Easter Egg?[edit]

I don't know if it's okay to put CS-related easter eggs on the quest pages, so here's one I found:

In the script for this quest, the variable that indicates whether you killed the goblins or just ran away is called ranawaylikeapunk. --M2pt5 20:35, 27 July 2006 (EDT)

Bug?[edit]

Ran into an interesting possible bug - after the 'introduction' in the blackwood training area and being given the Hist Sap - I stay locked in the 'observe' mode and can't open my inventory to take the hist sap. Jeetum has gone back upstairs but I can't escape the locked mode. using 'tcl' is somewhat humourous as i can only move vertically :) What is the code to advance the quest from the setstage commands? --MacFodder 04:51, 1 March 2007 (EST)

SetStage FGD08Infiltration 30 should do it, including re-enabling player controls
Any chance you remember the sequence of events well enough to have any idea what might have triggered this bug? From what I can piece together in the construction set (it's been a while since I did the quest myself so my memory doesn't help too much here), what's supposed to happen is:
  • You join the Blackwood Company, which sets the stage to 20 and gives the quest update:
I was able to join the Blackwood Company. I am to report to the training room to prepare for an upcoming mission.
  • Once Jeetum has gone to the basement and once you approach the quest marker (distance <= 512), the controls are disabled and he starts in on his speech, which has three parts:
The four of you have a mission. The settlement of Water's Edge has contracted us to take care of some goblins in the area.
Apparently, they've been giving the locals some trouble. Shouldn't be a problem for you four, though.
The three of you should be prepared by now, but as you see we have a new recruit with us as well. I'll need a word with you, recruit.
  • He is then supposed to immediately start talking to you, saying:
You'll need to be careful on this mission. Sometimes new recruits have complications. They are not used to our methods.
Take this. It will increase your skills in battle. We use it often. It is a good, good thing.
  • He gives you the hist sap.
  • You then have the dialogue topic "What is this?", followed by the topic "You smuggle Hist Sap?"
  • When he answers the smuggling topic, the quest is supposed to update to stage 30 and you get back your controls.
It sounds like you were given the hist sap, but then did you get the followup dialogue topics? Did you go through them or did you somehow escape out of them? It would be useful to figure out what triggers this and what players should do to avoid the problem. --Nephele 21:54, 4 March 2007 (EST)

caption[edit]

I don't know if the caption for the picture is supposed to be ironic, but it's pretty obviously wrong otherwise. Shouldn't we change it to reflect the docile nature of the "goblins"? Lalanas 18:36, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

ZOMBIES?! GHOSTS?![edit]

i just did this quest and when i returned to water's edge to talk to the guy, the people you actually killed were standing around him, except you couldn't activate them or hit them with a weapon and their eyes were black. they were slowly drifting across the screen. has anybody had this issue or know if it will affect my game file? Lalanas 18:47, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

Read the bugs section on the main page, there are reasons stated there. Volanaro

Another Bug[edit]

You are required to speak with Jeetum-Ze who is positioned on the staircase between the first and second floors of the Blackwood Company Hall. After accepting you into the Blackwood Company, he asks you to follow him to the training room and then procedes to walk between the first and second landings in a continuous never ending cycle. Fix is unknown as of yet.

This bug has been moved here from the main article. Bugs without any explanation for what causes the bug, nor any recommendations for how to fix the bug, really don't help any readers. The reason for describing bugs related to quests is to either let readers know what they should do (or avoid doing) in order to not trigger a bug. Or else, a bug report should give readers tips on what to do after the bug has occurred. This post does not provide any such type of useful information. And since most players complete this quest without any such bug, it is also not a bug that invariably occurs. --NepheleTalk 21:09, 9 August 2007 (EDT)

I discovered a, sort of, trick with this one, just approach the guy (Jeetum-Ze) in hand-to-hand combat after talking to him, block his way when he's at the lowest point in his cycle and beat him till he gets out of his routine (seriously it worked, and i was just doing it out of irritation :)), then run away. DON'T KILL HIM. --oRiX 19:03, 13 August 2007 (+2GMT)

I got this bug. I loaded a save and waited till he moved away from the staircase, then talked to him. That worked fine. I'd say giving the advice not to talk to him while he's on the staircase would certainly help. --IronMaiden 17:01, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

The same thing happened to me and I also started beating him out of frustration XD It only works if you are at the bottom of the steps so he will chase you lower. Then, once you get him off the stairwell just surrender as usual and he will continue downstairs to the training room. --Rain 22:39, 6 January 2011

I got the same bug. To solve it: Remove your weapon and hit Jeetum-Ze with a fist attack (you may have to hit him more than once) until he draws his sword and chases you. Lead him to the door on the first floor marked as the Training Hall. Once in the basement he will try to kill you. Just beat him down (I was lucky and had Ring of Retribution on plus A Necklace of Swords which protects from the blade and reflects 33% damage). Once he knocks out just hang out beside the other Blackwood recruits and wait until he revives. He will go right into his speech and your on you way. To whomever runs this site: I really had to dig to find these hints from other players. You should post them on your "bug board" on Infiltration front page. Thank you. ----Jaidoprism7 November 24, 2011

