Regarding Recent Changes Involving Shield Degredation[edit]

It's actually possible to start and complete the quest without having obtained the perk; if you artificially increase your block skill above 70, the quest becomes available, but you don't gain access to the perk unless your base skill is 50 or more. This may not be a huge deal, but it still bears mentioning on the page in my opinion. Dlarsh(T,C) 01:57, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Interesting; and if you remove any artificial increasers, I assume you lose the ability to receive her training after you complete the quest right? -- Jplatinum16 02:04, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
I wouldn't think so, I doubt the game would constantly re-check for the approriate skill at different points during the quest once it's started, and I believe skill drains would trigger such an issue if it exists, and would have been reported by now. I noticed this a while back when equiped with a fortify skill enchantment that I didn't remove until after hitting 50 (I can't remeber why I bothered with the enchantment, but I do remeber the result), so I can't check to see if the quest/training is removed if you skill fall too low at the moment. By the way, I also reverted to the origional version until a solution is decided. Dlarsh(T,C) 02:11, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
I was just going to revert it myself. If you are able to get master training after completing the quest but still not being level 70, it seems like an interesting bug to note. I think if we do mention shield breaking it should go in as a note, as I would think getting master training the "regular" way is what the page should be about. -- Jplatinum16 02:26, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

[OD] Agreed. It's certainly not going to be a mainstream issue, but it's easy enough to run into this that a note would definately be appropriate. Dlarsh(T,C) 02:34, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Well, I agree that the note would deserve a place on the page... if it were true. I just tested this by disintegrating an elven shield until it reached 2 health, fortifying my block skill to 94 so I could get the quest from Ambroise then talking to Andragil and taking her test. After a few hits, my shield broke and I was left with nothing... and the test continued. Several blows later (lucky I had some restore health potions on me!) she ended the test with the usual "Nicely done" dialogue.
However, I think most of the page is wrong. I tried drawing a weapon during the test... and nothing happened. I used it to hit her... and nothing happened. I dropped my shield... and nothing happened. Intrigued, I looked for more information.
In the CS, the script that checks to see if you have your weapon drawn after the test starts is commented out. The test depends on a variable called combatvar. It gets set to 0 when you first talk to her, 2 when the test starts and 3 if you complete it successfully. The "I told you not to drop your shield!" dialogue depends on it being 6, and the "Didn't I tell you no weapons allowed?" dialogue depends on it being 5. Neither condition can ever exist.
I'm going to clean up this page and Andragil's own page. rpeh •TCE 07:40, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Unofficial Patch Breaks Quest[edit]

Blocking with a shield and no weapon isn't possible and the PC will block with his hands and the shield doesn't show up.Having a weapon equipped is mandatory. --83.135.241.90 16:37, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
