Breaking 100% Immunity[edit]

Anyone know if you can actually break 100% Immunity to Common Disease granted after drinking the Corprus Cure potion? This page implies you can, but I've got a Breton who's taken 100+ vampire whacks with 100% Weakness to Magicka and 100% Weakness to Common Disease going, and haven't contracted Vampirism. --— Unsigned comment by 58.69.181.77 (talk) at 04:21 on 27 March 2007

Thanks, Ratwar. I can confirm that checking the corpse is enough to give someone the disease, which was news to me, and a very good tip. But it still doesn't work on the post-potion character. I'm doing the 100% Weakness to Magicka first because I assume the Breton's natural 50% cancels out half of the Weakness to Common Disease spell, but even with both going and repeated corpse checks, nothing. Is there a fancy console command that can tell me what my net resistance is? Not sure what else to try other than the "Vampirism by Console" spell. I'm not exactly sure whether or not the Breton's natural resistance to magic should effect what happens. I've never heard of someone having to disable it to catch vampirism. I would try not using the Weakness to Magicka and see if that works at all. Are you running any mods? --Ratwar 13:07, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
100% Resistance to Magicka will negate a spell like Weakness to Common Disease, which generally means that 50% Resistance will cut the Weakness in half. If I'm wearing the Saviour's Hide, then I get "You resisted magic." Also, with a 100 magnitude Drain Skill spell (and no Saviour's Hide), the skill is lowered by 50. Charm spell effects do half as much to Breton NPCs, too.
This should mean that after 100% Weakness to Disease, my resistance drops from Nerevarine levels to 50%, and I should still get the disease, but no.
I am running a number of cosmetic mods, plus all the Bethesda add-ins, but nothing that actually changes game play (I think). I tried it with just the expansion data files and the same save game, and had the same result. I'm vampoimmune. My pre-Corprus Breton, maximum stats and skills, has no trouble catching it with fewer than 10 corpse checks.
I was getting the feeling that Weakness to Common Disease doesn't work as advertised against Resistance to Common Disease. Like the latter overwrites the former, instead of being added to it. But surely players have become vampires after finishing the main quest? So I tried something else: this character had no trouble cactching Yellow Tick from a nearby Kagouti using 100% Weakness to Common Disease. Could there be a journal entry or hidden character stat regarding Vampirism specifically that I've gained? Just a thought for the unsigned above and anyone else in his boat; the Morrowind Patch Project includes a "fix/feature" that unlocks spell magnitudes above 100. So, in order to get to 0% resistance, start a game or load a save with said patch and create a custom Weakness to Common Disease spell with Magnitude 200. It'll be a bit harder to cast (obviously) but nothing a Fortify Restoration boost can't fix. And it should, all things being equal, have the same effect as 100% Weakness to Disease does on other races. Of course this isn't possible in vanilla Morrowind, but on the other hand, there is no satisfactory reason not to pick up the patch, as it corrects a number of showstopping (and less severe) bugs still included in the most recent official revision of the game. () I'm an Imperial with Corpus Cure. I'm completely nude. I use a 100% Weakness to Common Disease, and I even nuked my Luck stat to 9. I cannot get Vampirism through melee or searching corpses, I've tried probably hundreds of times and received hundreds of hits at this point. Does the Morrowind Patch Project do anything that would CAUSE this problem? The "Weakness to Common disease trick" just does not work. I've tried to be a vamp on two saves after coprus and nothing happens when I try to get the disease. I seriously think that info should be taken off because it's so misleading.86.174.83.73 22:43, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
While I can't confirm the trick not working with 100% certainty, I just tried contracting the disease with my post-corprus Bosmer and an "100% Weakness to Common Disease" constant effect item with Morrowind Overhaul 3.0 installed, by checking two different vampire bodies about a hundred times without any luck. I run Vanilla Morrowind with both expansions and with mge and i can confirm i contracted Porphyric Hemophilia after corprus cure with a nord (with 2 100% weakness spells) some time ago. It just took some seconds with a corpse (i tried it today in Galom Daeus). And now i can`t get it with my Breton even with 3 100% weakness to Magic and 4 100% weakness to disease spells (with alchemy i have 50k willpower, but even when i tried it with all stats 100), tried literally days.. My pre-corprus Breton can get it in seconds (also tried today in Galom Daeus) w/o any spell, so seems i have to try and get a fast cure for him and see if he can get P.H..But i want to know what the point is. I can be infected again if i just cured the P.H. with a spell, am i right? Else i just take the console, because that would be dump to cure P.H. and then be immune to it. How to become a Vampire again[edit]

