So the article is not that great. Yep, you're right. I have the 360 version, but if someone could find some sort of music sheets for the soundtrack that would be great. Any other contributions to this unhappy article would be appreciated. Thanks, Verin Sedai 18:35, 14 November 2006 (EST)

Nessicity of page?[edit]

Nessisity of page is questionable, and material useless (as of the moment). I added a stub tag-any opinions? -- Dylnuge(talk · edits) 23:13, 20 November 2006 (EST)

I'm serious. There's no need for this page, especially when no-one is willing to put any work towards it. Anonymous removal of my suggestion for deletion doesn't change the fact. --FMan 21:55, 5 January 2007 (EST)
The recommended course of action if a proposeddeletion tag is removed from a page (implicitly suggesting that someone disagrees with the proposal) is to put it up for Deletion Review. That process is set up to allow a discussion of the pros and cons of deleting a page (and can not be circumvented by just deleting the Deletion Review tag). --Nephele 00:30, 6 January 2007 (EST)
Alot of people like me would like to know where to get this music. This is a wikipedia and a wikipedia has pretty much EVERYTHING about it's subject so if you don't like it, go somewhere else --Matthewest TCE 07:06, 2 May 2008 (EDT)
You should read the dates on the previous messages before posting. That discussion had been dead for well over a year and has been made irrelevant by the one below. –RpehTCE 07:51, 2 May 2008 (EDT)

Some new information worth including?[edit]

I just got the game's soundtrack. These are the tunes, 26 of them in total.

  1. Reign of the Septims (Title)
  2. Through the Valleys
  3. Death Knell
  4. Harvest Dawn
  5. Wind from the Depths
  6. King and Country
  7. Fall of the Hammer
  8. Wings of Kynareth
  9. Alls Well
  10. Tension
  11. March of the Marauders
  12. Watchman's Ease
  13. Glory of Cyrodiil
  14. Defending the Gate
  15. Bloody Blades
  16. Minstrel's Lament
  17. Ancient Sorrow
  18. Auriel's Ascension
  19. Daedra in Flight
  20. Unmarked Stone
  21. Bloodlust
  22. Sunrise of Flutes
  23. Churl's Revenge
  24. Deep Waters
  25. Dusk at the Market
  26. Piece of Akatosh

As soon as I hear a tune I know when and where it will played in the game so I can sort them into categories like "Dungeon Tunes", "Wildnerness", etc.

The only problem is I downloaded the soundtrack so I don't know if these are the official names of these tunes or if the person who posted them just made them up. I have the 360 version of the game and I plan on getting the GOTY edition too so please don't think I'm into piracy. BTW if anyone else wants the soundtrack for the purpose of filling this page, I can give you the link although I can do it on my own, I just need the thumbs up. --Sundaroct131088 13:03, 28 August 2007 (EDT)

