Magic animation stuck on screen.

On my save on the PS3 version, there is a strange glitch that happens randomly to my nord character: When I cast a spell on myself (heal, detect life, fortify etc), the on screen effect/animation that surrounds that character while casting stays in my view and wont disappear. This means I get lots of coloured blobs stuck on my first person view obscuring my vision. Saving and reloading does not fix this, it stays on the screen no matter what. The only option is to reload an old save. I have no idea what causes this graphical glitch to happen and therefor i have no idea how to avoid it. Please can someone advise? 81.135.46.38 23:31, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

- I had this problem on the Xbox 360. It's a notorious game wrecking glitch and for those on consoles it is unfortunately, irreparable. There are a couple of programs written for the PC version that take care of this: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5127 (just one of them). 174.26.82.176 21:04, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Extra defense?

Ok, I was being my Nord (on the ps3 GOTY) and he fights hand to hand and i clicked on a shield with 7% frost resistance and it equipted it and for some reason it added the 7% frost resistance onto my actual defense. Its strange because he doesnt use weapons. Has this happened to anyone else? --Sencilia 08:51, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Even when your not able to block with shields, the enchantments still apply Mikeyboy512 18:12, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
No, I mean the 7% FROST RESISTANCE was added to my actual defense, with it unequipted, my defense is at 21, but with it eqipted (without weapon) it goes up to 28. --203.14.52.46 00:28, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
You sure it's Resist Frost and not Frost Shield?--Darkheart 03:16, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
I have the Shield of frost and it give me 7% frost resistance and only 4 defense (its a light armour) and Gary (my male nord) fights hand to hand and without the shield his defense (with the shield icon) is at 21 (with steel armour w/o helm) but when i equipt the shield (still with no weapon) it adds his defense to 28. --Sencilia 10:25, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
There are no shields with a resist frost enchantment, so your shield must have had a frost shield effect. Mikeyboy512's comment is correct. Even when you can't use a shield (for example, when fighting hand-to-hand), its enchantment still goes when you have it equipped. So, this shield you are using gives you 7% frost resistance and adds 7% to your defense rating. That's what frost shield means. If you would be using the shield, its own defense rating would apply to, giving you a total of (7 + 4) = 11% extra defense. — Unsigned comment by Wolok gro-Barok (talkcontribs) at 14:32 on 20 October 2009 (UTC)
Just to confirm the others' observations, I looked up "Shield of Frost" in the Construction Set, and it does indeed have a Frost Shield effect and not a Resist Frost effect, so that's why you're getting the extra 7 defence. —Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 21:23, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Unlimited stolen (or not stolen, your choice) weapons (possibly enchanted)

Ok, first, you need to have a spell/scroll that summons a monster with an item, second, a way of disentegrating an opponents weapon, third, you need to be inside your house in bravil. First, summon the monster, Second, disentegrate his weapon, third, either wait for summon to finish, or destroy summoned creature, fourth notice the stolen icon on the weapon.

I used undead champion scrolls with a ruin staff, if you repeat this process many times, eventually you will get an unenchated glass claymore from the undead champion (so you can put you own custom enchantment :D)

if you dont want a stolen weapon, simply walk outside the house.

  • note that when you enter your house in bravil the symbol for it is "tresspassing" - possible link??
  • also note that I was using the PS3 version GOTY