Hello. I was once a vampire of the Berne clan, then I got cured. Now I want to be a vampire again. The problem is, when I try, it doesn't work. I type this:

set PCWerewolf to 0
set PCVampire to 0
player->addspell "Vampire Blood Berne"

and it gives me the Porphyric Hemophilia (Or whatever it's called!) spell. I wait 3 days. Nothing happens. I wait 4 days. Nothing. I wait 10 days...nothing happens. Then I tried this:

startscript, "vampire_berne_PC"

Have you tried manually adding all the Vampire spells? You may not get to look like one, but your stats will dictate that you are one. And if that doesn't work, try and see if using a clan besides Berne works. --Ratwar 17:03, 3 June 2007 (EDT)
Thanks for the tip. I also tried the additional variables and scripts besides adding the spells and now it works. But one thing...Should I sound like a vampire? Because I don't. Hi guys, I hope I'm posting this the right way, I haven't before here, but been using this site for a long time, and I need help too with this. I've tried: player->addspell "Vampire Blood Aundae" and startscript, "vampire_aundae_PC" those looked like they worked in the console, but don't seem like they affected the char. I'm also having a problem with the 100% resistance to common disease issue. I did make a spell to cast on self the weakness to common disease spell 50%-70%, and repeatedly keep using it, but so far no change over. I also tried sleeping a few times, including 24 hours. I swear I remember back in the early days of MW, there was a console command for adding the specific disease, but it's not working if I use player->addspell "porphyric_hemophylia". Also set PCVampire to 0, and variants of that, didn't work for me, so I can't tell if the game thinks the char is already a vamp, which is entirely possible. I had given my char all the spells in the game, and when they went to sleep the vampire dreams would pop up. That was happening since I added the spells, long before I actually tried to make them a vampire. Also, I just wanted to mention, to those trying to become a vampire again after being cured, the game has a script that keeps that from happening. I'm sure there's ways around it using the console, but at this rate, I'll never get this working without tinkering in TES CS. 100% Weakness to Common Disease?[edit]

How do you get the 100% Weakness to Common Disease? I'm already Nerevarine. The only thing I could think of, which hasn't been working (at least, not to my knowledge) was facing a wall and casting the Weakness to Common Disease spell. You need to find a Spellmaker and create a spell of Weakness to Common Disease on Self, rather than on Touch/Target. Alternatively, you could find an Enchanter and enchant a bunch of gear with it, but this is a bit harder and more expensive. --TheRealLurlock Talk 12:26, 22 January 2008 (EST)

Levitate Spell[edit]

The article says becoming a vampire gives you a levitate spell. I see no such spell in my spell list (though I have a massive list of spells, so there's always a chance I'm just not seeing it?) Is the spell named "Levitate"? I have a custom spell I named Levitate which gets a bit glitchy sometimes now that I'm a vampire. Sometimes if I'm already in the air and falling and I cast the spell I continue to fall, one time right through the ground and I ended up back at the door where I entered the area at. Or maybe there's a quest I need to do to get the Levitate Spell? I don't know... Jihiro 02:37, 22 January 2008 (EST)

There is a 'Vampire Levitate' spell, but it is not given to the player when they become a vampire. There are a number of mods available that give the player the spell, but you probably wouldn't want it anyway, as it costs a fair bit of magicka and it's not an 'always succeeds' spell. --Gaebrial 05:11, 22 January 2008 (EST)

() I just added the vampire levitation spell, called Vampire Fly. I have it in my spell list. It's probably worth noting that I joined the Aundae (mage) vampire bloodline and knew a spell with a levitation effect before I turned. Are you using any mods? I just did a check, and while there is a spell named "Vampire Fly" in the CS, it's not used by anything, nor referenced in any scripts, which means it's not available, period. I'm using the GOTY-edition, official mods (Bitter Coast Sounds, Master Index, Admantium Armor, EBQ_Artifact and Siege at Firemoth), latest patch and the Morrowind Patch Project v1.6.5. I haven't looked into them to see if there are anything about the vampire fly spell. I doubt I could look it up in a reasonable amount of time. It was all good until you said the Morrowind Patch Project - that's a third party mod and the most likely culprit here. We'd have to check to see if that's a change it makes, as it so happens that is one of the few 3rd party mods that we do cover on the site, though it'd have to be noted that this is from the MPP, and not there in the game as released. (Not everybody installs the MPP, and there are many versions of it, so it might not be there in all of them.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 03:15, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

