Map of Morrowind, showing the Telvanni Peninsula

The Telvanni Peninsula comprises the eastern arm of mainland Morrowind, and is bracketed by the Inner Sea to the west and the Padomaic Ocean to the north and east. The region is characterized with rocky coasts and islands, as well as a couple of small settlements. The northern half is very dry, while the southern half is temperate, and the landscape consists of fertile plains in the east and badlands in the west, the north in particular having arid desert plateaus, mesas, and high steppes. Inhabitants of the mainland wear "Dust Adept" clothing to adapt to this dry environment. Necrom is found on a different peninsula found south of the Telvanni Peninsula, and the two are separated by an inlet. The Bathogorgen, who have the power of shapeshifting into virtually anything, are the dominant vampire clan of the region. A large unnamed island is found north of Firewatch.

Despite the name, House Telvanni's control over the peninsula has waxed and waned over the centuries. During the Interregnum of the Second Era, House Telvanni controlled the length and breadth of the peninsula and its attendant islands. By the end of the Second Era, House Telvanni's territory on the peninsula was limited solely to the hills and islands of the extreme northeast. By that time the Indoril controlled most of it, particularly the east coast up to Necrom and west coast all along the Inner Sea. As of the Fourth Era, the Telvanni have no territory on the peninsula or anywhere else on the mainland; their properties are all on Vvardenfell and Solstheim.

Geography[edit]

House Telvanni's holdings on the peninsula once consisted of Tel Aedrin, Velothis Haven, and Llothanis Heights. The "extreme northeast" is inhabited by the Telvanni, who prefer to tend their herds of giant insects amid the rocky arid hills and islands of that corner. House Telvanni cared little for what lies outside of their sanctuary on the coast. The Ruby Shroom Shalks are popular house pets here. By the Fourth Era, the properties of House Telvanni are all on Vvardenfell, and they no longer have any territory on the coastal mainland.

Baldaras, Greenheights, Helnim Wall, Sailen Vulgate, and Draloris lie within the borders of the Indoril District. The Indoril control much of the central highlands, eastern coast and western coast, while House Dres controls the southeast coast surrounding Alavelis. The Dwemer ruin of Kemel-Ze is found along the sheer coastal cliff, with easy access to it from boats and nearby mainland villages such as Marog. The Indoril also control the ancient fortress of Bal Tereg, found near Firewatch on the inlet of Ouada Gla'amnir.

The Telvanni Peninsula borders the Central Highlands region to the south, where Necrom is found. It notably shares the Inner Sea waters of Zafirbel Bay with Vvardenfell, separated by the Vvardenfell Rift. In the Padomaic Ocean, the isles surrounding Telvanni capital city of Port Telvannis are found across the Sea of Ghosts to the northeast while the Indoril isle of Gorne is found somewhere in the vicinity of Necrom. On the mainland, the peninsula shares waters with Bal Foyen and Deshaan solely through the waters of the Inner Sea, being visible from Stonefalls.

Notes[edit]

Mountains (Dark Red)
  • A concept map of Morrowind suggested that Necrom and Sailen Vulgate's House affiliation may be House Dres, Draloris (at the approximate site of Dragon Glade) was affiliated with House Indoril.
  • The biome map for Arena featured mountainous terrain in the center south of the peninsula, near Necrom. Later maps of Tamriel show mountains flowing up along the west coast of the peninsula, or mountainous terrain along almost the entirety of the peninsula.