Hist sap immunity?[edit]

If you are playing as an Argonian, does the mission continue as normal when you consume the Hist sap?--Merco 10:41, 19 August 2007 (EDT)

Sure does, although Modryn will later state that he is "a bit surprised the sap affected you the way it did, given your heritage" --Saruuk 19:27, 19 August 2007 (EDT)

Needing Verification[edit]

I am a bit dubious about one of the sentences mentioning sheep in the notes section. I have tested it over and over again but I have never encountered the dead bodies being replaced by walking sheep...--Matthewest TCE 04:55, 17 April 2008 (EDT)

Its true, although the sheep are dead, just standing along the fence. As soon as I saw it, I thought, "Like lambs to the slaughter," but that might just be because I'm a horrible person. :P Also, in my game, in addition to the lambs, the people I had killed as goblins were standing and slowly moving backward, like in the glitch mentioned before. I'm going to remove the verification. — Unsigned comment by 68.8.2.73 (talk)
I, too have encoutered the standing, backward-moving bodies glitch. It seems the "needs verification" still hasn't been removed, so I will. 99.244.101.16 13:09, 19 May 2008 (EDT)
This sounds like the more generic frozen corpse bug (can't find a link at the moment). Can anybody confirm whether this is the same thing or something different? For now, I've left the VN off the page, cuz it's not hurting anything, but if it IS the same generic bug, then we can remove the entire entry from this page. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 21:46, 20 May 2008 (EDT)

Curious[edit]

Can goblins be Wabbajacked? What happens if you do it to the Water's Edge inhabitants? 75.27.225.61 01:02, 11 September 2008 (EDT)

I haven't tried it, but I'm pretty certain you can't use it on goblins, as they aren't creatures in the same sense that other animals are. I could be wrong, though. Water's Edge people are NPCs, but in goblin form I'm not sure what applies. Try it yourself, and see what happens. You could be able to contribute something to the wiki. --Mike | Contrib 06:14, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
Yes, Goblins can be Wabbajacked, like almost all creatures, even the Goblins at Water's Edge. During the quest the people are simply removed and replaced with Goblins. When you return the Goblins will simply be replaced with dead people. --Timenn < talk > 15:11, 12 September 2008 (EDT)

Horrid Bug[edit]

I need some help urgently. I had installed the C&C Blackwood Company which lets you play the quests from the Blackwood Company side (I suppose someone is familiar with it). Trouble is, I got bored (the text went too fast since I have a spanish version of the game and thus couldn't understand the missions), I never got that far (3rd. mission I think) and so, I joined the fighters guild. However, this had some consequences: the game crashed when Modryn entered Arpana (solved it with a setstage command) but now, during the Infiltration quest the Blackwood Company Hall has completely disappeared. What do I mean? Whenever I enter the hall there is only one argonian guard in gree crystal armor, there are no doors (leading to the basement, the upper rooms, etc.) and NO NPCS and so, I cannot advance the quest. I had already disabled the mod. I tried unninstalling the mod, uninstalling and reinstalling the game and yet, nothing. There are only black holes where the door should be. Does anybody know how to solve this? Please help me!! (I know that I could use the setstage command but I really want to go through the quest). — Unsigned comment by 190.3.147.17 (talk)

I have vaguely heard about this mod and if I remember well it said *NOT* to run it and then join the Fighters Guild. This [1] link might help, if it is the mod you're talking about. In any case I would suggest removing the mod from your Data files, and, in case you have already done that, either start a new game or contact the maker or post a comment on the official thread (both are available in the link) --SerCenKing 14:26, 24 February 2009 (EST)

I've run across this "black hole" bug as well. I installed 3 mods, discovered the bug, then uninstalled the mods. The black holes remain. I can walk into the black holes, but I fall into the basement of the chapel where I am currently trapped. Blackwood was NOT one the mods installed, but this is the only place I've found any mention of this bug. Any leads would be appreciated. -littlefriend420 01/26/2012

Sheep and backward-moving people[edit]

Has anyone encountered BOTH bugs upon returning to Water's Edge? I just fast traveled there... and then... bam! There were sheep (two of them were clipped) and the reversing ghosts. I hope it's not just me... Farslayer 09:26, 10 April 2009 (EDT)

I redid the quest after reloading a previous save and once again went back to Water's Edge after talking to Oreyn. This time around, half of the villagers were sheep in their death stance (lying down) and the other half normal corpses. I'll upload a proof video sometime later. Should this be added to the article? Farslayer 10:19, 10 April 2009 (EDT)

I'm playing on xbox and I've also encountered both bugs. The people were moving backwards and then just disappeared into the rock behind them. There were also sheep, they were obviously dead(I could have taken their meat) but were not lying down, just standing there. The bug, however, did not hinder me to finish the quest.84.174.8.234 21:52, 11 April 2013 (GMT)

Half of the notes are actually bugs...[edit]

And consider there is no bug section, unlike other pages with a bug section, shouldn't the bugs be moved to a bug section? — Unsigned comment by Catmaniac66 (talkcontribs) on 2 March 2010

Done! :) --SerCenKing Talk 09:09, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Lock[edit]