Extremely Useful Conjuration Glitch

Never seen anyone mention this. Not sure if this is technically an actual glitch, although it certainly seems to prevent the game from behaving properly, it's repeatable, and it can be very exploitable. Conjure a creature from Oblivion (I used a Skeleton, cheapest Magicka cost) and make it fall into some deep water by standing at the edge of the water. The pools in the Imperial City Market District are perfect for this. Remember, you can't conjure while in water, so stand above it! Now, jump into the water and attack the Skeleton. Even if you attack it more than three times it won't respond to you! It will simply stand still and play out its little animations (looking around, screeching etc). You can keep hitting and hitting it until it dies and there will be absolutely no threat to you! The game doesn't seem to register the fact that an NPC should have become hostile after three hits, as you can still use repair hammers and fast travel at any point after attacking it. If you increase the difficulty to maximum, you can hit it 6x as much to get maximum experience from it. I have found this method to be extremely useful and would go so far as to say that it is the fastest and most efficient way to manually train Blade, Blunt, Hand-to-Hand, Destruction (use weak touch spells like Shocking Touch) and Armorer (as you can repair your weapon after every single hit). Your Athletics may also increase as you'll be swimming. Attacking the creature while you stand out of water, or if you leave the water after hitting it three times, will provoke it and it will follow you (simply conjure a new one to quickly eliminate it). I have found this to be an invaluable source of experience and it has helped me to Efficient Level my way into 100 for many stats. Note: I'm using PS3 GOTY edition. Hope it works for you, it's an amazing glitch.

It's not a glitch. Conjured creatures will never attack you, whether you hit them once or 70,000 times. 58.169.236.212 08:10, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Wrong, any friendly NPC will retaliate if you hit it 4 times. — Unsigned comment by 90.207.73.55 (talk) at 16.20 on 22 October 2009

Hardly seems to be a glitch, but may be of use to players if mentioned on the Skills Page, as one of the ways to artificially train skills. Summoned creatures normally become hostile after three hits, so it may work, but we'll need confirmation before we add it anywhere else. --Darkheart 01:53, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

The best way to determine if it is a proper glitch is for someone with a PC version to have a look at what's going on in the game code. Maybe it is a glitch since normally it will fight back but it won't, or maybe summoned creatures can't react while standing in water by design. Good idea to add it to that page. — Unsigned comment by 90.207.73.55 (talk) at 16.20 on 22 October 2009

can non swimming creatures even attack underwater, if not this would explain why this is happening32.143.30.157 11:40, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

non-swimming creaures can attack underwater-replying to whoever posted the question

I acctualy have the pc version of this game, and i noticed this glitch without this "guide" . i summoned zombie, i pushed it to water. after three times, it always attacked me. in the water, it standed still.

I have the ps3 GOTY version, I put the difficulty on maximum grabbed my unenchanted iron dagger and summoned the zombie in the imperial city in the place where you can get sacred lotuses and attacked the zombie untill it died. afterwords it gave me an ok amount of xp, nearly 1/3 of the bar. btw, why would anyone use glitches with the pc when all they have to do is open console? Ultimate Destruction Leveling Guide/Glitch

This Glitch I have kept a secret and I am now letting everyone know

For this glitch to work you must be able to create spells (Arcane University), have several scrolls of one type (Do not use to many or your game will freeze completely), have 1 Paint Brush, and start quest 'Whom Gods Annoy'

First thing you are going to want to do is create a spell like this:

Shock Damage
 Target
 -Magnitude: 3
 -Area: 36
 -Duration: 1

Next start the quest 'Whom Gods Annoy' in Leyawiin. Once you have the staff and the scamps are following you, we can begin the glitch.

Go some place safe where there is no npc's around for you to hit and kill. Use the scrolls to duplicate the paintbrushes (Double click the scrolls, then drop the paintbrush) Once this is done you should notice that there are a bunch of floating paintbrushes sharing the same spot. Next click the spell that you made earlier, step back from the paintbrushes slightly, aim slightly above the paintbrushes. Cast your spell, if done correctly the spell should hit the paintbrushes and your game should freeze for several seconds depending on how many paintbrushes were spawned. Once the game unfreezes, look at your destruction skill and it should have increased by a couple levels. The way this works is the spell hits the 4 scamps, multiplied by the number of paintbrushes. 4x50 = 200 hits = multiple levels :) Enjoy — Unsigned comment by Dmuller29 (talkcontribs) at 19:25 on 23 October 2009

