Split[edit]

This is actually two separate quests, "The Mad Lord of Milk", ID: HR_MadMilk, and "Delyna Mandas in Tel Fyr", ID:HR_RansomMandas. The HR_MadMilk part of the quest covers the meeting with Athyn Sarethi and with Arethan Mandas in the cave, while the HR_RansomMandas part covers the actual rescue of Delyna Mandas, as well as the meeting with Llerar Mandas. They are related, but the two quests are differently named, and technically independant of eachother. --TheRealLurlock Talk 15:17, 26 December 2007 (EST)

I'd say leave the page as One; there are many multi-ID quest pages in the Morrowind Namespace, several way more complex then Mad Lord. Page looks clean now and coherent, no need to split. NVM, I just looked at the HR_RansomMandas ID, maybe a separate page is warranted.

Don't get the quest anymore, possible bug?[edit]

I already had one Ebony Closed Helm in my inventory plus freed his daughter. After I did this I talked to the guy in Ald'ruhn which directed me to Ebonheart. Sad thing is, the milk lord's father had no talk option regarding his son no matter what I persuaded him (100). Looks like I'm not even able to get this quest anymore..

I'm playing with MCP 1.6 and MPP 1.6.4, possible bug? 91.21.96.200 19:20, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

I haven't done this quest while I already freed Arethan's daughter so I don't know the exact details. But, according to the quest page, the quest should update normally. You say that you don't seem to able to start this quest, but I believe you have already started the quest since you were directed to Ebonheart. As I said before, the quest should update if you have already freed Delyna. If that's not the case, you can always murder Arethan to get to the next quest stage. Sad, but true. Correct me if I misinterpreted your story. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 19:42, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
I only started "Delyna Mandas in Tel Fyr" but am unable to start "The Mad Lord of Milk". As I said, his father won't give me that quest and it doesn't appear in the journal either. 91.21.96.200 21:27, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
It is Athyn Sarethi who assigns this quest, not the father of Arethan Mandas, Llerar Mandas. Have you spoken with Athyn yet? If so, give the amulet Delyna gave you to Arethan and things should be fine. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 22:19, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Athyn Sarethi didn't assign this quest but directed me to Manda's father, which didn't assign me this quest either.91.21.110.93 17:30, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Are you even a member of House Redoran? If not, and you have freed Delyna, you'll have to show the amulet to Arethan and then talk to Athyn. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 17:38, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Which isn't the quest "The Mad Lord of Milk" but "Delyna Mandas in Tel Fyr". Only when being a member of house Redoran I also get the quest "The Mad Lord of Milk"?. 91.21.110.93 18:00, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
So if I understand you correctly you are not a member of House Redoran. In that case you're not even supposed to get this quest, but you can still get the reward for this quest. Read the notes section. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 18:14, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Oops sorry, missed your question mark! Yes, only members of house Redoran can technically obtain this quest, although you can get the reward. Read the notes section. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 20:18, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
But his father wouldn't give me the Ebony Closed Helm.— Unsigned comment by 91.21.110.93 (talk) at 20:09 on 12 January 2010
With reward I meant Athyn Sarethi's reward for completing the Mad Lord of Milk. I don't know if you receive an Ebony closed helm from Llerar Mandas if you rescue his granddaughter but do not belong to House Redoran. The quest article isn't clear on that, although it states that the quest can be completed even if you don't belong to House Redoran. Since you didn't receive a reward while not belonging to House Redoran, so perhaps the note is not correct. I'll add a VN-tag to see what others might find. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 20:18, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
It is possible to get ebony helm for freeing Delyna even if you are not in Redoran House. Grandfather will not have dialog topic for Delyna, so just open the console and type: ((( addtopic "Delyna Mandas" ))) Topic should appear and by asking him you will het a helm and +30 disposition boost. This topic should be enabled on him once you reach a stage 70 (escorting Delyna outside and when she gave you locket). But for unknown reason i never got that topic so need to add it manually. There's no need to be Redoran to complete this quest (at least in CS there's only disposition boost and +5 redoran faction disp.) Oxyk 03:39, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Talking of "one bug" is a joke :-D The whole quest is messed up.