*UPDATE* I looked up the soundtrack's playlist at another site and it seems these are the official names, so I'll add this now. --Sundaroct131088 15:37, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
Nice work. This page has been sitting with an idle Deletion Review on it for over 8 months, but you finally gave it a reason to exist. Maybe could do with a bit more description of the actual tracks, and might possibly make sense to move it to Oblivion:Soundtrack instead, but at least it's now a valid article. --TheRealLurlock Talk 00:02, 29 August 2007 (EDT)
I don't know if this is a European vs American version issue but I have all this music - in the proper, orchestral version - in my game directory:
  • Data\Music\Special\tes4title.mp3 is "Reign of the Septims",
  • Data\Music\Battle\battle_01.mp3 is "March of the Marauders",
  • Data\Music\Explore\atmosphere_01.mp3 is "Glory of Cyrodiil",
  • Data\Music\Public\town_05.mp3 is "Dusk at the Market", and
  • Data\Music\Explore\atmosphere_07.mp3 is "Wings of Kynareth".
Those are the only ones on the DirectSong website so I can't link the others. The other thing worth mentioning is that there are 28 MP3 files in the Music directory - two more than there are on the album by the look of it.
Is this just this side of the pond or do y'all have it too? --RpehTalk 16:08, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
I'm seeing 8 mp3s in Battle, 5 in Dungeon, 7 in Explore (although the numbers go up to 9; #2 and #5 are missing), 5 in Public, and 3 in Special. So, yes, I've got 28 tracks total, too.
I've got no idea how to translate the mp3 names into the song names, however. I just spent too much time fruitlessly checking the bonus materials DVD to see if there's any soundtrack included there, but I couldn't find anything.
My guess right now is that Special\death.mp3 and Special\success.mp3 are probably the two extra mp3s. They're only 13 seconds and 17 seconds in length, respectively, which is definitely shorter than anything listed in the article. I just realized that iTunes is completely messed up on my new laptop, so I can't easily play the mp3s to hear what they actually contain, but I'm guessing that death.mp3 is the brief burst of music you hear when you die. Very very familiar, but not exactly soundtrack material ; --NepheleTalk 17:06, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
Thanks, added. --Sundaroct131088 05:11, 7 September 2007 (EDT)
I had a brainwave (expect reports of a small earthquake in the London area). By comparing the lengths of the MP3 files to the lengths in Sundaroct's post I've come up with this mapping. I can't guarantee it's 100% right but there's enough of a correlation to suggest that it's at least very close:
Through the Valleys atmosphere_03.mp3
King and Country atmosphere_08.mp3
Wings of Kynareth atmosphere_07.mp3
Glory of Cyrodiil atmosphere_01.mp3
Minstrel's Lament atmosphere_04.mp3
Peace of Akatosh atmosphere_09.mp3
Harvest Dawn town_01.mp3
Alls Well town_02.mp3
Watchman's Ease town_04.mp3
Sunrise of Flutes town_03.mp3
Dusk at the Market town_05.mp3
Wind from the Depths Dungeon_01_v2.mp3
Tension dungeon_02.mp3
Ancient Sorrow dungeon_03.mp3
Unmarked Stone dungeon_04.mp3
Deep Waters dungeon_04.mp3
Death Knell battle_07.mp3
Fall of the Hammer battle_04.mp3
March of the Marauders battle_01.mp3
Defending the Gate battle_06.mp3
Bloody Blades battle_05.mp3
Daedra in Flight battle_03.mp3
Bloodlust battle_02.mp3
Churl's Revenge battle_08.mp3
The atmosphere_06.mp3 file doesn't seem to have a mapping, and conversely, the "Auriel's Ascension" piece doesn't have an MP3 equivalent. That leaves the other two "Special" pieces. Death.mp3 is definitely the bit you hear when you die and success.mp3 is what you hear when you level up. So basically, who needs the soundtrack album? :-) --RpehTalk 05:42, 7 September 2007 (EDT)
I don't know about the other versions but whenever I boot up my 360 and load a save, "Glory of Cyrodiil"(atmosphere 1) is always played during that initial loading screen. Try it out, I think you know the tune. --Sundaroct131088 15:00, 7 September 2007 (EDT)
Best I can tell atmosphere_06.mp3 is indeed Auriel's Ascension. If the song in this YouTube Video Is actually Auriel's Ascension as it claims to be then they are one in the same, since they do match up. I don't own the actual soundtrack so I can't verify if the Video correctly named the song or not.--Briareus 18:33, 7 October 2007 (EDT)
The file atmosphere_o6.mp3 is Auriel's Ascension. I checked on my GOTY edition sound thingy. Oblivion>Data>Music>Explore. It is from what I can tell from obsessively listening to the ingame music >_>' Allicia 21:33, 22 April 2009 (GMT)

XBox Music[edit]

I've moved the following from the article because, as written, it doesn't really make sense ("somewhat remedied" is an oxymoron) and I don't know enough about the XBox version to improve it:

The track "Auriel's Ascension" is not included on the Xbox 360 version of the game, however this is somewhat remedied by using the custom soundtrack option on your Xbox 360. It is included on the PC and PS3 versions out of the box.

Anybody else? –RpehTCE 11:09, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Problems with Direct Song[edit]

I bought the soundtrack at Direct Song and it was the WORST customer experience I had on Internet. The site doesn't warn properly customers about the characteristics of the files they offer and the operative system you need. Plus the files have some technical problem with the DRM's permissions, so you are not able to even burn on a CD some of them. I am a Macintosh's user and was finally never able to use the songs and lost my money. Be careful when buying at Direct Song — Unsigned comment by 201.252.160.71 (talk)

I found that their customer service was pretty good when I asked for a refund due to the downloads being infected with DRM—they processed it straight away without any argument. However, I do agree that potential buyers should be forewarned as the situation as it stands is somewhat less than ideal.--Cbh 12:24, 19 September 2008 (EDT)

Link?[edit]

Asides from direct song(heard bad things about it) where can the soundtrack be downloaded or bought(only if it's the cd? Wondering where Sundaroct got it... --Morgoth[[User_Talk:Morgoth|Talk]

"They are otherwise identical"? Not quite?[edit]

