Improving Your Follower's Armor[edit]

Posted by booyah_boy on behalf of Noran the Axe (moved from article):

- exactly how do you to this? and why is a broken piece of armor useful to your ally's?
Insofar as I am aware (never having done so myself), you will need to cast a Bound ___ spell, then repair the item with a repair hammer (the armor will, naturally, have to incur damage first, thus the tip to use a disintegrate armor spell). You must then wait for the spell to wear off, when you will find yourself possessed of a weightless piece of daedric armor. That is how it is done.
As regards your second question: it would no longer be broken. Any damage to the armor is fixed with the repair hammer (also making it permanent). As a whole piece of daedric armor it is invaluable to your follower, greatly boosting their armor rating once given to them (as they will equip it). You needn't do so, as you may continue wearing the armor yourself, however, the tip is merely here in order to grant players a means of preserving their follower's lives (allowing them to withstand damage always being a step in the right direction).
I hope that helps. -- Booyah boy 10:00, 12 September 2006 (EDT)

Map discrepencies?[edit]

Are there different versions of the map? Reading some of the directions in the shortcuts section didn't make any sense according to the paper map that came with my game. For example, it mentions the Yellow Road going from Chorrol to Bruma, and on my map, the Yellow Road runs south-east from the Imperial City down to Leyawiin, nowhere near Chorrol or Bruma. The road between Chorrol and Bruma is called the Orange Road on my map. Also, the shortcut from the Imperial City to Cheydinhal mentions the Black Road, but that road goes west from the city, towards Chorrol, not east. It's the Blue Road that goes to Cheydinhal. Just wondering if these are errors on the part of the poster, inconsistancies between the paper map and the actual game, or between PC and XBox, whatever. -- TheRealLurlock 00:24, 9 May 2006 (EDT)

Sorry, I messed up, citing some names from memory. I remembered the color, but... Orange is not quite Yellow. :) Also been using the map with "names of all places" and ther names obscured parts of the map, it was The Bl[obscured] Road.

Reorganization[edit]

I'm on the road right now, so I've been tinkering with pages that I can edit without actually having access to Oblivion. I noticed that the tips page is fairly chaotic, so thought I'd try my hand at cleaning it up. For those wondering what suddenly happened to a section, I'll try to keep track of what I'm doing here:

  • Creating a new page specifically on how to get around in the game. There were a fair number of tips on this subject, and figured they should all be assembled in one page.--Nephele 20:17, 16 June 2006 (EDT)
  • Moving details of tips to more appropriate pages. For example, moving Human Freight Train spell to Spell Making page; 100% Chameleon and Light to Sneak.--Nephele 21:07, 16 June 2006 (EDT)
  • Moving Keeping a Weapon undamaged and Free Recharges to Glitches page, and merging into section on Unlimited Free Recharges and Weapon Repairs. --Nephele 00:27, 18 June 2006 (EDT)
  • Moving Another Way to Recharge Items (not yet confirmed) to Glitches page (Book with False Information about Recharging Items), following TheRealLurlock's suggestion. I tried to paraphrase the various comments that have been added over the last day to provide a summary of the glitch -- but please edit if anything I've stated is incorrect.--Nephele 17:04, 18 June 2006 (EDT)

I moved something here that I found to be hoplessly first-person. Please feel free to correct this Pappasmurf 17:13, 1 March 2007 (EST)

> I found myself Alt+Tabbing out of the game to look at maps and item codes all the time, so I added a few pages to my website for viewing on my PSP. If you have a PSP and wireless access point (or internet-enabled mobile) try pointing your PSP browser here for the item codes and here for the maps. The item codes were taken from this website and I cut the complete map at The Avid Alchemists' Alcove into smaller sections that the PSP can handle.

Should the tips linking to other pages be removed? I could see why the welkyld stone link might stay up, but i don't think people are going to come to this page if they want to kill Umbra. 67.142.130.18 19:35, 3 March 2007 (EST)

I see the purpose of the page as being a place to let readers know about aspects of the game that they might otherwise overlook. The fact that you can kill Umbra to obtain one of the most powerful swords in the game even as a level 1 character is a pretty useful tip, so that's why the link is here. The Tips page does need a lot of work to be more generally useful and less redundant, but I don't think that should involve deleting links to other pages; instead, the reasons why the links are valuable tips need to be clarified. IMHO. --Nephele 02:24, 10 March 2007 (EST)

tone template[edit]

I feel like this page should be marked for having an informal tone, but I just signed up and am a wiki newbie so I'm loath to overstep my bounds. Would it ruffle feathers to mark this page for tone?

