Skill Uses[edit]

I took this off the main page:

  • lvl 100 restoration + access to the Arcane University + a friggin' lot of money = semi-divinity. Using the spellmaking altar, you could make a fortify intelligence and magicka 100 points for 3 seconds to make your magicka go up 300 in the time it takes to perform a new spell. Like that, you'll be able to use a more expensive spell than normally, fx. another fortify magicka and intelligence, though for 120 seconds. Then make a lot of identical spells at the spellmaking altar (fortify magicka, intelligence and willpower preferably), otherwise they won't stack. In this way, you'll be able to raise your magicka to thousands, enabling you to use some mad spells (if you've got the patience, you'll be able to use the absolutely best restore health spell (100 points for 120 seconds), which has a cost of about 8000 magicka. Use it before a battle and no one will be able to kill you) or just let you fire a lot spells without having to think about your magicka. If you want, you could also just fortify skills like blade or blunt, possibly use more than one of those, and thus temporarily also be a master in those.

Bits of it are appropriate for the skill page and bits for Useful Spells. Bits are just inappropriate. I don't have time to clean this up now. Perhaps the original poster would care to have a go? --RpehTalk 10:36, 4 October 2007 (EDT)

Well I cleaned up the comment, but I had to cut out much in order to effectively simplify it.--Willyhead 11:07, 4 October 2007 (EDT)
Much better. Cheers, Willy! Don't worry about cutting out lots of text either. Many is the time I've written a huge paragraph of text then reviewed, trimmed, reviewed, trimmed..... and got down to a dozen words. And let us not forget that extraneous bombastic circumlocution is inimical, injurious and antipathetic to the good running of this wiki. :p --RpehTalk 15:05, 4 October 2007 (EDT)

Spells[edit]

Hey i was wondering, i need a spell of heal other, but i cant find one anywhere. Can you help me? — Unsigned comment by 69.129.216.92 (talk)

this page lists all the Restore Health spells along with the names of the people who sell them. –RpehTCE 03:48, 1 June 2008 (EDT)

Bretons[edit]

I counted when training restoration that a breton only needed 50 casts of minor heal for a level up and when using an imperial I counted 110. So I'm not sure if this is mentioned anywhere? Wizard 22:35, 12 June 2008 (EDT)

The amount required will change from one character to another based on whether it's a major or minor skill and whether or not it's a specialty skill. Given the amounts you mention, it sounds like your Breton had Restoration as a major specialty skill (requiring only 45% of normal experience to level up), where the Imperial probably had it as a minor non-specialty skill (or they were just at different levels). For more information on how this works, see the Skills page, or for more nitty-gritty detail, the Increasing Skills page. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 13:15, 18 June 2008 (EDT)

Messages[edit]

Could someone add the messaages that you get at apprentice and other ranks

Very valid point. Thanks for pointing it out. --Saruuk 08:53, 9 July 2008 (EDT)

Breton,Major,Specialization Skill 60?[edit]

How many casts will it take me to reach skill level 100 if I am already at 60 and it is a specialization and major skill?

Help[edit]

do you have to be injured to have your healing lvl— Unsigned comment by Allgreto (talkcontribs) at 04:03 on 30 August 2009

No, each time you cast a restoration spell, you gain experience. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 09:46, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

You have the hands of a healer...[edit]

I'm a mage with a restoration skill of 70, but I also have Illusion, Conjuration, Alteration, and Mysticism at 70, but the only message NPCs give me is "You have the hands of a healer." It's quite annoying. I want them to recognize all of my powers. What caused this glitch and how do I reverse it? — Unsigned comment by 68.195.61.82 (talk) on 4 April 2010

Ummmm, my best guess is you're just unlucky... NPCs don't exactly follow your whims... --SerCenKing Talk 10:59, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Tip for levelling Restoration NATURALLY mid-game[edit]

Restoration is arguably the most useful magic skill there is. And we all want it leveled fairly quickly, but oftentimes it tends to level slowly compared to other magic schools because of the low xp rate. Unfortunately, because of this and other factors restoration tends to falls behind. I know some of you will be looking here for tips on how to level restoration a little faster, without taping down your cast key for an hour and ruining the rpg experience.

Well if you have access to a spell making altar, your problems are solved. I'm not proposing you make a weak spell you can spam till the world ends. Instead, make useful spells you wouldn't think twice about using, but add a "stronger" spell effect for restoration. This could weaken the original effect of the spell, but with the restoration effect it could also make it much more powerful.

  • While casting invisibility, consider fortifying your speed/athletics as well. Not only do you gain a neat little escape trick, you're also leveling your restoration at the same time! Given of course that while the spell is considered part of the "Restoration" school you won't receive any Illusion experience, you know that illusion can be leveled fairly easily anyway by other means so it's a non-issue.
  • While casting "Shield' spells, consider adding a stronger 'Fortify Health' or 'Fortify Magicka' spell effect. More Restoration experience.
  • While casting 'Charm', consider adding a 'Fortify Mercantile' AND a 'Fortify Personality' effect. More money, and restoration experience!
  • While casting a Destruction spell, consider augmenting it with an 'Absorb' effect. Spice things up a bit.

The possibilities are endless, and this works for many schools - I myself use it for Restoration and Mysticism (Dispel + Silence effect is brilliant). Of course you'd have to monitor the xp points you are taking away from your other magic schools, but this method also tends to free up a couple spell slots on your wheel of 8, so you can expand your spell horizon even further!

As a last note, keep in mind while you're creating spells than duration often trumps magnitude for magicka economy. Good luck! --Riandrake 23:37, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Or just keep casting Heal Minor Wounds instead of more powerful spells. Much easier. rpeh •TCE 00:27, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
just another method, for immersion's sake --Riandrake 05:37, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Master trainer with KnightsOfNine addon[edit]

It is a woman in Kvatch camp(assuming you've already moved daedra out of Kvatch). May be she trains cause of Oblivion Addons Patch, dunno. Should be mentioned in article. 188.126.89.19 15:16, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

Oleta is always the master trainer of Restoration, KotN or not. The issue with KotN is that both of the trainers who normally direct you to her (Marz and Ohtesse) are killed and their replacements do not direct you to her, making master training unavailable unless you have received a referral prior to them being killed. The Unofficial Oblivion DLC Patches fix this issue by taking away the referral requirement and letting you approach Oleta directly. This is covered on the Restoration Training page which is linked in the article; this format is standard for all skill page articles in the Oblivion namespace. — Wolfborn(Howl) 21:40, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