I tried to reload my pre-vampire-save without MPP and when I woke up from the vampire transition dream I didn't have the Vampire Fly-spell. If it's from the official mods and matches it should be called by some quest scripts. Since the only quests available as vampire are Telvanni, the Mages Guild and the vampire clan (Aundae in my case), that kind of narrows it down. I suggest the Vampire Fly entry be removed. Entering Tombs[edit]

Moved from main page: - Not talking, not fighting, not looking at a dead corpse, just by entering a vampire tomb, you can become a vampire. It doesen't even tell you you've become a vampire. If you enter a clan-less, generic tomb (not one of the vampire bloodlines), you may just have ruined the vampire quests. I should have stated why I deleted that small section earlier. The deleted section was poorly written, and more importantly, completely incorrect. It stated that Vampirism could be contracted by merely entering a tomb. I myself have never contracted vampirism by entering the hundreds of tombs I have, and I don't claim to know all of the specifications of contracting the disease, but I'm quite sure it's impossible.

NPC Dispositions[edit]

Can someone elaborate? I experimented with Vampirism a bit, and found that even with a 100/100 response from a Silt Strider conductor, I was refused travel. No Shoes, No Soul, No Service.

Has anyone been able to continue regular interaction/quests with their Guilds or Houses as a Vampire? I read on a very old page somewhere that the Main Quest is somehow still accessible to vamps, but question whether this is so. As you can read on the page, there are no services available (outside of Vampire clan services). What the disposition and speechcraft does is that you can still talk to people, and they won't attack you outright. The only quests you can do are the mentioned Vampire quests. I suppose you can progress quests that you started before, i.e. kill this person, execute a writ, collect Marshmerrow, perhaps, but you can't finish them while being a vampire. --BenouldTC 02:09, 9 July 2008 (EDT)
Update: if you contract Vampirism, and travel to the Mainland during its 3± day "incubation" period, you'll find the first 3 main Tribunal quests (along with some of the miscellaneous quests) are completable after becoming a Vampire. Several of the quest-related NPC's in Mournhold seem to overlook the vampirism, allowing you to proceed somewhat unhindered. . .including Effe-Tei, who apparently remains willing to transport you back to Vvardenfell despite your condition. — Unsigned comment by 76.202.120.193 (talk) at 19:15 on 25 July 2008

It would not be a very good idea, as it could make the game very buggy and your characters image would be jacked up when you turned into a werewolf. Plus, it even says on the Vampires page under "Bugs" that "If you are a werewolf and you catch Vampirism you will turn into a Werewolf with a vampire head. Apart from the optical nuisance, there are several errors in the attribute calculations" So being a Werewolf/Vampire/Corprus Hybrid would be very bad. --APSX3427 16:22, 17 June 2009 (EDT)

Several Questions[edit]

I want to become a vampire, and I have questions that the article does not answer.

  • Is Vampire Touch a spell that can fail and requires Mysticism to cast? A spell like Mephala's Skill that never fails and doesn't belong to a college, but still costs magic? Or is it a power?
  • Can you get quests besides the vampire quests, or are you limited because no one will talk to you?
  • Can you travel using the propylon network if you have the Master Index installed? Will the mage transport you when you talk to him?
  • Is there any way to enchant besides doing it yourself as a vampire?
  • Do the advancement ranks for the clans matter? Do you actually have to ask for advancement, or is it automatic? Or do you not advance at all?--Xyntfos 17:43, 23 July 2008 (EDT)
Some answers:
  • You can only do the Vampire quests and progress in the regular quests you have started, normal quest givers will not let you finish them.
  • There is no Enchanter for Vampires, you have to do it yourself.
  • Vampire ranks have no bearing on the Player, doing quests allows you access to clan services and gives you perks as described.
  • Vampire Touch is a spell, and it does cost magicka, it functions like Absorb Health.
As for the rest, why not test it yourself, and then update the page? I'm on the Xbox, so no plug-ins for me. --BenouldTC 18:08, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

Porphylic hemophilia[edit]

You can catch the disease at least 3 times, while in lasting period (one from Berne next from Quarra and last one from Aundae). Tested and verified by myself. Not tested: perhaps the other outcast-members in tombs can give you it as well.

So you can end with 3 lasting porphylic hemophiliaes, from which one will turn you to vampire when lasting 3 days (the one, which you caughted first). However the interesting is, that once you become vampire, you still have restore fatigue benefit from the remaining ones. Should you cure yourself (through Mehrunes Dagon's quest}, the spell (hemophilia) persists, giving you restore fatigue bonus.

