, instructing them to assassinate Ungolim, who—unbeknownst to the Silencer—was in fact the Listener of the Black Hand. The ex-Glenmoril witch Melisande tasked those infected with vampirism with retrieving an empty grand soul gem from the ruins as part of a ritual to cure the disease.
