Quest Stage Error[edit]

According to the page:

Stage 20: "Ilend Vonius, one of the Kvatch Guardsmen who entered the Oblivion Gate to try to close it, told me that at least one other survivor of the assault on the Gate has been taken to the large tower within Oblivion. I should search for him there. (This will appear in your journal if you told Savlian Matius you will try to close the Oblivion Gate)"

Stage 20: "At least one survivor of the assault on the Oblivion Gate has been taken to the large tower within Oblivion. I need to search for him there. (This will appear in your journal if you have not told Savlian Matius you will try to close the Oblivion Gate)"

But on the contrary, i got the first message when i entered the gate WITHOUT talking to Savlian Matius, and the second one when i start te quest "breaking the siege of Kvatch".

I believe there's a little mistake there , just poiting it out.200.121.172.252 18:33, 26 June 2008 (EDT)

Yes, you're absolutely right, it was backwards on the main page. Good catch! --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 23:21, 26 June 2008 (EDT)

Wait, what, now?[edit]

The Daedric Siege Crawler is what destroyed Kvatch in the beginning, or so I'm told. how is this possible? The gate that you arrive at is just your run-of-the-mill Oblivion Gate, and doesn't fit a Siege Crawler. in Bruma, A great gate is required for a Daedric Siege Crawler to fit through and destroy a town. If this is so: How was Kvatch destroyed? — Unsigned comment by Darkheart (talkcontribs)

Actually, the Kvatch gate is the last one that is left after the city was destroyed. Many gates appeared within the city and finally a great gate appeared, from where the Siege Crawler arrived. You can learn this from listening to the dialogues of the refugees. --SerCenKing 13:50, 1 March 2009 (EST)
If you look around at the land near the Kvatch Gate, you can see the remnants of the Great Gate. Evidently it was shut down after the Crawler had finished razing Kvatch to the ground. —Dark Spark 17:06, 1 March 2009 (EST)
So where did the Crawler go? --Darkheart 18:22, 1 March 2009 (EST)
Most likely, back into the garage. Great Gates permit travel into Oblivion as well as from it. Our own experience at Bruma proves it. —Dark Spark 18:52, 1 March 2009 (EST)
Another good question to ask is -- if a siege crawler appeared out of the clear location of the great gate at Kvatch, how come the city walls are still standing? Did it climb over the wall or burrow under it to destroy Kvatch, and then back out (beep beep beep) when it was finished? (grin) -- Wordmama 17:49, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Gannonah[edit]

Is it worth mentioning somewhere, perhaps in the notes or trivia section of this article, that the part of Oblivion entered during this quest is known as Gannonah to its inhabitants? Just thought it would be an interesting note.

LieutenantDavies 15:22, 11 March 2009 (EDT)

It might be something that goes in a Lore section, though I don't know which article that would be. Where did you find that out? --Darkheart 10:01, 12 March 2009 (EDT)
Kathutet mentions it when he starts to talk with the player, and he can later, if the player asks about it, explain that Gannonah's Dremora clan sacked Kvatch and that they later told him how awesome the player was. The exact quote is something like this: "You destroyed the Sigil Tower at Gannonah. My kin says you fought well (said when he start talking with the player). Our clan sacked your city Kvatch. A trifling task, fit for Scamps. However, your swift retribution earned you respect among my people (said when the player asks about Gannonah)." It was something like that, but I don't remember the second quote by every word.
LieutenantDavies 10:21, 13 March 2009 (EDT)
Kathutet is probably referring to the world with the siege crawler that you closed in the great-gate quest — Unsigned comment by 81.141.178.12 (talk)
I think they're both one and the same. Gannonah sacked Kvatch, brought the siege crawler back into the garage, then opened again outside of Bruma for the Great Gate quest. I guess there's no way to know for sure whether the great gate or the Small Oblivion gate is Gannonah. --Darkheart 19:55, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Possible bug- needs verification[edit]

  • There is a glitch that when you take the Sigil Stone from it's holding, the game will appear to be proceeding but the screen will turn white, and you will be stuck in the gate.