However casting cure disease will remove this.

Bug[edit]

I had a bug in my game a few years ago. I had a vampire character,and when I went out during the day,instead of taking sun damage,my character died instantly. I tried to go out several times,but my character always died. My health was full. I'm not sure if I still have the bug,but I'm going to check it soon. Did you consider that your maximum health was lower than the amount of sun damage you take per second? And did you make sure that it was the sun damage that was making you die? Also, did you check to see if any mods were causing this problem? --APSX3427 16:19, 17 June 2009 (EDT)

I'm running with both bloodmoon and tribunal mods and have the same issue, death on immediate contact with sunlight, which of course makes the vampire hunter quest impossible. this is a high level character (35) with plenty of health not to mention magicka resistance so the issue must be some sort of glitch, with or without mods since i see no other explanation for it anywhere else (yet) 24.69.248.3 17:16, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

Real Life Porphyria[edit]

It is interesting to note that Porphyric Hemophilia is a real life disease normally reffered to as Porphyria; a disease that has been suggested as the origins of vampires and werewolves because of similarities between the disease and folklore, such as skin blistering when exposed to sunlight.

Trouble becoming a vampire[edit]

Hi. I'm in one of the tombs using a spell that causes 100% weakness to disease for 1 second. I'm making sure the spel is active when I check the vampire's corpse, but no matter how many times I try, I can't catch porphyric hemophilia. Why not try a longer spell duration?To raise the chances of you catching porphyric hemophilia,or why not just get attacked by a vampire while the spell is still in affect,because even with 100% Weakness to Common Disease you still have about a 50 to 75% chance of catching the disease by searching the corpse.Also If you are wearing any Magic resisting armor(Cuirass of Saviors Hide),or maybe you have the 50% magic resistance(Bretons),or the 25%(orcs).You may also have the 75% Resist Common Disease(Altmers(High Elfs),Argonians,Redguards,and Bosmers(Wood elfs). — Unsigned comment by ChrisRodriguez (talkcontribs) at 23:46 on 8 September 2009

Homes for a Vampire?[edit]

This article states all the pros and cons of being a vampire. It also states "how to live as a vampire", but it doesn't mention where, the player as a, vampire could live. Obviously the player could live on a farm or plantation, but what other options are available? I think we could talk about the clan bases and any other suitable are. We should include how many containers and if there is a bed to sleep in. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Any house out in the wilderness that is not close to a town or Legion Fort would be a good idea. I found Andrethi Ancestral Tomb very useful as vampire home. You can use Hlormaren teleports to get anywhere (if you have collected all indices). Also you can use crafting mods to create furniture and chests, even rugs. As a bonus there's 5 vamps respawning so you will get unlimited supply of vampire dust :) Oxyk 00:49, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

It takes set PCVampire 0 or -1 but it hasn't actually made me not a vampire (which is actually a kinda big problem since Aryn Serethi still attacks me, so that quest is undoable).--TheAlbinoOrc 20:22, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Command / Personality[edit]

Hey, i have two questions,

"To use services or merchants in town, it may be wise to invest in Command spells to deal with both the NPCs and guards."

What exactly does this mean? is the quote suggesting it is possible to use command on npcs to allow them to offer services? because ive never been able to get that to work (perhaps its a patch issue.) If not, is it just a way to stop them attacking you? because that seems a rather inefficient way compared to chameleon and other such magic.

TGM Problem[edit]

While the console command TGM will prevent damage from the sun at first, the damage will appear if the game is saved afterwards and the save is loaded, you are healed, or taking falling damage. The code is still useful for preventing the red "damage taken" effect from persisting between areas over between areas.

Supernatural Skills and Attributes[edit]

One of my characters has recently contracted vampirism (Clan Berne, apparently, judging from the agility increase). As he was already on level 75 at that point, having maxed out every single skill and attribute, he does now sport solid 120s in strength, agility, willpower and speed, going around with unarmored, hand-to-hand and sneak skills at 150s etc. While being able to arm-wrestle grown werewolves and being nigh-invulnerable while swimming nude is awesome, I came to wonder whether or not that is supposed to happen - Is this a nice and clean in-game method of breaking training maxima or rather an exploitable glitch? If you have such a maxed out character already, the increases to your stats from being a vampire will most certanily push you over the edge. Killing werewolves using hand to hand should be expected. They aren't really without bloodline, just nameless vampires that don't belong to any of the three factions. For example, getting infected by the vampires of Serano Ancestral Tomb will allow you to be part of the Quarra clan, but the vampires themselves don't belong to the clan. -- Jplatinum16 00:18, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Wearing a face covering helmet[edit]