Thank you for posting this glitch, now i can finally master my alteration skill, the only skill i havent mastered :D Mikeyboy512 07:15, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Inventory items hidden when changing gear

Maybe this is a variant of the "Kvatch Cuirass Glitch". I noticed it today and realized that it's also in older savegames: There's like one or more 'shadow' slots for items in the inventory. I add an item from a container to the inventory and it doesn't appear. It might appear when I put on or off some armor pieces or rings. Sometimes the items are initially there and vanish when re-dressing. They're not really gone, but dynamically invisible dependent on what items I put on. ... In retrospect, the first time this (or a variant of this) bug might have occured is when I picked the pocket of the orc trainer in Battlehorn Castle in order to get his zero-damage training weapons. I took multiple training daggers, and when training armorer and repairing them to 125%, sometimes they were regrouped, some vanished (also when put in containers), and eventually all but one dagger became non-stolen. ... Maybe this activity started the whole problem, maybe it happened 'on its own'. But it's frustrating that there seems to be no bugfix/patch. It would be nice to be able to somehow do an 'inventory-taking' to rebuild the item index or whatever the problem is. --217.85.229.247 22:22, 24 October 2009 (UTC) well, repairing the 0 damage items to 125 was probably a bad idea and caused the problem, but as for items not appearing in containers, if you just press <Take All> then you should be able to retireve them. I use and Xbox 360, and my containers almost never show what i want, so i just take everything and put back what i don't want. The fix is a pain, but it works

Glitch After Fort Coldcorn

Hi! I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else... you know the Easter egg quest for the chests and the keys for them... well, after starting up the first chest I get the key and the note, also following the pointing sword... not too far away from the path it leads me on is this cave to my right. Well after a few more feet away from that cave I freeze! I have to start the game over again, and luckily I saved where I was at, so no big loss. Then when I get to the same spot again, it happens the same way, in the same area, though I did try to walk to a different spot.

Has this been checked, or is it that my 360 really has had it? XD Thank you(Cookies... lots and lots of cookies!!! 18:29, 26 October 2009 (UTC))

Too many items glitch

I added a very important glitch for consideration. Please add it to the article as soon as possible. It was driving my mad for days and I restarted my 72 hour character before I tracked down the cause. — Unsigned comment by Piddyx (talkcontribs) on 3 November 2009

If you are referring to containers, that is already covered at the article: here. --Timenn-<talk> 11:23, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
No, this is different. To duplicate this error put over 64 ingredients in a container and save the game. When you do so, you CTD. I haven;t figured out the exact number but it is slightly over 64--Piddyx 08:37, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
I must have put over a thousand ingredients of various types in a container (with some stacks over 300), without encountering one CTD while saving (in the same location). So I suspect this is a machine-related issue, rather than a generic one. --Timenn-<talk> 13:06, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Major game-crashing glitch

Four or five times, I've encountered a bug where the game freezes and crashes. I'm not sure if it is on all systems or just limited to the PS3. It usually happens when I encounter a hostile humanoid enemy. Then a very loud electronic screeching sound happens, and the game freezes. I'm not sure if it's the PS3 laser reading the disc wrong or a problem with the game itself. It only happens with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I figured out that you prevent the game from crashing by immediately pausing it when you hear the screeching sound (it is very distinctive) and then saving the game. Then, you reset the PS3 and re-load it, and it's fine again. Ongar the World-Weary 08:53, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

It sounds like a glitch specific to your system. You may want to check it's hardware or go see a technician if there's a problem with it that can be fixed. --Darkheart 02:08, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Repeated sheathing glitch

I looked around on YouTube and google for this but found nothing. It's pretty simple, you just unsheath your weapon (I only used Umbra but any weapon that can block should work), press the sheath key and before it finishes sheathing, forward dodge. If done correctly, the player should sheath his/her weapon again. This can be chained as much as you want. It has no practical use whatsoever but I thought it was noteworthy. If you guys don't understand it, I uploaded a video to my YouTube channel and I could link to it if you want.

