Missing Storage[edit]

All right, this has bugged me since I moved into the dead man's house - kind of creepy living somewhere with a corpse on the floor, but whatever. This page says there are "a dresser and a cupboard" upstairs - I've only got one storage unit there, and to add to my confusion I'm not even sure which one it is, since I'm playing in German and "Kommode" could be either one (although I'm pretty sure it's the dresser - big brown chest-of-drawers-thingy?). So where's the other one? And while I'm at it - what's the key on the corpse for? Maybe the secret/magic/non-existent cupboard? Could of course be for the upstairs door - I picked that lock to get in.... Can anyone free me from this obsession so I can proceed to my next one? --Aelina 07:22, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

You are correct. There is just one dresser, called "Drawers". There is no second cabinet.--Brf 08:20, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

What about the room with the servant? Isn't there a dresser or something in there?
The key was supposed to open the hidden chest, but they didn't link the chest with the key, so you have to pick the lock (if you can - it's a bit awkward). --Gaebrial 08:31, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

No. The servent's room has only a bed and a small shelf. --Brf 09:52, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Key[edit]

There is a "small key" under a pitcher on the floor. What is that for? — Unsigned comment by 62.56.95.56 (talk) on 20 December 2008

As far as I know, nothing. The doors on the outside are opened with the Hlaalo Manor Key, and the only inner door is not locked, nor are any of the containers (except for the hidden chest, which has no key). There's an easy way to tell if this key actually opens anything. Drop it on the ground and see if it shows up with a Detect Key spell. You can also go to a vendor who buys Misc items and try to sell it and buy it back. If it won't show up with the spell, and if you can sell it, and it still appears in the merchant's inventory so you can purchase it back, then you know that the key doesn't actually open anything, and is most likely useless. (Exceptions are keys which are needed for quests, or referenced via scripts or dialogue. Mostly, this only means Slave Keys.) Basically, setting any Misc item as something that can open a lock (it doesn't have to look like a key - you could make a lock that can be opened with a Redware Pitcher if you wanted to) automatically defines that item as a key, and makes it not possible to buy/sell it. (This prevents you from buying a merchant's key and then using it to steal all his stuff.) Any item which is NOT set to open a lock somewhere is technically not a key, even if it looks like one and is labeled as one. --TheRealLurlock Talk 20:39, 19 December 2008 (EST)
Thanks, Lurlock. For the curious, the "Small Key" looks like a key (you don't get told anything about it when you put the mouse cursor over it in the inventory) but it turns out to be just a prop, not a key proper. Creeper offers 300 gold for it (I assume that's its base price). — Unsigned comment by 62.56.95.56 (talk) on 20 December 2008
All the keys have pages that redirect to either Morrowind:Keys or (as in this case) a disambig page. That means it's (hopefully!) easy to find out what a key is used for. In this case, Lurlock is right - it opens nothing. –RpehTCE 13:17, 20 December 2008 (EST)

Dispose of Corpse[edit]

Playing with the latest code patch (v2.0 iirc) and Overhaul - the body does have a "Dispose of Corpse" button (contrary to what the category page says of these types of corpses; or maybe it's the code patch or some other mod, no idea). However, if you click on it you get a popup message saying that this corpse cannot be disposed of (and the body will remain there), BUT any items in it will disappear. - 203.106.169.90 16:46, 21 May 2013 (GMT)

They don't disappear. The dispose of corpse button is always there, but whether it does anything is what changes. Another aspect of the button is that it autoloots everything that is still on the body. As far as I can tell, that happens first, THEN the game tries to remove it, finds out it can't, and notifies you. Jeancey (talk) 19:22, 21 May 2013 (GMT)
My apologies, I forgot to check whether the items were autolooted (which is likely what happened) rather than deleted. - 203.106.169.90 16:25, 22 May 2013 (GMT)