The two soundtracks are almost the same thing, but there's subtle differences. For one, the DirectSound soundtrack is louder. Another difference I've heard is in March of the Marauders. The flute (or whatever that instrument is) at 00:10-00:15 plays much lower notes in the DirectSound version. --Axen 11:16, 13 April 2009 (EDT)

Possible Music Bug[edit]

I've just finished the quest line for my fifth faction, the thieves guild, and now, every other time or so, when I walk into a town or the music is prompted to change, it seems to play about 5 seconds in and then switches to another song. For example, I just now, prior to coming to UESP, walked into Cheydinhal to begin knocking out the Fighter's Guild quest line, and it started to play the usual song it plays while I'm walking around but suddenly it stops then a moment or two later, it begins playing another public song. I'm not sure if it's a save file size related issue or not but it began happening after I reinstalled Oblivion to my hard drive. (I had taken it off xmas day after getting Halo 3 and wanted to install it.) I only have 2 save files at most, once for when I save and then another for the autosave. I think I should also note that load times since then have gotten pretty long. Maybe doubled since I last played. I'm not sure if it will help in determining my file size or not but it should give you an estimate. I've racked up 93 hours of play time according to my save file. Built in hard drive Xbox 360, one with like...25 MB I think it is. Anybody else having similar problems or an answer to it?

I have a similar problem myself, and I also have Oblivion installed to my hard drive. It happens, guaranteed, every time I leave Chorrol and start heading west toward Battlehorn Castle. I haven't had it happen to me in towns though. Every now and then it will happen while I'm exploring the countryside. I think it has to do with the sheer amount of things on the screen at one time, slowing the game down and forcing it to change songs. Sorry I can't really help with a solution, I just wanted to let you know you're not alone. Tea ache sea 03:55, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Not that I've tested it extensively, but there does seem to be a loading mismatch near the horse stables outside of Chorrol. The boundary between the Great Forest and the Colovian Highlands runs through here, and I suspect a conflict that causes the music to switch tracks when crossing from one cell to the other. A good test would be to cross this boundary at other locations and listen for a change in music. I have encountered this in a few other locations, but I can't specifically recall any besides this one. 360, anniversary edition

Auriel's Acsension[edit]

I'm sure it's been verified that this track does not appear on the 360 Version, But someone I know claimed to have heard it on the GotY Version of oblivion on the Xbox. I don't have mine atm, So could someone verify this? --Lucky the Cat Guy. 00:21, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I have heard this before and I only play on the 360. And I remember because it is my favorite. --Elliot(T-C) 00:25, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Links?[edit]

Does anyone think I should add some external links to, say, youtube in the sortable table so the reader can listen?--Corevette789 22:49, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Definitely. Go ahead! --SerCenKing Talk 19:35, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Hard Copy?[edit]

Is it possible to buy this soundtrack anywhere on a CD, or is it only available as a download? I really hate downloaded music, and I would much rather have a physical copy of the music. Tea ache sea 02:31, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

I don't believe the Oblivion soundtrack was released on CD. The Morrowind one was though. rpeh •TCE 04:37, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
How incredibly lame. Thanks for the info, though. I love this game's music and would love to listen to it in my car's CD player... Not a fan of burning CD's but it might have to do. Tea ache sea 03:51, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

MIDI?[edit]

Unless I am much mistaken, I have just noticed for the first time that the in-game music is not a recording of a live orchestra, but appears to be MIDI (presumably). Could anyone confirm this for me? Thanks 92.16.97.102 22:00, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

No idea. Try the Bethesda forums. rpeh •TCE 22:29, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Reign of the Septims[edit]

There are two versions of Reign of the Septims, one in the normal soundtrack and other in the begining of the game before you create your NPC, while Uriel gives his speech. Is there somewhere people can download the version of the begining whithout Uriel's speech?

Sorry for my english.TFH97 00:07, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Sheet Music[edit]

Does anyone know where I can get a piano score for reign of the septims, everywhere i have found just give mp3, tab, or virus ridden files, if anyone knows where i can get one plase post a link or email it to me 2.219.179.246 11:02, 4 November 2011 (UTC)KNJB98

Try this. I didn't look too deeply but it seems to be what you're looking for. rpeh •TCE 16:02, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Glory of Cyrodiil Not on PS3?[edit]

I've played Oblivion for hundreds of hours on PS3, but I've only ever heard Glory of Cyrodiil in loading screens when I've just loaded a save file. Can a PS3 user please confirm this? --81.174.227.153 17:56, 21 April 2014 (GMT)