  • Athyn Serathi works quite fine. Surprisingly, the order of quests is not messed up by doing this one to early. Though you can get it only as Redoran after doing "Shurinbaal", you can complete it any time before that or even without being a member. It doesn't matter that Athyn is looking for the wrong journal index (70) to complete the quest, because thanks to a bug Arethan Mandas dialogs also use the wrong index. Sometimes wrong + wrong does equal right... However, maybe he should activate the topic "Delyna Mandas".
  • Talking to Arethan Mandas sets the wrong journal (HR_RansomMandas), which accidentially doesn't hurt anyone, thanks to a number of other bugs. He also sets HR_MadMilk to 70 when he gets the amulet, which is wrong, but works... If you start the quest by talking to him you do not get the topics "Arethan Mandas" or "Delyna Mandas", but you should. So, even if you've met Arethan and learned something about his problem, you can't talk about any of this until you actually free Delyna.
  • Llerar Mandas does not talk about anything unless you have HR_MadMilk >= 10 and the topic "Arethan Mandas". Since Arethan uses the wrong journal id and does not activate his own name, it's impossible to start the quest with Llerar. His dialog is the only way to activate the topic "Delyna Mandas" before everything is over, but you only get it by starting with Athyn on the "official" HR_MadMilk Quest.
  • Starting by freeing Delyna does work, but she will not activate her own topic. Therefore you still can not talk to Llerar about her. (Thanks, Bethesda, I really admire your work. If there is a way to mess up, you will find it.)

There are two ways to get it done.

  1. The Redoran way: Do what you are told to do. Talk to Athyn, talk to Llerar, free Delyna, bring the amulet to Arethan and report back to Athyn. Return to Llerar any time after freeing Delyna to get the extra reward.
  2. The other way: Talking to Arethan or Llerar is ok, but does not help. Free Delyna and get the amulet. Bring the amulet to Arethan, who will now activate the topic "Delyna Mandas", which enables you to get the reward from Llerar. Report to Athyn Sarethi, if you feel like it, but it doesn't get you anything unless you are Redoran.

UMP Bug (unless fixed by a newer version I don't know about): If you complete the quest without getting it from Athyn Sarethi (LTM_HR_MadMilk) you can never complete it for Athyn Sarethi, because of the different journal id. So, if you are Redoran, you better do not touch this quest without being ordered to by Athyn Sarethi. Karl1965 00:11, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

He Karl1965, if you want to have a go and try to put all of this information on the page itself, be my guest ;) Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 19:32, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Done. I wonder if we really need an extra page for [[Morrowind:Delyna Mandas in Tel Fyr|Delyna Mandas in Tel Fyr]]
At first you can't talk to Llerar without beeing on HR_MadMilk. If you rescue Delyna without quest, you have to heal Arethan to be able to finish the quest with Llerar. They aren't really two quests, more like one quest with two journal IDs. Some quests are like that... Karl1965 22:17, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
Well I'm not sure I'd have undone the whole thing, as the IP did, but I think I'd have probably removed most of it. It turned the page into a largely-unreadable mass of notes, with an impossible structure and with incorrect information in the Journal Entries section. If you're going to try to rewrite this, please can you use a sandbox first, so we can get other people to cast an eye over it? rpeh •TCE 07:29, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
While I agree with its removal for the reasons listed, I still think at least some of it should be mentioned on the page itself. That will most likely prevent similar discussions such as the lengthy talk I had with an anon about this subject over a year ago were I was unable to help the anon. As Karl1965 hinted, maybe this quest and the quest [[Morrowind:Delyna Mandas in Tel Fyr]] could be combined into one quest. These quests are only technically seperate quest and could very well be combined, just as has been done for the quests concerning Ienas Sarandas. Wolok gro-Barok 23:25, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
I've set up a sandbox. I should be able to combine all possible information and the two quests into one article. Wolok gro-Barok 21:56, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Looks good. One minor issue: The problem with Athyn Sarethi and members of House Redoran only occurs, when playing with the UMP installed. The UMP introduces a new journal ID LTM_HR_MadMilk, which is not handled correctly for Redoran players who do the quest to early. When doing the quest without orders, LTM_HR_MadMilk is used instead of HR_MadMilk. If the Redoran player does this before Athyn gives the quest, there is no way except cheating to complete the quest with Athyn. Two possible ways, which include the console: 1. After getting the quest officially, type "addItem expensive_amulet_delyna 1" and then talk to Arethan again, so he will use the official dialog. 2. Or, just type in "journal HR_MadMilk 70" and then talk to Athyn to complete the quest. Karl1965 05:11, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

All right, that part has been tweaked. Thanks. Wolok gro-Barok 13:31, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Next Quest[edit]

When I recently completed this quest, the follow-on quest was to gain additional supporters on the Redoran council. I was told to talk to Mistress Morvrayn and ? Ramoran, and also build a stronghold. Doing so gave me concurrent quests from each of the Redoran Council members. Is there a quest line (higher Redoran status, perhaps) that would lead directly to the Duel with Venim, or is that an error on this page? Or is it written this way because of how the game labels scripts? Blades336 (talk) 22:10, 28 September 2014 (GMT)