Fort boss easy kill glitch

i was travelling through a fort and found a corner that you can walk through, you can shoot arrows and cast spells at enemies, they will run up to you but cant hit through the wall. i looked in forts that had a room exactly like and they all had that same corner, when you walk in the room theres a bridge, on the bridge theres a pressure pad, if you walk on the pressure pad two spiked logs will hit you. if you find a room like that, as soon as you enter take a left, follow the wall, after you take the left turn the corner you see, face it and walk into it. when i get back on the game ill look at some of the fort names, i know one of the forts rooms is called "hero's hall"

Camera Glitches PC

The Camera on my Oblivion PC GotY is really messed up. I started a new character because the camera was ungodly annoying but it didn't help at all. It hovers about a foot above my right shoulder and 6 inches in front of me. I can't see my character or anything he does like swing a sword or draw his bow. This only happens when i am in 1st person view, when I go to 3rd person view it's fine. I have a bow and when I have the reticule right above the target so I can hit it, the arrow will shoot in the bottom left corner of the screen. I have loaded previous saves and it just keeps doing the same thing to those accounts. Also, when I have a sword drawn, I have to walk for the camera to stay in the right place, if I begin to run it immediately shoots up. Unless I need to become a master 3rd person archer, I'm in desperate need of help. I have also reinstalled the game like 3 times and I have the Oblivion 1.2 Patch along with some unofficial patches. Thank you in advance.

I don't think it is a glitch. Go to the view of the rotating camera for 3rd person. Then use the shield and attack buttons to move towards and away from your camera. I believe this is your problem. Good luck!. –Elliot talk 10:08, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

I found out that when i start a new character, the camera is fine, but as soon as i move the camera it shoots up to the wrong spot once more. Btw the rotating camera didn't work.4.157.68.125 21:14, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

loot bag

I once triggered this in the waterfront but I can't trigger it again. The only thing in the bag was the gray fox wanted poster. When I tried to take it, my game crashed. Why did this happen?

Well one reason may be because Grey Fox wanted posters are not found in bags, well at least on the 360Corevette789 21:49, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Permanent effect from Springheel Jack Boots?

Okay, so i just obtained the Boots Of Springheel Jak but i haven't turned them in yet. According to this page, i can go to jail with them on and keep their effect forever. But it doesn't work; i equip them, punch a guard, then go to jail......but i don't have the 50+ acrobatics and can still equip them. I have already done Through A Nightmare Darkly and Sanguine's shrine so, does this mean i have to hunt for the ring of disrobing? — Unsigned comment by 216.195.19.113 (talk) on 5th December 2009

Permanent effect from the ring that lets you breath under water and walk on water?

Am I the only person who wore it so much that it now has a permanent effect on me? Even when I don't have it on, it's effects are still there. But strange enough, I can put on any 2 rings again and it knows there's nothing there. This is on my Breton save character, I'm a level 32. I found it in The Shivering Isles, it was the quest where we had to find artifacts for some lady. — Unsigned comment by Jackass2009 (talkcontribs) on 7 December 2009

The Scrolls don't seem to have changed. (1st person, I know) I just duped a set of scrolls at 200 and had no issues. On 360 version.--TAO Devil 14:47, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Permanent effects by duplication trouble

New here. Sorry if it's been repeated before. Didn't find anything on it.

XBox 360, original version w/ expansions downloaded and updates.

When using the duplication glitch (now with scrolls), originally it was possible to attain permanent effects with duplicated non-quest items. This is still attainable, but there seems to be an issue. If you replace the (item) with another (item on same area) it cancels the permanent effects.

Example: Equipping a duplicate Cruelty's Heart Amulet (Dark Brotherhood reward amulet) will give the player a permanent effect. When another amulet is later introduced, the effect from the former amulet disappears. This happens with mundane (no effect) (items) as well.