Livingdocument, 23:45 4/19/07

It's already marked for cleanup, so we're well aware that it's not up to the site's quality standards. Unfortunately, this is one of those pages that tends to attract a lot of poor-quality edits, much like Oblivion:Glitches, Oblivion:Gripes, Oblivion:Easter Eggs etc. People just add stuff without checking what's already there, or bothering to format things nicely, or any of that. Us diligent editors occasionally try and wrangle these pages into some semblance of order, but it rarely lasts long, and usually I just ignore edits to these pages unless they're clear-cut cases of vandalism or something. If you want to spend some time cleaning it up, by all means do so. Any help is always welcome. --TheRealLurlock Talk 00:51, 20 April 2007 (EDT)

autosaves[edit]

One thing I wanted to confirm that I did not pay close enough attention to earlier in gameplay was that autosaves function just like quicksaves in that subsequent autosaves overwrite each other. I lost some game play recently when I carelessly assumed that the old autosave would still be there. I guess the rule of thumb for anyone new to the game needs to be, if you don't want it overwritten, "manual or console save".

Another thing. console saves, with the text output file, seem to be a fair bit quicker than GUI saves. Is that as it should be? I am not running the latest version but it has been running in a fairly stable fashion for me so far with only one or two exceptions. Is having lots of accumulated saves supposed to really slow GUI saves down that much?

Grab[edit]

What does the Grab feature do (mapped to Z in the PC version)? I can't find a good expanation. Space picks up objects, and I tried using it in combat, thinking it was a way to grappel, but that didn't work. I noticed on this page it is mentioned for redecorating.

  1. How do I "grab"?
  2. When would I want to?

--Sbrockway 20:09, 9 August 2007 (EDT)

Granted, it is not particularly useful, there are still some practical applications for grabbing stuff, including:
  • Quests. One quest in particular in Shivering Isles requires you to grab an object.
  • Encumbered. Simply drop the heaviest item in your inventory and use grab to carry it instead.
  • Rearranging objects. Mostly for RP purposes, such as redecorating your (or someone else's) home.
  • Tossing away disarmed weapons. When you disarm someone of a 90 pound warhammer, it can be more feasible to simply toss it in the lake rather than pick it up.
  • Cleaning the place up. Sometimes you may need to move objects out of the way, such as entering J'Ghasta's basement.
--Saruuk 00:17, 10 August 2007 (EDT)
I found what I was missing. You have to push and hold the grab key. I was trying to use it as a toggle. I added a section to the article. --Sbrockway 21:07, 18 August 2007 (EDT)

Alt-Tab on Vista[edit]

I can alt-tab out of Oblivion on Vista (32bit) fine, maybe the person who tried this didn't have any other task bar applications running along side it? Two things I will note is that on Vista if you alt-tab while on the main menu the game will crash on restore and it seems in my experience that the chance of the game becoming unresponsive after a restore at least on Vista are heightened depending on if you have alt tabbed immediately after a save without returning to the game first --Cam 03:44, 9 September 2007 (EDT)

Max Year[edit]

(Question moved from article page)

I'm not sure if this is a FAQ but i cant find anywhere else to put it anyway : what is the max year on Oblivion and dose it ever change to the 4th era? --Marleysexton 11:47, 10 January 2008 (EST)

Great minds think alike, Gaebrial - I'd already put it on UESPWiki:Reference_Desk#Max_Year. –RpehTCE 06:34, 10 January 2008 (EST)

two-handed in one hand?[edit]

I recall hearing somewhere that's possible to use a normally two-handed weapon in one hand, like through a glitch or something. Is this true? --66.29.169.1 12:07, 29 March 2009 (EDT)

No, it isn't. The only way to wield a two-handed weapon in one hand is through a mod of some sort and although I can remember numerous requests for such a mod, I don't think one has been made. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 12:11, 29 March 2009 (EDT)
Maybe you're thinking of the Vampirism bug (second from the bottom as of this posting)? --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 20:56, 2 April 2009 (EDT)

Maximun character level[edit]

I added this question because when I started this game I expected a universal maximun level limit like there is in Fallout 3. In fact, I started really playing this game after I had played Fallout 3 for some time. I expect that becuause they used the same engine they would have the same properties, such as a level limit.

It never occured to me that the level limit was variable and it would depend upon my character creation.

Many other role playing games also have a universal maximun so I expect many other new palyers would have the same question.

New oblivion Dlc ideas![edit]

I think bethesda should not stop making downloadable content. Who has any ideas for oblivion dlc. I think there should be one when for once you are invited to a riverview party and someone ruins it and you have to obtain the stolen items and turn the thief in. Another idea is that the Adoring fan would like to see his parents and needs to travel to Valenwood to meet them.(More additional quests and the adoring fan and his family are essential. a wee bit like the shivering isles.) So what are your ideas? — Unsigned comment by Hazman258 (talkcontribs) on 28 November 2009

Bethesda has already stated that they are done with DLC. And you might have a better time at Tes4Mod:Mod Ideas. –Elliot talk 05:52, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

But I have the Xbox 360 version of the game. Hazman258

Armor/Weapon rewards that are determined by higher Light/Heavy Armor and Blade/Blunt skill[edit]

Is there somewhere that says which quest rewards are determined this way? I prefer Light Armor and Blade weapons. Therefore, I have them one level higher than the alternate. But, it would be nice to know when I can finish leveling up. — Unsigned comment by 71.181.163.121 (talk)

As far as I know the only two quests are Symbols of OfficeSI and The Shrine of the CrusaderKotN, or at least the only two that are really important. --Wizy (Talk/Contribs) 09:33, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