I've done the quest countless times and thats never happened to me. --Arch-Mage Matt 01:18, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
That has never happened to me either. --Bryanmichael11 16:54, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
This happened to me, When i go out of the gate, it will remain open, though i can get martian out of the chapel. They will get attacked (because the gate is not closed) I tired useing commands, but so far can't get the gate to close. When i first tired this, i grabbed the sigil stone, and it took me to Kumiko Manor ( which is a mod), maybe Lemonhead has the same mod? I disabled the mod, but they it would not transport me at all. — Unsigned comment by 174.17.21.67 (talk)
This is a know oblivion engine bug. It usually happen when you reload a previous save from inside oblivion gates to inside the gates without restart the game. The game can lost link to oblivion gates in tamriel when you doing so. Howver others things like mod interaction, unistalling mod in no proper way can trigger this bug too. Danger of Oblivion plants[edit]

The notes section says, "... some of the plants don't like being harvested." While I like the cleverness of this, strictly speaking it's not accurate. It implies that the plants will only attack when you try to harvest them, and that's not the case -- spiddal sticks and harrada roots both will happily try to impede your progress even if you leave them completely alone, and it's also possible to harvest both without triggering an attack. Perhaps a more accurate warning would serve better here, such as, "... some of the plants are not as defenseless as you might expect." Wordmama 03:54, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Fixed. Feel free the change anything else you think portrays an inaccuracy! :) –Elliot talk 05:43, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Bug?[edit]

i asked vonius to wait in the oblivion and when i came back he disappears or maybe i didn't find him 201.22.220.68 10:30, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Bug???[edit]

I have a bug that whenever i go into the chapel of akatosh, the game completely crashes and there os no way to finish this quest. Even if i do the quest stage console command thing will i be able to get martin? will he go to the encampment??? --TheElderScribe-- — Unsigned comment by TheElderScribe (talkcontribs) on 28 January 2010

Savlian has a bug in his dialogues.[edit]

When you close the gate at Kvatch and then talk to Savlian, he asks if you will help retake the city. If you say you're not ready yet, then when you come back to talk to him, he has dialogues as if you still haven't closed the gate. Eg you ask him about "Oblivion Gate" he will say he can't get into Kvatch with his men until it's closed. Procrastinator.

This looks like an isolated glitch cause my game is proceeding as normal. Try knocking him unconscious to see if his dialogue resets. Or if you are on PC, you can try using the console. Vesna 09:32, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Martin[edit]

If you have started the quest to find Martin, and you speak with him before entering the gate, will he follow you into the gate? Or are you unable to enter Kvatch prior to closing the gate? Facebag 17:41, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Martin won't follow you until you close the gate.--Arch-Mage MattTalk 18:47, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

I just realized![edit]

You can do this quest without Finding the heir. So basically you can save Kvatch and end the Oblivion invasion (if you dont want to do the main quest)in two simple quests! — Unsigned comment by Kinvalor75 (talkcontribs) at 02:27 on 6 August 2010

Not true, Marin will not follow you before you've given the amulet to Jauffre. Too bad! 92.12.95.32 14:39, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
its just a different ending so no more oblivion gates open. — Unsigned comment by Kinvalor75 (talkcontribs) at 12:24 on 5 September 2010

Newbie 1st time @ gate, not getting to Oblivion[edit]

So the first time I approached the gate I just went right through it and got right to the city gates. Killed a few daedra, got into the chapel, talked to Martin, established the storyline, went back out, talked to Savlian. Everything I find suggests I should have gone *around* the gate because going through it should get me to Oblivion. I can go back and forth through the fiery gate and I just get to the city gates. Lots of Daedra around but how do I get to Oblivion? Apologies if this is really, really braindead. Alphasong 14:03, 19 September 2010‎

OP here.Yes INDEED this was braindead newbie. Need to activate the bloody thing with the spacebar and not just run through it. Hope this helps someone else though. Perhaps could be included in some description of Oblivion gates?Alphasong 14:10, 19 September 2010‎

