Rufinus' significance in quests

I did the Fighters Guild quest, and I wonder if Rufinus is important for the other two quests he's involved with? I reckon it doesn't matter if he's dead or not in the "Ahnassi, A Special Friend"-quest, but how about "Lord's Mail"?
