Own Entry[edit]

This already exists under the Houses section. Does it need its own entry? QuillanTalk 18:16, 31 August 2006 (EDT)

I agree the information is redundant. But instead of deleting, would it make sense to move the info from Houses to this page, and then transclude it? Just a thought. --Nephele 18:28, 31 August 2006 (EDT)

Page Content[edit]

If we're going to insist on having pages for individual houses, these pages should at least include complete information on the houses instead of just being redundant stubs with no useful information to add. If the only argument for creating this page is because Arborwatch has a page, then fix the Arborwatch page instead of creating a new stub. Or if really is so important to have individual pages for the houses, at least move everything from the Houses page here and change the Houses section into a redirect. --Nephele 12:25, 18 October 2006 (EDT)

Fast Travel[edit]

Please correct me if I am wrong but I believe that you can fast travel anywhere from within Rosethorn.

I've moved this comment here from the article page. You can fast travel anywhere from inside any house that you own; there's nothing special about Rosethorn Hall in that regard. --Nephele 19:32, 15 February 2007 (EST)

Not entirely correct. You cannot fast-travel from inside Benirus Manor. GenocideHeart 13:30, 10 March 2009 (EDT)

Benirus Manor i think the only reason you can not fast travel from is because it was related to a quest. --Candc466.183.188.243 03:48, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Fame Requirement[edit]

In order to purchase Rosethorn Hall, you need a minimum amount of Fame. What is it? —Dark Spark 00:59, 8 January 2008 (EST)

"You need 70 disposition with Shum gro-Yarug and 15 Fame points before he will agree to sell it to you". The details are on Buying a house in Skingrad rather than the Rosethorn Hall page itself. —RpehTCE 01:53, 8 January 2008 (EST)
So, we have an article about Rosethorn Hall, an article about how to purchase Rosethorn Hall, and an article about Houses (which includes details on Rosethorn Hall). Yet they are so independent from each other that information fails to carry over from one to another. Interesting. —Dark Spark 02:26, 10 January 2008 (EST)
No - there's one article for Rosethorn Hall, one article on a quest relating to Rosethorn Hall and a Houses page that, for completeness, transcludes the first page so all the pertinent details are on both pages. –RpehTCE 03:01, 10 January 2008 (EST)
Here's a thought. We can keep the Primary house page, but provide secondary pages for each house with in depth information on each. -Blackmystix 08:48, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Bugs[edit]

I can confirm the bug with sitting on a chair under the garlic in the basement. On a fully patched UOPed game. Playing Mystic Elves. I suppose the height of the character model got something to do with it. The thing with it is that whatever you'll position the cursor you will always select the garlic, hence you cannot get up. Havner 18:40, 13 January 2008 (EST)

What happens after you have harvested the Garlic? The Garlic Cluster should no longer be selectable with the cursor. If a custom race mod is the only cause of this bug, then it should not be covered on this page. --Timenn < talk > 11:02, 14 January 2008 (EST)
Nope, it's not a custom race. Once one activation of the stool has been broken by the garlic cloves, it won't work anymore and a reload is required. I found this with a plain unmodded Breton. The fix is in upcoming UOP v2.3; simply moved the stool elsewhere. v2.3 will also have a fix in it for the sitting camera perspective being as high as if the player was standing on the chair which also may make a difference but a tall race would still have the problem. Kivan 00:33, 15 January 2008 (EST)
I can now confirm this too. Even after harvesting the Garlic, you can't get up anymore. It is still possible to pick up stuff lying on the ground (and is nearby), but this has no effect. (I'm not running an UOP patch). --Timenn < talk > 18:31, 15 January 2008 (EST)
Actually I've found a way to get up even though the garlic clusters are above my head. I play on Xbox 360, and if you just point with the crosshairs towards the left you can actually get up without fast-travelling. SwedishBerzerker at youtube.com 14:08, 3 May 2009 (EDT)

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but I'm not sure what it really is. My friend was playing her character on my vanilla X360 copy, and she was in the Skingrad house. After exiting the jewelry box container she proceeded to move toward the balcony door along the shelves. As she was moving along it, a silver urn proceeded at an extremely high velocity (I think it would have killed her if it managed to contact and objects did collision damage) at the corner of the wall on the left side of the door and passed through said wall and escaped the cell. I don't know what exactly caused it, and neither I nor she really mind that the urn escaped, but I wanted to let you all know and see if possibly anyone could explain why it happened. 72.183.203.37 22:51, 2 July 2008 (EDT)

NEW SUBJECT: Something really annoying happens from time to time. I've placed all my precious artifacts and unique items on shelves etc. But sometimes, about two times a (virtual) week, objects tend to fall down, even though I never touched them. Some robes I've put on a shelf can sometimes rise and get stuck inside the shelf (!), although I can always grab them and put them back. But it takes time and is pretty tough work sometimes. It seems like the entire building resets itself similar to random loot-chests etc, although items don't disappear of course. Does anyone know why this happens? The only upgrade I haven't purchased yet is the Servant's Quarters. It doesn't seem to happen in my Bruma house. Please help me out SwedishBerzerker at youtube.com 14:15, 3 May 2009 (EDT)

Would like to note a bug that occured after getting Rosethorn. Purchased the house and got all the upgrades, then proceeded to put some of the fancier items in the display cases (Merhunes razor, etc). when i got the servant though, the house seemed to reset though and everything dissapeared from the display cases.

