"Setstage Dark10specialwizard 40" should cause this quest to finish right? I have tried roughly infinity variations of this and "Setstage Dark10specialwizard <insert number here>" is the only one that does not give me some sort of error but it still doesn't do anything at all. I'm stuck at stage 30.00 of the quest, the part after I have killed the necromancer and I have to head back for the reward to be specific. However when I get the reward and the next quest in the dead drop the quest doesn't update. can anyone explain this whole setstage thing in laymen terms, I'm having a hard time fully understanding it.

Edit: I used the "Completequest" console command to finish this one and then the setstage command to start the second one so my problem is resolved. I'm still wondering why it didn't work the first time with my first method though. — Unsigned comment by 209.52.203.217 (talk)

Based on the quest's quest stages, there is no stage 40 for the quest, so trying to set the stage to 40 probably would result in an error message. To complete the quest, you would need to set the quest stage to the value provided for the final stage of the quest, i.e., the one with the "finishes quest" check mark next to it. So the correct command should be:
SetStage Dark10SpecialWizard 100
Generally, 100 is used for the stage that ends a quest, but to be safe it's best to check the quest page and confirm the stage number. --NepheleTalk 01:01, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

Sands of resolve[edit]

Just a tip for those who like to keep mementos of their travels, I suggest not stealing the sands of resolve from the almost-lich unless you want it to be marked as stolen forever. It's not worth anything so it cannot be sold and reclaimed to a fence. Just a tip. 24.233.128.66 19:43, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

You only have to place the sands of resolve back into Celedaen's Inventory and then take it back from him to clear the stolen Flag on the Sands --VergilSparda 20:25, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Pathetic[edit]

Is there a reason why Celadaen is so weak? i mean REALLY weak, is it a bug?--VergilSparda 19:51, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

It may be due to the fact that this quest is less about combat and more about choice; there was no reason to make Celadaen physcially strong - perhaps he has been weakened by the preparations for the tranformation? -Itachi 20:35, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Yet within his Journal ( The Path of Transcendence ) he clearly states that he is becoming stronger everyday and his only vulnerability is losing possesion of the Sands of Resolve--VergilSparda 20:52, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
He means in terms of magicly, deeper magic pool and better mastery of the arts. — Unsigned comment by 24.177.147.128 (talk) on 10 March 2010
^ That made no sense what so ever -___---VergilSparda 20:27, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
It also says in the orders you receive that he "is still immensely powerful, possibly too powerful to destroy if confronted directly". I killed him with one fire DoT spell. His page says he has 116 HP. Seems pretty pathetic. I would have expected him to be leveled. I guess the Black Hand has faulty intelligence. :) --98.240.0.201 03:47, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

FYI - Perhaps a glitch...?[edit]

So. I was doing this quest and snuck into the room with Celadaen in it, then stood to look around; stupid idea, I know. I turned and he ran RIGHT into my front, staring right at me, and didn't see me without me being in sneak mode, plus I was only a sneak apprentice anyways. Glitch or am I just more sneaky then I thought? And the Shrouded Armor & Hood I was wearing boosted my Sneak to around 48-ish anyways. 75.219.76.220 02:04, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Were you wearing any Chameleon rings/ necklaces? or used invisibility potions??--VergilSparda 20:51, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
Semi-old discussion, but you can basically do whatever you want in sneak because he has 0 sneak and will find it very difficult to spot you.--Catmaniac66 03:40, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Mages Guild Expulsion[edit]

Killing him got me expelled from the mages guild (360 normal version) why doesn't the article have a warning about this? — Unsigned comment by 97.13.208.34 (talk) on 5 July 2010

Because Celedaen isn't a Mages Guild member, and you aren't supposed to be expelled by the guild. This has never happened to me, so it looks like a glitch on your game. --SerCenKing Talk 09:29, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Moved noted[edit]

  • When pickpocketing Celedaen for the hourglass, take his gold as well. Then, when you back out of the pickpocket menu and he dies, search his body and that same amount of gold will have respawned.

This might be notable as a bug I guess but it still seems like an unimportant note. --AKB Talk 04:07, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
