May, not Will[edit]

I hesitate to disagree with the creator of the UOP but you should be transported outside the campus section of the university if suspended whilst on its groups. That means that being trapped should never happen, hence my text tweak. –RpehTCE 13:57, 5 February 2008 (EST)

Mixup?[edit]

In the article it says that you 'cannot' assault a member of the guild, so you wouldn't have to get the Nightshade and Mandrake Roots. In the questlog at the bottom it says that those are the ingredients to fetch when you stole from a guild member. The Dragon Tongue and Redwort Flowers are therefor not neccesary, as I understand. I still can't try this out, not until Friday I think, so if someone could check whether the questlog in the article is wrong or it's the other way around? - Korunox 10:27, 20 February 2008 (EST)

It's not a mixup - both parts are correct. The comment says that the assault scripts have been commented out. The quest stages remain in place, but it's impossible that they will ever be accessed except through the console. –RpehTCE 10:38, 20 February 2008 (EST)
What I mean is: the two parts contradict eachother. The first part says to get Dragons Tongue and Redwort Flowers after theft, and the questlog says to get Nightshade and Mandrake Root after a theft.
I double checked it on the article. If the questlog is right then you would never need to get Dragons Tongue and Redwort Flowers, because these are for assault where the first part of the article says they're for theft. If the questlog is right, then it is kind of useless to mention the places to find Dragons Tongue and Redwort Flowers here.
Questlog requires Nightshade and Mandrake root for theft
Article requires Dragons Tongue and Redwort Flowers for theft
See where I'm going? - Korunox 10:51, 20 February 2008 (EST)
Don't forget that "Stages are not always in order of progress". I can't check this right now, but I'd imagine that the theft script sets stage 10 then stage 25 - the entries are in the wrong order. –RpehTCE 11:05, 20 February 2008 (EST)
That would certainly explain it. I can't play right now, otherwise I'd first have checked in-game what it told me to get. - Korunox 12:42, 20 February 2008 (EST)
Without a doubt, in game you are required to get Dragon's Tongues and Redwort Flowers for stealing. --NepheleTalk 12:58, 20 February 2008 (EST)

Not getting expelled[edit]

If you mean never get expelled then I can't say but I know you can get suspended. But not expelled but if it means its like the fighters guild and dark brotherhood factions you can't get suspended or expelled. He/Shes very wrong it is still possible — Unsigned comment by EmawWyvern (talkcontribs)

Umm, sorry, what are you trying to say? Is this in regards to the comment under Oblivion:Mages Guild#Third Offense? If so, the sentence clearly states that as Archmage you do not get permanently expelled. The comment has nothing to do with whether or not you can get suspended. Which is why the comment is under "Third Offense" and not under "First Offense" or "Second Offense." --NepheleTalk 21:57, 8 March 2008 (EST)
I agree with that; I don't think that particular fact needs to be verified. However, it should maybe be cleared up about what happens when you do commit an offense: does the Imperium punish you with a fine, or do you get suspended from the guild until you give Raminus some more ingredients? TexasWatermelon Sit and chat by the TexasWatermelon Patch 03:54, 30 June 2008 (EDT)
I just caught today as Arch-Mage and I know for sure what occurs. All that happens is that you may get a bounty for your crime. No ingredient gathering or suspension at all. I've changed the page to reflect this. --Xyntfos 19:16, 12 July 2008 (EDT)
Except that you can get suspended even when you're Arch-Mage, and you can be forced to collect ingredient samples to be reinstated. That's one aspect of this that we are quite sure of. See the lengthy discussion with multiple examples at Oblivion_talk:Mages_Guild#Mages_Guild_Suspension. As is generally the case, a single player's experience does not provide conclusive evidence on what can occur under every possible circumstance. --NepheleTalk 21:13, 12 July 2008 (EDT)
I thieved from somebody twice from the Mages Guild before I was Arch-Mage. I did both first and second suspension quests. Now, I'm Arch-Mage, and I killed someone, which would be the third suspension. However, I didn't get a bounty, nor did I get a chance to redeem myself. Instead, when I walk into the Arch-Mage's Lobby, I'm teleported out, and my Mages Guild Key was removed. Any suggestions besides reloading a previous save? Koyo123 16:25, 5 August 2008 (EDT)

() I've done both guild suspension quests, and then when I got the Vampire Cure potion from Melisande and left her house I got the "Mage Guild Key Removed" w/o any information about why... Playing on the XBox360 so can't do any console stuff to get it back. And now everytime I enter any Mage Guild Hall I get teleported out, and when I visited Arch-Mage's Lobby the first time Raminus wasn't there and I could walk around in there. Then I stepped outside and waited for him to get there and when I entered it again he said "I've been waiting for you, Associate" and I was teleported back outside. --IzaacJ (talk) 02:12, 13 October 2012 (GMT)

