Rumors-Are they true?[edit]

Is there anything wrong with Edgar's spells? i bought a Detect Life from him, and it was not the same as others, but his feather spell seemed to work fine. Dylnuge 20:37, 9 November 2006 (EST)

Edgar's spells are all identical to those that you would purchase from any other merchant. --NepheleTalk 11:27, 9 May 2007 (EDT)

Merchandise?[edit]

Edgar doesn't seem to want to buy or sell any merchandise: the barter icon does not appear in his dialogue menu, just the persuade icon and the spell icon. I can't see a reason why not, though. He has gold and a chest of scrolls to sell, the magic supplies box is checked in his AI. And if he won't barter, then it's impossible to buy the Veil of the Seer from him. Can anyone figure out why he won't sell items and whether it's possible to fix it? --NepheleTalk 11:27, 9 May 2007 (EDT)

I have the same problem (mercentile skill= 100, Xbox 360 --Robert Smith 08:12, 17 May 2007 (EDT)
I have the same prob as well on the PS3 version. im going around investing in all the shops and im going to be missing one. it wont let me invest in him probably because it wont let me buy from him.Whitey138 05:09, 11 August 2007 (GMT)
I was having this same issue on Xbox360 and PC. After playing around in the editor, and looking at the construction set website, it looks like "Magic Items" does not flag any items to be sold. Since Edgar doesn't think he has anything to sell he won't offer the barter option even if your mercantile skill is high enough to buy other items. From what I can guess the developers put the Magic Items option into the AI to allow NPCs to sell magic versions of items they normally would not sell (like scrolls, enchanted clothes, weapons and armor). It looks like they never got it working, which is why many NPCs with the Magic Items flag won't sell you their magic items until you get your mercantile skill high enough to see all items (I may be wrong about this, so please correct me if anyone knows better). Unfortunately this is a problem with Edgar since it is the only option he has. Scrolls are considered Books, and Soul Gems are considered Miscellaneous, both of which he probably should sell (though the name of the shop is Discount Spells). This is fixed on the Unofficial Patch, but Xbox360 and PS3 users are SOL. You won't be able to invest in his shop because Edgar is of the class "MerchEnchanter" which is not one of the classes that meet the conditions of the invest topic. --Shalley303 01:48, 17 February 2008 (EST)

Is he in the mages guild?[edit]

Ive seen him in the arcane univercity many times. Not just the first area but in the main part through the gates. — Unsigned comment by Joshua1302 (talkcontribs) at 07:57 on 10 July 2007‎

No, he's not a member of the Mages Guild. His only faction is the IC citizen's faction. --Saruuk 04:04, 10 July 2007 (EDT)

Late opening hours[edit]

Concerning Edgar's late opening hours (up till 12am, instead of 8pm). This should only happen on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On the other days he will have an activity between 8pm and 12am. He wanders to the Arcane University at Tuesdays and Thursdays, visits The King and Queen Tavern at Saturday and the Temple at Sunday.

If none of that applies, he falls back to the lowest priority schedule, which happens to be his shop serving schedule. I think that's the reason for the late opening hours Krusty noticed. --Timenn-<talk> 20:46, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

No investing bug[edit]

Why is the fact that you can not invest in his store called a bug? I think it is pretty logical you can not invest in a store where you can not sell anything. Same problem with Calindil and Ungarion. — Unsigned comment by 83.81.45.132 (talk) at 10:54 on 27 September 2010

In Edgar's case, it's a bug that you can't buy or sell anything with him, and by extension, it's therefore a bug upon a bug that you can't invest. I'm not sure what you mean about Calindil and Ungarion, though. As far as I know, you can buy and sell normally with them, so the Invest option should have been there. Possible easter Egg[edit]

Isn't his name a possible reference to the character named Vautrin from Balzac's novel "Father Goriot" — Unsigned comment by 93.220.2.82 (talk) at 21:32 on 11 January 2013

You should propose the idea here. However, there needs to be more than just a similar name for it to be an Egg, so if a name is all you have, then no, it is not a reference. Vely►t►e 00:49, 12 January 2013 (GMT)