When I first did this quest, the door into the Blackwood Company Hall was locked. I'm on the PC, so I just console-unlocked it, but I felt I should mention it as a possible bug. -DevotedInsanity 23:43, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

The door is closed at night. 87.253.14.166 22:32, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Yet Another Bug[edit]

I fast-traveled to stables from Water's Edge and got on my horse before I was transported to Oreyn's house. As a result, I was transported there together with the horse! --83.251.101.131 21:12, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

I wouldn't consider this a bug, but instead a logical follow-up to your actions. Since you were with your horse, it would be strange to leave it in Blackwood, even though you were found in the streets of Leyawiin. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 09:41, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
But, as a result, my horse ended up in Oreyn's house, and there was no way to get it out. This is not supposed to happen in the game. --83.251.101.131 10:12, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
I suppose that's a bug, so sorry for my premature reply. I hadn't thought about the consequences. I deem this article-worthy, I'll add it. Thanks! Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 10:25, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Actually, it was already mentioned, albeit it needed a verification. It seems you have provided that verification. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 10:28, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Hist Sap Crash[edit]

Moved from File Talk:OB-Map-WatersEdge.jpg Emoboy64 22:02, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Can't get the quest[edit]

I finished Information Gathering and now I can't get Infiltration. I'm also only Defender rank and neither Burz nor Azzan nor Oreyn will promote me, however Burz and Azzan both tell me to talk to Oreyn, who still won't give me any quest. I always did all the Fighters Guild contracts I could get before I advanced in rank, maybe that's what caused it. Solution: you have to ask for two advances before deliver Ajum-Kajin on quest Information Gathering. Winning the champion rank and being able to do the Infiltration quest. (Sorry for bad english, I just want to help anyone who has this problem)

Body Bug[edit]

The same bug with the dead bodies happened to me, exept they were all super short. My character was a wood elf and they were shorter than me. Just felt like pointing that out.

Bugs everywhere, some help would be usefull :)[edit]

First of all I cant get the quest, I finished the Investigation quest but I have no conversational options for starting this quest with Modryn (I have done all of the other fighters guild quests).

After fixing this by using the console (setstage FGD08Infiltration 10) I go to Jeetum-ze and now he does not give any conversational options for joining the Blackwood Company.

After fixing that with the console the door to the training area where you need to go is locked, even after Jeetum-ze has entered.

I unlocked the door with the console and went in. Now my loving new team members attack me on sight. Jeetum-ze talks about a potion and gives it to me, after the conversation the 3 fellows are still going berserk.

I really want to do this quest but I don't know how, so any help would be more than welcome. — Unsigned comment by 145.99.159.169 (talk) at 15:27 on May 10, 2011

Using the console to set quest stages does not execute whatever code goes with those stages. You should not do it, unless you know there is no code associated. --Brf 20:41, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Ok, that explains why the three Blackwood members would still attack me on sight. Is there a way to do this quest with all these problems going on though?— Unsigned comment by 145.99.159.169 (talk) at 15:55 on May 10, 2011

I've looked all over the place for a fix for this, and I FINALLY figured out what was causing it. Unfortunately, the person who replied was right: the 'setstage' command is hardly helpful at all since it doesn't start any scripts that allow the quest to be playable.

For anyone who still has this problem, here's the fix. Right after the guy kills himself after the interrogation, open the console with the "~" key and type in what's within these brackets: "player.setfactionrank 2228F 7" (this will advance you to the "Guardian" rank in the Fighters Guild), then you'll be able to get the dialogue option from Oreyn to start the next quest. So yeah, apparently this otherwise game-breaking glitch was caused by the player's damn modesty in not going for the "Advancement" option in previous contracts -____-'. You need to be a Guardian of the Fighters Guild to initiate "Infiltration".

Help cant finish infiltration[edit]

I knocked out all the blackwood company members in the basement Then drank the hist. When i arrived at waters edge Thr goblins where here but Blackwood guys were gone.Lamar155 03:29, 7 August 2012 (UTC)lamar155

360 Glitch[edit]

I am playing on the 360, so I can't enter commands

I'm up to this quest too. All throughout the Fighter's guild missions I've been having problems with the quests not showing up in my journal. Finally when I get to to Infiltration part I'm having a MAJOR problem. It seems that I've already joined the Blackwood Company unknown hours of gameplay ago. Now I don't have the key I need to get into the training room AND no one will give it to me. I've tried pick pocketing everyone but to to avail. I've also snuck into the Argonian on the 2nd floor's room to see if it was in there, but it wasn't. I can't find Ri'Zakar, the person who lives on the top floor and the leader of the Blackwoods, anywhere. I waited around in the guild hall for almost a whole day and he never showed up. He has the key on him, so If I could pickpocket it from him then I would be set. Anyone have any advice? — Unsigned comment by 68.193.145.8 (talk) at 18:44 on 3 September 2012‎

sheep bug[edit]

Pretty sure they're supposed to be sheep... there were more goblins than villagers, I think, so some of the "goblins" were villagers and others were their sheep... How do we know this is a bug? 24.157.72.50 03:25, 10 May 2015 (GMT)