Kvatch gate and Bruma gate[edit]

How come when you close the bruma gate the guardsman that died end up there lieing on the ground dead but in Kvatch if illend vontus dies he doesnt appear and niether does menien goneld is there a way to save menien goneld? — Unsigned comment by Jamz slack (talkcontribs) at 00:17 on 17 December 2010‎

This is a tricky question, and this is the answer: in fact, Vonius appears for the first time in the game inside the Oblivion plane, and would not even respawn automatically out of it, if it wasn't for a dedicated sigilstone script (when you ask him to follow you). He respawns at the KvatchGateRespawnMark (if he's still alive). As for Goneld, I'm sure he's fine, don't worry. — Unsigned comment by 79.56.228.254 (talk) at 10:50 on 25 July 2013‎

bug[edit]

when i closed the gate i talked to the guy. when we went to the castle matious fell into the moat and went missing, now martin has gone missing and i cant complete either of the quests. — Unsigned comment by 68.1.147.172 (talk) at 00:33 on 26 May 2011‎

Ilend Vonius's friends[edit]

i just went to the blood feast and opened the war gates leading back to the oblivion gate for the sole purpose of looting illends friends you can see behind the gate, when i got to them i saw that you got a search option but they didnt have names, im wondering if this is xbox only? (From Fear to Eternity- Eddie The Head 13:46, 22 August 2011 (UTC))

It's PC too; I just checked it in the CS. Obviously the devs weren't expecting you to get up close to them - in fact, I never even noticed them before. Their base IDs are KvatchFallenGuard 01 through 03. --Legoless 13:59, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Savlian decides not to go to the chapel[edit]

After the part where you take back the main area and head into the chapel, the game tells you to talk to Savlian about what to do next. When I talk to him, he says to head to the chapel with him, but when I do, he walks halfway to it, and then turns back and walks to his starting area behind the barricades outside the city. I try and enter the chapel myself, but the game refuses to let me in. Is there any way to fix this? — Unsigned comment by 97.124.22.76 (talk) at 00:38 on 29 May 2012

Usually weird things like these can be fixed reloading a previous savegame. I had a similar issue recently: after cleaning the area outside the chapel Savlian Matius had the voice dialogue but without lip movement, and once inside he didn't start the dialogue with Tierra. Can't say if this is a mod issue or it could happen in vanilla Oblivion too. I had a companion with me, along with the valuable friend Erthor. — Unsigned comment by 79.56.228.254 (talk) at 11:03 on 25 July 2013

Taking stuff in the chapel = stealing[edit]

It might be worth mentioning that taking stuff from the barrels inside the chapel, will be considered stealing, and will also lower the disposition with the survivors at the camp? AngryNord (talk) 20:16, 11 September 2013 (GMT)

Glitch[edit]

I am at stage 10 where it says I need to go into the Oblivion Gate and figure out how to close it. When i speak with Matius he says there is nothing he can do but hold the gate until it is closed. I spoke to Inian and Martin and they wouldnt leave. Then the game glitched and everyone stormed out of the locked Chapel door. I went back to Matius and still the same response. Now when i go back to the Chapel no one is there except the female guard and a few civilians. It is essentially stuck. I dont want to go back far enough in my saves because I will loose a TON of stuff. How do I fix this?

71.33.135.248 07:20, 17 January 2014 (GMT)Ana

Did you use the Console to activate another quest from the main quest line? It may have caused error's with scripted, as I have learnd through testing, I had this same bug when I used the second temple door inside the temple of the one to go to beat the last quest. Dunehelm (talk) 21:54, 10 February 2014 (GMT)

Dremora Scout[edit]

Has anyone else ever seen the dead scout alive and attacking the other daedra with his bow? or is this listed on the Dremora page. I think this glitch may have to due with the interior of the gate respawning(if it does) if you dont enter it after finding it at Kvatch. but im not 100% sure. I'd look into it myself but we dont have the CS due to computer memory issue's. Dunehelm (talk) 21:51, 10 February 2014 (GMT)

Suggested move[edit]

Does this even belong on this page?: Detours in OblivionThe previous section described the most direct route through the Kvatch Oblivion World. However, exploring a bit more thoroughly can yield some additional treasure.