Can't a vampire simply wear a face covering helmet to prevent people from knowing your a vampire? So the following... 3 Days[edit]

Breadcrumb trail[edit]

I've noticed that on vampiric quests, the breadcrumb trail at the top of the article takes me here, when im pretty sure it should go to this article. Does someone know how to fix that? Halfstache 06:29, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

That's trickier than you might think. Simply changing the trail would also change the category, and that wouldn't fit with our usual style.
How about moving the current Vampire page to Vampire (NPC) (and removing the hat-note at the top), then moving this one to Vampire? Unless anyone objects, I'll do that over the weekend - it's still not straightforward because of other links and so on. rpeh •TCE 10:06, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Daywalker[edit]

Maybe an interesting side note for other players is, that i had a vampire once (i prepared everything beforehand) with enchanted items that regenerates more per second than i lose in the brightest light of the sun. So you did suffer and regenerate at day at the same time and can travel as free as you've been once. i played the game many many years ago and not in english so sorry for not stating the correct names of the speels/enchantments i used. (They have been permanent ones with goldensaint+ souls)

How vampirism affects Mage/Telvanni quests[edit]

I'd say this is worth documenting. For the Mages Guild, most of Ranis's quests will have to be completed the violent way. With the two escort quests (Itermerel and Tenyeminwe) you can't get the "travel together" topic from the characters as the vampire greeting gets in the way, presumably it works if you already had the topic from elsewhere. You cannot do the meeting with a wise woman quest. For House Telvanni, Black Jinx and Mages Guild Monopoly have to be done violently. Which is It?[edit]

This seems like a contradiction:

"Aside from the Mages Guild and House Telvanni, everyone will either shun you or try to kill you. This can make travel much more difficult, as boatmen, Guild Guides and Silt Strider caravaners will not transport you."

I don't have the precise dialogue line on hand with me to share, but essentially the Mages and the Telvanni sorcerers have a dialogue check that, when you try to barter, request spellmaking, travel, etc, will say something along the lines of "I won't kill you, but I won't serve you". So, it's similar to a merchant refusing a moon sugar inventory to barter with them, though it applies to travel and magical services as well as bartering... Need Help Becoming a Vampire[edit]

I contracted Porphyric Hemophilia from a Vampire in the Sarethi Ancestral Tomb and have rested in bed for several in-game days, but I still haven't turned into a vampire. Am I missing a step? Could it be one of my mods? Am using MCP 2.4 and some weather mods.

(Also tried injuring myself by falling and then resting after injuring myself thinking maybe I needed to actually heal while resting, but still just human :/. Have also tried reloading the game. Will try contracting Porphyric Hemophilia again and see how that goes. Is it possible that some vamps' PH doesn't turn into vampirism?)

Have searched online but most people just have trouble contracting the disease. I've contracted it, but it won't become Vampirism :/. Keneticmotion (talk) 03:14, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

I had the same problem, got successfully infected but it never evolved into vampirism. A script is supposed to be triggered if you sleep after 3 days since you got infected, but it looks like having installed patches and mods after starting a character in the unmodified game, can break the triggering of this script. (I verified this by creating a fresh character in my modded game, and it turned into a vampire without problems when sleeping 3 days after being infected.) The script can be manually triggered with: startscript, "vampire_aundae_PC". Replace "aundae" with whatever clan you want to become a member of. --DrLex (talk) 23:57, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

Acquiring new spells (needs cleanup, verification)[edit]

Moving this diff here for now. A lot of spelling errors need to be fixed but haven't got the time right now.

Being a vampire means that acquiring new spells, either by buying them or creating new ones yourself, is impossible. Make sure you have all the spells you need before becoming a vampire.
Being a vampire means that acquiring new spells, either by buying them or creating new ones yourself, is difficult as only a couple of npcs will still let you make your own spells and buy spells from them, these npcs include but probably aren't limited to Mehra Helas a npc in front of the mournhold-Tempel. Spells also may be acquired trough quest's that reward a spell trough dialogue for example the telvanni quests Retrieve Muck and Slave Rebellion. Still vampirism drasticaly increases the difficulty of getting new spells and may even lock you out of learning some spells, if not even most. So make sure you have all the spells you need before becoming a vampire.