It was originally found a player could stack these effects. Was something changed in an update recently? This was not encountered prior to last night and was wondering if anyone had experienced it themselves.--TAO Devil 14:57, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Are you sure you are doing the glitch in the correct way? To attain a permanent effect you need to have two copies of the same item, then you need to equip one of the items, double click on the scrolls and drop the unequipped item. Once you have done this, both the equiped and unquipped item will be dropped and if you attempt to equip any of the two you will get the message: You cannot equip the enchanted item right now. For what you posted it seems that you only equip one of the duplicated items. --MC S'drassa T2M 15:31, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I am doing exactly that. The player receives the permanent effect without the items being worn. Duped version of the same item and the equipped are dropped, and the char. still retains the effects. However, when another item that would take the place on the body is worn, the effect disappears. You can not stack the effects from 2 (items) if they inhabit the same bodily area. This was not how it was originally.--TAO Devil 16:04, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

And do you get the message? It's seems strange that this happens, I play on the xbox too and this has never happened to me. --MC S'drassa T2M 16:06, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

I originally get the message that "You cannot equip etc...". When another item is worn that corresponds to that area, the effect is lost. Char. has to re-perm. and it only lasts until another (item) is placed on instead.--TAO Devil 16:12, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

well, I play on Xbox and the same thing USED to happen to me. to test if you have the same problem, use and item where you can easily see it on you (i used Mages Hoods). Preform the dupe glitch. If you see part of the script for the hat still on, then your console has the same issue as mine. It means that you dropped both the original and its copy, but didn't actually dupe them. Try to change the number of items so it is a multiple of the number of scrolls (i sometimes just dropped untill there was only one copy)

OK guys i tested out tao's claim hes right im on 360. try doing it with armor while ur naked ull c ur still wearing armor. if u equip another armor, the effect dissappears. but if u equip on ANOTHER part of ur body right after u drop, like greaves helmets boots, the armor will dissappear but effect still is there. i dunno if this solves the prob for good so every1 test it out? also for certain ammys and rings it doesnt do wat tao said P90 user 06:20, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Infinite Arrows for duplication

OK, so you'll need 2 things: Big maximum encumbarance (carrying weight) 2 types of arrows. I reccomend 120 Iron and 10 Deadric arrows. 1.Equip Iron arrows. 2.Attack: Swing your weapon, cast a spell or shoot (or ready to shoot) an arrow. 3.WHILE ATTACKING Go to your Inventory 4.Press On your iron arrows. A message should come out: "You cannot change weapons while attacking" or something like that. if not, go back to step 2. 5.Shift click on deadric arrows. 6.Go back to step 1, but this time use deadric arrows (note: only if there are more deadric arrows than iron arrows.)Happy duplicating!

WARNING!: Another Glitch may occur if you rapetdly use this glitch, that actually happened to me. If you make about 75k of arrows, equip one set of arrows then other, they may False duplicate, that is there will be 2 of, for example, 25k deadric arrows. BUT, they will be used as one. on a side note, if you make to much of these False duplicate arrows, you may get One more glitch. You can't drop any of these items. that is, You try dropping 29k iron arrows, it still is in your inventory, BUT the game actually DROPS the 29k arrows, IN SMALL QUANITIES. THAT brings MASSIVE LAG. also, the inventory encumbarance changes, but the amount doesn't. For example, you're a low level player with a carrying max. of 207. it actually drops, leaving you with 29k 0.1 weighting arrows (Which is 2.9k carrying weight).

EDIT1: I just screwed my save game up. i tried puttuing away the arrows in a container, ended up having 144k arrows. after that a glitch after a glitch came on. After that i droped 29K ENCHATED blades! Heh, i guess i'll never be heading to tiber septim's again...

EDIT2:Finnaly, got rid of arrows. now i have only 8 -_- — Unsigned comment by 78.56.98.116 (talk) on 21 December 2009