At the southwest corner of the island is a smaller tower called the Blood Well. At the top of that tower you will find the switch that opens the main war gate (and you will also find a blood fountain). Oddly enough, the switch does not open the war gate immediately adjacent to the Blood Well, but only the war gates back near the Oblivion Gate, for example if you need to resupply or if you need to take back some of the loot you have gathered so far.

At the north side of the island is the entrance to the Sump of Misery, which is a cave with a good amount of loot. The cave itself contains four fleshy pods. It also leads to the Desolate Well, which is the otherwise inaccessible tower at the north end of the island. The top of the Desolate Well will reward you with two of the Punished (loot containers), and a blood fountain.

Inside the main tower, the Corridors of Dark Salvation provide access to a couple more small bonus areas. The southern locked door leads to a small balcony containing two of the Punished. Following the passage from the northern locked door all the way to the end leads to another narrow bridge that crosses to the final tower, Meat Harbor. At the bottom of that tower you will find two more of the Punished. There are plenty of Oblivion plants found in this area. You can harvest at least 121 Bloodgrass, 35 Harrada, and 37 Spiddal Sticks.

I think this would be better off on the Kvatch oblvion world rather then the quest page. Dunehelm (talk) 21:01, 12 February 2014 (GMT)

I completely agree. The problem is that there is no article for the Kvatch Oblivion World. I sandboxed it here but never made any progress. —Legoless (talk) 21:39, 12 February 2014 (GMT)
1: That was one fast reply given that I wrote that a few min ago, and 2: I remember the Kvatch oblivion world having a page unless someone removed it. Perhaps we could work together on it? Dunehelm (talk) 21:56, 12 February 2014 (GMT)
Oh wait its pretty much finished nevermind. — Unsigned comment by Dunehelm (talkcontribs) at 21:58 on 12 February 2014‎

Bug: Chapel not opening[edit]

When I get the gate closed and the inside of kvatch cleared, I can click on the door to the chapel, but it refuses to open. I know I have done it right. PLEASE HELP!!! I can't get any further until this is solved. — Unsigned comment by 68.235.140.157 (talk) at 01:21 on 19 February 2014

Possible Bug: Gaining Infamy for no reason[edit]

This has been marked as a question that needs to be answered.

I just beat the Knights of Nine quests then started on the main quests, as I travel up the Blood Feast Tower I gain infamy at random for no reason. I travel and sometimes at random it gives me 2 infamy when I enter a doorway, other times it's when I kill one of the demon guys. I sent back the only soldier I found so I'm definitely not attacking him. I'm not sure what I'm suppose to do to prevent this, I don't want to have to do the whole pilgrimage all over again. I've done all the other side quests, including the faction quests. All I have left to do is shivering isles and the main quests. As such I don't think I'd have to gain any infamy for the rest of the game. --AB— Unsigned comment by 74.129.134.195 (talk) at 07:05 on 16 August 2014

Pacifist method[edit]

I'm attempting a pacifist run through Oblivion, and was able to successfully complete this quest without killing anything.

Before you enter the gate, simply let the Kvatch guards clear out the daedra for you. (because you need them to kill the Daedra inside Kvatch later, it's useful to try to keep them all alive and heal them up once the initial daedra are gone) Inside the gate, it's fairly easy to sneak past all of the daedra aside from the Sigil Keeper, who has to die for you to get the key (you can't pickpocket it). I was able to lure him into falling off the ramp so the fall damage would kill him. (through a judicious mixture of nudging and Paralysis spells) Alternately, if you could keep him alive long enough, you could bring Ilend along.

Once you close the gate, let guards take out the daedra and you're good to go. Savlian is essential and should be able to kill them by himself eventually, but if any guards are left, they'll come along on Oblivion:The Battle for Castle Kvatch, so it's useful to keep them alive.