Stealing from Hammer and Thongs[edit]

Is it really useful to say that it is 'easy' to get stolen stuff for fences from the store next to Rosethorn Hall? I prefer to just go into any other random house and steal stuff rather than buying a 25K house so I can jump balconies for some heavy stolen armor. (I do presume that you need the key to reach the balconyof the Hall, thus at least spending 25,000 septims) - Korunox 13:33, 19 February 2008 (EST)

You're absolutely right. Now deleted. You should feel free to to this kind of thing yourself - as long as you post an explanation for a deletion on the talk page. –RpehTCE 15:46, 19 February 2008 (EST)

Original Price[edit]

I don't know if anyone ever actually declines to buy Rosethorn from Shum gro-Yarug, because you get an interesting bit of dialogue if you do. The reply you give him is "25,000 gold is too rich for my blood." However, he replies with "Your blood... I wouldn't pay 10,000 gold for your blood. But it is the price for this house." It seems Rosethorn was originally a bit of a bargin!

I think he's implying that the house costs more than your own blood. Saying he wouldn't pay 10,000 gold for your blood.
Nope, the price was changed and the voice wasn't fixed. Subtitles say 25,000.--24.10.172.199 07:25, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Respawning Boxes,[edit]

hey, are there ANY containers that respawn? --98.66.146.86 17:01, 13 November 2008 (EST)

Having just looked at every single one to make sure I can say with certainty: Not in here. –RpehTCE 17:39, 13 November 2008 (EST)

Eyja[edit]

A few games ago, I came to Skingrad and Eyja was leaving my house for some reason. The guards attacked her for apparently no reason, and she obviously died. While I didn't mind no longer hearing, "G'day, m'lady" while decorating my house, it was rather depressing to lose a named NPC for no apparent reason. (Hadn't saved in a while, honestly didn't care enough to replay it all.) Does anyone know of a reason for this? I've also had it happen where a guard will follow me into my house while fighting/chasing, and she'll attempt to assist my character in the fight, where if I surrender, she continues to fight and eventually gets killed. Now I can understand and prevent this on my own, but I'd like to mention that as far as I can tell, this is completely unrelated to the random killing of Eyja earlier mentioned. Upgrade[edit]

When I buy some of upgrades and give them back witout exiting the traders, necessary upgrades don't made in my house. Besides the trader don't selling unfinished upgrades again so I can't finish the quest. — Unsigned comment by 78.176.14.217 (talk) on 5 January 2010

That's a known problem and appears as a highlighted warning here. I suppose it ought to go on all the house pages too. –rpehTCE 21:28, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Base price for the Display Case Upgrade seems to be lower?[edit]

The price for the display case upgrade in my game is 1500~ while the rest of the upgrades clock in at about 2440~, I'm wondering is it just my game that's messed up (yey?) or is the front page incorrect about the base price of this particular upgrade?

I have UOP, and the most recent oblivion patch, other than that no other mods that modify prices in any way. — Unsigned comment by 90.149.141.32 (talk) on 2 May 2010

You're right. We had incorrect prices for the Display Case Upgrade (and the Balcony Upgrade too). Now fixed. rpeh •TCE 16:22, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Nirnroot bug?[edit]

(moved from the article)

Also there is a Bug that if you put a Nirnroot into a display stand on the floor before getting to the bedroom then if you save leave the house and save again and go into the house you will find two Nirnroots, the original you put in and an extra that respawans after entering the house after a save.

