Question[edit]

With a large Fortify Magicka spell, is it possible to create a custom spell that you had the level for but not the Magicka? Zander 09:15, 15 October 2008 (EDT)

I suppose you could. But depending on the spell you were trying to make, you'd need a Fortify Magicka spell that was pretty big, and would therefore take up a lot of Magicka before actually giving you more. IMO, Fortify Magicka enchantments (especially with Transcendent Sigil Stones) would be infinitely more useful than a spell that would likely need at least Journeyman or Expert Restoration. --Darkle ~ Talk 08:34, 17 October 2008 (EDT)

Enchanting[edit]

Can you enchant with Fortify Magicka? Helper Unknown 20:50, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

If you mean custom enchantments, yes that's possible. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 20:56, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
If that is true, then why does it say to use trancendent sigil stones instead of enchanting which would make more magicka, but use money. Helper Unknown 20:26, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Because transcendent stones provide a 50 pt. fortify magicka enchantment, while a homemade enchantment using a Grand Soul only provides 24 pt. Self made fortify magicka is actually beaten by Latent Sigil stones which are available from levels 9-12, long before creatures with Grand Souls become common. Possible bug?[edit]

Creating a custom spell with 3pts of Fortify Magicka on self (the lowest possible) plus a destruction spell on touch seems to act as though the effect had been cast on the player, but the player doesn't take damage, i.e., Fortify magicka on self for 120 seconds + 3pts of fire damage for 1 second on touch causes the pc to walk around on fire for 120 seconds, without taking damage. The effect works well with fire damage, but other destruction effects, such as frost or shock, seem to fade away rather quickly.--174.103.62.163 03:06, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

This has been documented in other places on the wiki before. I can't remember or seem to find where, but it's a harmless graphical glitch. --Darkle ~ Talk 03:40, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Yes, Darkle is right. It is on the Oblivion: Useful Spells page, and the title of the section is "Odd Little Trick (Auras)". Note that, to make it actually work, the Fortify Magicka spell must have the highest magnitude (calculate this of the base costs of the spells). For instance, create a spell with Fire Damage 3 points for 1 second on Touch, Fortify Magicka 10 points for 10 seconds on Self. This will result in a "Fire Aura" for 10 seconds glitch. But if you create a custom spell like this: full set Bound Armor and a Bound Sword for 30 seconds, Fire Damage 3 points for 1 seconds on Touch, and the Fortify Magicka is set to just 3 points for 10 seconds on Self, you will get a short "Fire Aura" glitch animation, but it will disappear in a few seconds. Additionally, only the duration of the Fortify Magicka spell counts for the duration of the "Fire Aura". It's a fun little thing to use, though... I like to use a custom Frost Damage / Fortify Magicka / Water Walking spell for water walking purposes, as a dedicated Frost Mage :). It's like the character's body freezes the water or something. It is for sheer fun only, and does not have any other effects (your character won't be damaged), of course.--Aran Mafre 16:55, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
