Assassin?

The article says "She once was a assassin and she killed a person 300 yards away with a single arrow." Is this confirmed in the game, or is it an unsubstantiated guess? --Gaebrial 06:44, 3 September 2007 (EDT)

Yes she was once an assassin in Skyrim, but fled Skyrim with Regner when they got in trouble with the law.--Willyhead 07:59, 3 September 2007 (EDT)

There's actually 2 ways you can obtain this information. The first is a rumor you may hear from townsfolk:

"I've heard Edla Dark-Heart was once an assassin!"

Alternatively, you may hear two NPCs have the following conversation:

"I don't know about her past. All I know is that she's really good with a bow. I wouldn't mind learning a bit from her."

"I've heard a number of stories, none of them good. I understand she might have been a hired assassin."

"I'm not surprised, with the way she handles a bow."

"Apparently, she was wanted in Skyrim for murder. Shot a man dead from over 300 yards. Hard to believe."

Horse murdering

Still trying to determine exactly what makes Edla go after horses. I had thought it was specifically because they belong to the "Prey" faction, but purchased horses do not belong to this faction, and at least one user reports a purchased Black Horse being attacked. (I've checked the Horse Armor plugin as well - none of the armored horses are considered "Prey", with the exception of Shadowmere and Prior Maborel's Horse, both of which are Prey with or without armor.) All purchased (not given) horses are in the "HorsePC" faction and no others. Other horses which should be immune to this are the Imperial Legion Horses, which are only in the Imperial Legion faction, and the Black Courier horses, which are in the "ImperialLegionFriend" faction. Also, the Unicorn is in its own faction, but it's more likely the Unicorn would attack her than the other way around, due to its own curious behaviors. --TheRealLurlock ^Talk 14:18, 14 September 2007 (EDT)

If I'm reading the CS correctly, her AI package (EdlaDarkHeartWeekendArchery) tells her to use her ranged weapon against any valid target. She's a member of BrumaFaction though, which has a +50 modifier to Prey, so she shouldn't be going after prey animals. --Gaebrial 03:20, 15 September 2007 (EDT)

Exactly. That is possibly why she is going after other horses. If somebody could wander up to Bruma on a weekend with either the Prior's horse or Shadowmere, and see whether she attacks them, then buy a horse from the stables at Bruma, and see if she attacks that, this might answer the question. --Gaebrial 03:31, 15 September 2007 (EDT)

I updated the main page with the cause. She has a package to retrieve arrows during her target practice. If the player's horse (or any other horse) has been shot by a bandit, it may have an arrow in its inventory. Since it's not an NPC there are no AI responsibility rules applied, so she tries to get it from the horse (of course, the horse has to be dead for this to happen!) Kivan 21:01, 22 May 2008 (EDT)

Weird Effects from Attacking Horses

Okay, I'm playing through the Main Quest again, making saves at important points so I can go back and play them later if I want to. Anyway. I just got done with the Battle of Bruma, Great Gate and all, and as I was walking back with all the guards, I ran into Edla. I'd never seen her before, so I initiated a conversation. She told me about how it was cold or something, and said that Regner didn't like it. Anyway, a few minutes later I heard some yelling around the stable and decided to check it out.

I ran into Edla emptying her quiver into the unfortunate body of My White Horse. Not only that, she also was fighting off half of the Bruma guard, who apparently didn't take kindly to her shooting my horse (thanks, guys). I made a quicksave here, because the situation was so freaking weird I wanted to save it forever. Edla failed to kill my horse (Anvil's white horses are very hardy) but the guard did not fail to kill her. In fact, she was shot up to the point where she fled into the stable house, fled back out and was cut down on the doorstep. I loaded the quicksave to see if the situation would play out similarly. It did, only the second time she was shot in the back as she attempted to flee. Made for quite a tragic and shocking moment, honestly. I'm always a little shocked whenever I see the guard kill civilians. I got about thirty screenshots from this. If anybody's interested, I'll be glad to upload some of them to the Wiki, or just link to my Photobucket account or something. See the discussion under the previous heading - any horses that aren't in the 'Prey' faction are valid targets. This means that unless you are riding Shadowmere or Prior Maborel's horse, she will attack it.--Gaebrial 05:10, 12 November 2007 (EST)

She just finished attacking my horse, Prior Maborel's horse. I, along with the Bruman guard, shot her dead before she could pick the horse off.

Edla's Training

Perhaps Edla can be used in the Defense of Bruma quest? If she goes training at the battlefield, then if you time the event correctly, she sould be able to help. Has anyone tried this? A better way to get people is to obtain the staff of worms before hand and bring a lot of summon scrolls and just summon creatures and revive dead allies and enemies alike. --SneakyPenguin77 (also my Gamertag) 21:42, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Edla can't be used. There is a special check done before she can start her training package that checks if this quest is running. If it is running she will not practice her archery. --Timenn-<talk> 14:40, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Then why does the the page say: If you catch her outside the city, beware. On the weekends (10am-6pm) she goes for target practice in the battlefield where The Defense of Bruma battle takes place? Don't see why the beware thing needs to be there if she doesn't go there the only time it is dangerous.

Because the page isn't warning you to beware of her during the Defense of Bruma, it's warning you to beware of her every other day. IWon'tFightUndead 20:29, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Removed non-bug from page

I have removed the alleged bug:

* Edla’s hunting trip causes additional problems due to the order of the packages. The EdlaDarkHeartCollectArrows package was accidentally put before the WeekendArchery package, causing her to look for arrows all day (without offering services) unless she finds a target. It is also set to "Find" which means she will keep looking for arrows until she finds a target or her default Homeowner package kicks in; both oddities will affect her service times and limit them effectively.

Not only is this not entirely correct, I don't think it's a bug. What Edla will do is, on weekends, head out at 10am to practice her archery. Then starting at 11am, she will look around for steel arrows if she has less than 13 in her inventory. This being the case, she will continue to look for steel arrows until she has found 30, at which point she will return to her archery practice.

What these packages are doing is getting her to fire her arrows, then go around and pick them up again. That's why CollectArrows is above WeekendArchery - it's not a mistake. If there is a 'bug' here, it is simply that she doesn't offer services while picking up her arrows. --Gaebrial 13:21, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
