Liquid Persuasion[edit]

Isn't it also possible to persuade him using some sort of alcohol (vintage brandy or Dagoth brandy perhaps), or am I mis-remembering?

Yes, you can offer him either Greef, Cyrodiliic Brandy, or Flin (in that order). He won't actually take it from you, you just have to be carrying a bottle. (I guess he just takes a sip or something - cheap date.) You can also do it with a copy of Saryoni's Sermons, a Speechcraft of >= 50, or a Disposition of >= 60. The Saryoni's Sermons trick is listed, as is the Disposition (though not the exact value needed), but the others are not, I'll add them. --TheRealLurlock Talk 01:40, 8 January 2009 (EST)

Glitch[edit]

It appears that when returning the shirt and pants to Bivale Teneran, you do not actually receive the 50 gold reward. 76.192.99.57 08:05, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Correct - and a good spot. I've added a bug section to the page to explain the problem and suggest a workaround. rpeh •TCE 14:11, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Temple[edit]

Actually, he turns up in the temple immediately, you just have to ask about him once again and a trader will tell you that he dedidcated himself to the temple. It doesn't happen after a few days - just immediately. — Unsigned comment by Umma86 (talkcontribs) on 5 May 2011

You're right - he moves there as soon as you leave his house. I've changed the article accordingly. rpeh •TCE 15:41, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Pay off the Merchandise?[edit]

While the unique merchandise in question were made to Ienas' order rather than mine, if I could order rings custom-made, ebony and glass would have been my choice. (Of course, my specifications would have included enhanced enchantment capacity.)

While each of the merchants requested either the merchandise returned or the rest of the amount owed, the game seems to make no provision for paying the final payments; you either return the merchandise or follow the "Evil Path".

Or am I missing something? Downstrike (talk) 11:45, 26 February 2013 (GMT)

No, there's not way to pay off Ienas' debt for him or anything. The only way to resolve the quest is to return the items one way or another. -- Hargrimm(T) 23:55, 27 March 2014 (GMT)

Pickpocket?[edit]

Can anyone test whether it's possible to pickpocket any of the items off on Ienas? All the merchants have three levels of reaction to you returning the item. Their extra-happy reaction occurs when you persuade him to give you the items, and the extra-unhappy one occurs when you kill him for them. However, there's a middle, neutral reaction that I can't figure out how it would be triggered other than pickpocketing the items and thus neither persuading nor murdering Ieanas. I checked already and no matter which method of persuasion you use, it sets the stage to 45, which is what triggers the happy merchant reaction. -- Hargrimm(T) 23:55, 27 March 2014 (GMT)

I tried pickpocketing him with console-enhanced Sneak, and the only piece of clothing he's not wearing (other than some Common Pants and Shirt) is the Glass Ring, which you can't return without the Ebony Ring, so it's not particularly useful. You could try adding those items to your inventory via the console and returning them to their respective owners to check if that works. -- Kertaw48 (talk) 12:50, 7 June 2014 (GMT)

Latest Rumors[edit]

I'm not sure whether it's because I'm using mods and/or patches but I can never seem to get journal entry town_ald_ienas. When I talk about latest rumors, the citizens of Ald-ruhn talk about a lot of things (bandits, Redoran duels, Ienas Sarandas, rogue Telvanni, etc.) but the journal never updates when they mention him looking nothing like he's having money troubles.

Another thing I noticed, when I talk to locals (sans the five merchants and Gildan) about latest rumors, AFTER resolving the quest peacefully, is that they'll mention how they heard what I did with him and how it's a pretty thing. Their disposition also goes up by 20 each time they do that (up to a maximum of 70). It reminds me of the people in Pelagiad after doing the silver bowl quest. I was wondering if anyone else is also experiencing the same thing? Salamangkero (talk) 19:59, 1 April 2015 (GMT)

Reputation[edit]

After having tested this a few times, you do NOT get the reputation point if you convince him to give you the items by letting him taste Greef, Cyrodillic Brandy or Flin. I DID get the reputation point when I used his copy of Sardoni's Sermons, though. The other notable thing is that the reputation point is given upon convincing him to give you the items, NOT when they're returned. This means there doesn't seem to be much incentive to return them (other than honesty, I guess?). Bushwhacker (talk) 19:40, 29 July 2018 (UTC)

Bug[edit]

I found a bug with the quest, I completed all the other quests and he became a monk in the temple. After completing these, I spoke to the enchanter, Llether Vari, he gave me a quest to return some designer shoes that he owed him. I asked Ienas Sarandas at the temple to return these shoes (I used the topic "overdue payments") and he said "Yes, I do have some overdue payments with local merchants. But I'm afraid I can't pay my debts right now. You see, I'm a little strapped for cash at the moment. But I have certain very attractive prospects underway, and I'm sure I'll be able to pay very soon." Using commands, I added the designer shoes for the quest item to my inventory and I was able to complete the quest by returning them to Llether Vari. DaedricSword77 (talk) 01:34, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