Stuck in the University[edit]

Under the Bugs section, it says you can get stuck in the University after being expelled and then lists ways to get out. I've found that I can get out with only three paintbrushes if I use the low wall that runs along the edge of the path near the main building, even with a rather low Acrobatics. Darkle 21:54, 24 July 2008 (EDT)

Frenzy[edit]

if you cast frenzy on a mage member and they attack you, if you kill them in self defense, will you be suspended? Amantius Allectus 17:39, 11 August 2008 (EDT)

Nope. Frenzy away! --Xyntfos 17:50, 14 August 2008 (EDT)
This is old, but correcting bad information, if you kill orattck a M.G. member for any reason you will get expelled. Once someones spell reflected off me and I got expelled!--Arch-Mage Matt 01:46, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Very weird Glitch[edit]

I thought I would stop fast travelling for a while, when I came upon a Spider Daedra and a Conjurer from Mages Guild. Then, the conjurer attacked me, and I attacked his creature. I was firstly banned from the Dark Brotherhood, and then suspended from the Mages Guild, both because of theft! Can someone explain this? — Unsigned comment by Lolol (talkcontribs) on February 22, 2009

First, Conjurers are not in the mages guild, even though they wear mages robes. Also, your glitch sounds like the one that relates to attacking your own horse in an unpatched game. Did you hit your horse recently? Is your game up to date with the latest patches? — Unsigned comment by 99.153.45.165 (talk) at 17:10 on 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Questions (moved from article)[edit]

The following was moved from the main article. Origionally posted by 90.208.107.18 on September 30, 2009.

  • If your arch mage and you get suspended from the guild, then whose arch mage for the remainder of the time (or leader)?
  • For some reason when i was wearing the Gray Fox mask and i killed a fellow mage, the mages guild still knew it was me, and thats never happened to me before!
I killed an Adept while Arch Mage and waasn't suspended, I'm guessing the gray fox mask is the result of a patch and/or mod. MikeTalk 12:32, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
Well I know that some guilds know that you are your player even if you have the Gray Cowl on. I will have to test it out. JackTurbo95 14:58, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Cannot get into the Arcane University[edit]

Raminus Polus is supposedly inside the University, but I've been expelled before I could access it. Can anyone tell me how to get past the gates that say "No matter how hard you pull, the gate does not move." Or do I need to find Raminus Polus somewhere else to get reinstated in the Mages guild? — Unsigned comment by 192.154.47.3 (talk) on 2 March 2010

Raminus is in the Arch-Mage's Lobby, which can be accessed even if you get kicked out of the guild. --SerCenKing Talk 20:25, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Fake Suspension?[edit]

i do not know why, but for some reason i cannot complete any quests in the mages guild. whenever i speak to a leading member of each town, they say i have been suspended and need to talk to raminus polus. however there is nothing in my quests saying i have been suspended. also, when i talk to raminus, he does not mention my suspension — Unsigned comment by 90.207.85.210 (talk) on 10 May 2010

Presumably you've completed the recommendation quests? rpeh •TCE 14:31, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Here is an odd one:

As Arch Mage I was doing the Odiil Farm quest with an apprentice mage follower.

As the goblins attacked, my follower and my summoned creature engaged them while I hung back to cast Shield and Heal on the brothers.

Very shortly into the fight, the summoned creature and my follower started fighting (couldn't tell

who started it). The follower is killed and I am suspended from the Guild! I tried this three times with different summonings. 76.182.41.198 02:51, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

trespassing or not?[edit]

in the quest section it states that it is trespassing to go into the Arch mage's quarters if you are suspended, but in the notes section it states that you still have the right to access the Arch mage's quarters (if you are Arch mage). which one is correct? Huw7000 12:01, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

I didn't think the Arch Mage could be suspended. In any case, accessing your own quarters would not be trespassing. --Brf 12:27, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
The Arch-Mage can be suspended but not forever. Like it says , all you have to do is duplicate items in the enchanted chest. JackTurbo95 14:27, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Moved from page[edit]

Note: If you include stolen Redwort flowers (or any of the other required ingredients), say two stolen flowers and 18 non-stolen flowers, the two stolen flowers will be taken and you will have the 18 flowers left.

This is part of a game wide glitch im currently documenting on Oblivion:Glitches/Proposed. Datacaust 21:57, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
