Cleanup[edit]

As I just added in my cleanup tag on the article, there are still inaccuracies in this article. There are several steps to completing this quest and I'm afraid they're all going to need checking in all possible orders before the cleanup can come off. These are the stages that come to mind right now:

  1. Getting the quest
  2. Killing Shashev
  3. Getting the Key (note that this can be done before killing him AND before even getting the quest)
  4. Having 11171 gold in your inventory
  5. Speaking to Sirilonwe

That is one hell of a lot of possible orders in which the quest may proceed. I've already found that 1, 2, 3, 4 and not 5 works (contrary to the article). Various previous edits claim that other sequences don't work. And I hate to point this out, but there may be differences between GotY and Vanilla.

In other words, there's still a lot of work to do before the tag can come off. –rpeh TCE 00:42, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

well... I just did this on two of my saves. The first time I did steps 1 and 4 skipping 2 and 3. The second save I only did step 4. The second time I was in Mournhold and just dropped money so that I had two piles. When I picked up the 11171 pile I got the Eltonbrand message.

I've got vanilla Morrowind, the latest patch, Tribunal, Bloodmoon, along with most of the expansions listed in this wiki.

Did some further digging and learned a bit about how the method of getting the Eltonbrand has changed. Adjusted the description and removed the cleanup tag at the top of the article. SRdV99.14.110.15 16:19, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Great work! I would never have guessed there was a difference between the two versions. That seems to clear a lot of things up. Thanks! rpeh •TCE 10:50, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

It seems somebody has edited the page to only include the old instructions again instead of just needing to have Goldbrand and 11171 gold in your inventory in the GOTY Edition. 67.215.23.83 03:10, 8 February 2014 (GMT)

I tried this using both methods repeatedly, and simply could not get this weapon to spawn. Using GotY, unofficial patch, and MCP.173.179.41.60 05:37, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

Morrowind Patch 1.6.4[edit]

Morrowind Patch 1.6.4 - what kind of patch it is? Official, patch project, etc? Please include it's full name. Oxyk 12:02, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Typing it into Google will redirect you to this page. --SerCenKing Talk 10:15, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
Typing it into Google will not redirect, it will show many pages and uesp page in the first ten results. I don't think relying on google search and release version is good enough. User should browse all possible patch projects and select one with version 1.6.4 (if that page will be still in google top results, or if user will use another search engine that page might be hard to find). Morrowind patch it's what you will find on elderscrolls.com, if you call another patch the same name it's a bit misleading. Oxyk 02:03, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
"Patch" should refer to the official patch unless stated otherwise. If the patch is unofficial, it should be stated like that every time such patch is mentioned. --Timenn-<talk> 15:15, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Morrowind Patch 1.6.4 is the full name.
It's been a couple years since I downloaded the various patches and plugins, but given there isn't a Morrowind patch 1.6.4 from Bethesda (the latest patch for Morrowind shown is 1.2.0813) I'm pretty sure I got it from the Morrowind Patch Project. SRdV 99.58.145.26 09:21, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

is the patch built into the xbox GOTY edition, or am i going to need to become a vampire?— Unsigned comment by 87.177.26.123 (talk) at 15:30 on 25 April 2010

In the future, sign your posts with four of these: ~ The patch is a third-party mod. Third-party software cannot be used with the Xbox version.— Unsigned comment by 207.228.62.86 (talk) at 03:13 on 29 November 2010
I go nuts on you for not signing and forget to do it myself. 207.228.62.86 08:14, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Real-World Reference[edit]

If there are no objections, I'd like to move this note, "The odd nature of this sword seems to stem from Bethesda developer Mark Nelson..." to the General namespace.  ~Shuryard (talk) 16:56, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

Eltonbrand is only available by use of the Egg, which is actually confirmed, so the 'seems' isn't needed. The note should stay as the section allows unambiguous real-world references and information. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:46, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
There may not be many people that care after all this time but the statement "111-71 Duke victory over the Tar Heels" is incorrect. There has never been a Duke v NC score of 111-71. This was the score of a Duke vs West Virginia game in 1963 that would have been Duke's largest margin of victory over a top 10 team when the game was in early development (they beat it in 2001). 66.91.6.213 18:00, 28 October 2020 (UTC)

Not needed to be a Vampire[edit]

I have seen that you needed to be a vampire for this to work.

However, I have taunted Shashev and killed him without being a vampire. Went and done the Boetiah questline, got my Goldbrand, dropped 11171 gold, then the rest I had. Picked up the required gold and the script ran anyway.

I doubt you need to be a vampire. I am playing under the MOISE mod pack, which I am certain does not feature a mod that removes the vampire aspect of said script.

Ran under Steam's GOTY edition of Morrowind, with MOISE modpack installed. — Unsigned comment by 94.210.118.99 (talk) at 15:58 on 9 January 2022 (UTC)

I just tested this myself and it cannot be done unless you are a vampire. You need to be a vampire to start the Shashev's Key quest; without it, you will not have the dialogue option with Sirilonwe, blocking the ability to get Eltonbrand. How exactly did you get the "someone killed" dialogue option without being a vampire? —Legoless (talk) 11:15, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