If I'm understanding this right, it doesn't sound like a bug with the house itself. Can somebody else try to verify this please? rpeh •TCE 14:11, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Just tried this. Nothing happened. --Manic 21:32, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

I don't get it.[edit]

I was watching a friend of mine play his game, when he went to Rosethorn Hall. Apparently Eyja was a skooma junkie or something and the goblins wanted her skoooma, and the guards found out about it, because there were about three guards lying dead on the ground, Eyja was dead, and a whole pack (like 10!) Goblins were dead. And a lot of stuff was strewn about. Can someone please explain this? I realize Eyja is bugged with the guards, but where the heck did the goblins come from??? 24.181.62.15 01:10, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

It may be that a mod was in place (eg Goblin War Party), which would account for all the corpses found (goblins follow friend into town, guards rush after them, he goes into his house in a futile attempt to "hide" his army and everything ends up getting wiped out). -  Bomb Bloke (Talk/Contribs) 02:05, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Well this was on 360, but I realize now what may have happened. My friend prrobably had a goblin totem in his house, and I read in the official book that they will go ANYWHERE to rerieve it. Thanks for the help. :)

Actually, that is impossible. Unless you feel like getting in trouble for illegally modifying a console, you CANT put PC mods onto console system versions of the game.--Iamgoofball 03:36, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Could it be that those were everscamps?

Shelf glitch[edit]

on the second floor on shelf the with the box on it right under box there is a place on the shelf that items can not be place they just go right through. this surely must be a glitch. i found it when i was placing ingredients on that shelf. --Candc4 19:37, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

That's just because the Texture is above the object, it happens. Just feel around and you should be able to find it.--Corevette789 19:25, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Lol I just figured out it happens on the same place on both shelfs --Candc4 19:37, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Are the display cases safe?[edit]

I'm not all that sure how the "respawning" thing works; if I put stuff in the display cases and leave it there, should I be worried about it someday disappearing? (360 version) — Unsigned comment by 98.70.67.48 (talk)

nope the display cases are safe (Eddie the head 03:12, 26 July 2011 (UTC))
Safe is .... Relative i like to throw all my jewels into one and i just came back to find them scattered around wildly 108.227.244.180 17:57, 17 April 2015 (GMT)

Bugs with Oblivion:Rosethorn Hall[edit]

I some reason every time I save in this house, and then try to load it later my game freezes at the load screen. Like at one point the music stops and everything. I bought the 5th anniversary edition just a few days ago. So I don't know what the problem is.

Stealing upgrades?[edit]

I found an upgrade for the upper wall hangings (I think) of Rosethorn Hall in the Surilie house, so I took it. It had a base price of 1600 or so when I saw it on the table, but in my inventory it has a base price of 0. I haven't purchased Rosethorn Hall yet, but when I do, will I get the upgrades for the thing I stole for free? 205.133.168.100 15:38, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

No, it's just a receipt. You have to purchase the wall hangings. You can't steal them from the Surilie brothers. Kitkat xxx TalkContribE-mail 15:56, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
The article apparently disagrees with you. In the second paragraph: "The upper wall hangings upgrade can be stolen from a table in the Surilie Brothers' house." Can someone confirm, and remove the sentence if it is not true? Phelaran (talk) 02:23, 6 March 2014 (GMT)

long forgotten note[edit]

Is there a way to get to the long forgotten note without needing a high acrobatics skill? is there an upgrade that will give u something to jump off of? DragonWolf 04:04, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

I suppose you could purchase the furnishings for that room and see if you can reach it by jumping from the top of the desk that will be near it. ESQuestion?EmailContribs 04:10, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
i didn't buy any upgrades at the time I posted this so I was a bit confused at how to attain the note. but thank you DragonWolf 04:31, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
You can get it without getting the furnishings. Just go to the point that the note is closest to the edge, and shoot a fireball at the edgepoint. The note will launch over to the other side, in front of the door to pick up at your ease. Dragonman0007

No balcony furniture in Rosethorn Hall[edit]

I have just bought my balcony furnishings and upgrade but when i go onto my balcony there is just a blurred floor and the door back into rosethorn hall has a tresspassing icon on it any ideas? — Unsigned comment by 46.137.22.137 (talk) at 00:45 on 24 July 2013

ownership bug[edit]

I noticed that every few times I point the cursor at an item in the house the item's name will turn orange & after that I am unable to, for example, sit on chairs as the game now thinks I am trespassing, it seems to be connected to the servant's presence.84.248.214.36 22:02, 10 June 2018 (UTC)

Never mind, did some testing & it only happens after I use telekinesis to place items in a specific spot, won't be doing that from now on...84.248.214.36 22:37, 10 June 2018 (UTC)

Owner Trespasser?[edit]

The article states: "Entering Rosethorn Hall via the upstairs balcony door counts as trespassing. However, since the door is hard to see from the street below, there is little chance of a bounty. You are still able to enter the house properly via the ground floor entrance."

The Orc steward died. So I have tried entering before owning it by hopping up there using the paint brushes trick but the balcony door also says "Needs a key". And if you try picking, "This lock cannot be picked. You need a key."

I'm not sure what the article is trying to convey -- how can you be a trespasser after you own it and have the key? Perchance, "Needs a key" can be defeated without using the console (I'm on an Xbox)?
