Similar to another Glitch

Problem

I'm playing Oblivion GOTY on PS3, I completed everything in Elder Scrolls and saved in the Shivering Islands. I also placed the Duskfang on Display at my house. I was at the mission where I need to relight the Torch in Shivering Islands. When I try to load my game, it goes to the Loading Screen, than just freezes. All the other Saves work fine. by 64.228.209.247 (I moved it here from inside a similar problem.) It seems like it's a corrupted save, but I'm not that good at this stuff, any better thoughts? I'm also wonderng if their specific situation is special, but I don't think so.-Puddle TalkContribs. 13:06, 11 July 2008 (EDT)

options menu

for some reason i cant change video options from the ingame menu any more (e.g tree fade diistance, actor fade) i change them and the game acepts the changes and aplies them, but the next time i play oblivion, the changes are undone, i can keep changes from the launcher menu e.g hdr, atialising, but not these. Any suggestions?

I assume your game crashes when you quit, right?. That means it can't save your settings, so you have to save them manually. Open the console and type "saveini".Infinity 08:24, 7 August 2008 (EDT)

yeah, it does crash on exit, thanks for your help

Please, help me

I bought Elder Scrolls for the PC today, and installed it just fine, no troubles. But every time I go to play it, a window pops up saying "Oblivion has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." And I can never play it. I don't know how to fix this, I don't know what to do. I just got it today, and I've got no idea how to fix it. I've tried to unistall it, restart it, re-install it, I've tried different settings, nothing's worked. I don't know how to get my info, I've got no clue about my computor, I'm really not tech-savy. I'm sorry I can't offer more info, but any help at all would be really appreciated. Please, please, please, help me if you can.

Save Game Problem

Ok, my brother and I both play Oblivion on our PC. After he was done play, I tried to load my save file to find it....corrupted. If I select load game, after it loads about half-way it crashes and states there is an error and the program needs to shut down. The kicker is, both the auto-save and the quicksave were used by my brother, so the only save of my game IS the corrupted game. I wouldn't mind if I had lost an hour, but I lost a good 130 hours, so yeah it kinda sucks.

Is there anyway to recover my save game, or should I just go ahead and get working on replacing those 130 hours of work?

Thanks for any help.

some one please help me with this!!

when ever i try to run oblvion, i make to the screen that says 'play' and when i push the play button , it says it stopped working and needs to close and the problem details are listed above please help! — Unsigned comment by Dementia's doppleganger (talkcontribs) on October 5, 2007

-Try this (albeit a little late):Sounds like you have the same problem I did, I'm not sure but this MIGHT work. I'm pretty sure this is in the article somewhere but here: Try going into (I had to manually open my docs then my games...etc.) My Documents/My Games/Oblivion and move everything you find in there somewhere else, doesn't matter where you can acess it later, try running oblivion. Still nothing? Try uninstall then reinstalling Oblivion, if that doesn't work then your problem's something different. Anyways once Oblivion is running, try moving your saves folder back into the My Docs/My Games/Oblivion file see if that gives you your saves back. Good Luck!

Graphics Problems

I have a Dell XPS 420 with a GeForce 8800 GTS. I did a fresh install of Oblivion and in the introductory sequence with the guards I noticed what looked like black lines on my screen. Then, when I got to fighting some rats I noticed that when I slash a sword I see blue/green lines and shapes. It happens more when I'm moving around than when I'm standing still, and it happens the most if I'm moving around while attacking. Please let me know if I should include additional information! — Unsigned comment by reyes (talkcontribs) on October 16, 2008

Maybe something is wrong with your Directx. I would try to upgrade that first. Otherwise I'm not sure what the problem is because your card should be able to run it fine (I have the same one). --Timmeh Talk 10:14, 16 October 2008 (EDT)

all trees missing in Oblivion

I was running Oblivion on a PC with XP SP2 with lots of mods. I moved my harddrive and graphics card into a new computer with a different motherboard and processor. After reparing windows, Oblivion ran well, except the trees wouldn't render. Rather, I will see them initially pop up in the distance and then the second I move they disappear never to return. So, I uninstalled Oblivion, then reinstalled. Still, no trees, with or without mods.

Has anyone had problems with Speedtree or issues with trees being displayed in Oblivion. I've searched high and low and found no reports of tree rendering problems. Anyone have a clue?

Try opening the console and press ~ tt, ~ That will toggle the trees on and off, depends if you want them or not.

Four Problems

Problem
I'm playing Oblivion on a PC. In certain non-city areas saving a game is absolutely impossible.

CTDs occur

  • when I try to save
  • when I enter a new area
  • after most fights

This started happening immediately after I left the Prison Sewer, around the area of Sideways Cave. What is the solution to this problem?

Problem
I'm playing Oblivion GOTY on PS3, When I try to load my game, it goes to the Loading Screen, than just freezes. All the other Saves work fine.

-Sounds like your save was corrupted, as far as I know there Isn't much your going to be able to do, just try playing from a different save and remember SAVE OFTEN! 174.7.23.158 01:22, 29 May 2009 (EDT)

Problem
I'm playing Oblivion Game of the Year Edition/ patched Oblivion with no add-ons (including Shivering Isles) on Windows XP. My specs are all good and the game runs perfect except for one flaw. When I try to load a game, sometimes it locks up the computer completely at the Load/Save screen, with the arrow still on the "Yes" button. There's no way to exit the game; Ctrl+Alt+Delete does nothing, and same result with Ctrl+Shift+Esc. I've left it for up to ten minutes, with no hint that the game even starts loading. I have to restart the computer manually by unplugging it or holding the power button. The game will do this between two and four times in a row before finally loading a savegame, after which the game loads, runs, and saves just fine.

Problem
I've got Game of the Year on PC with no patches and I haven't installed Disc 2 yet. Whenever I save manually (autosaves work fine) I get a "Save Successful" (or whatever it is) message, but it doesn't save. If I overwrite an autosave, the save gets deleted but the manual doesn't show up anywhere, including the saves folder.

Weird Graphics Issue

Whenever I play anything (Morrowind or Oblivion) my game doesn't show the graphics properly. Their scattered into different bits and lines. I can make one or two objects out, but that's it. My graphics card is Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE. It was just working fine 2 hours ago, and never made this kind of problem. Kestral 20:45, 25 December 2008 (EST)

Do the problems occur in other games as well now? My first thought is the card itself being damaged by something like excessive heat.--Ratwar 02:01, 29 December 2008 (EST)

NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G

Ok so I just got this laptop for Christmas, beautiful laptop, much better than my old piece of crap with the Intel integrated chipset bullcrap. My problem is, even with the resolution down in the 900 x whatevers (my laptops screen is the highest resolution on the list (1366 x whatever), the game is still abit choppy, especially in new places. I've tried putting all the sliders all the way down, even turning all effects off, and it was still choppy. Will Oldblivion work with this laptop, despite the laptop having Vista, and being brand new, without any problems from my video card (type is in this posts title)? Are there any other possible fixes to increase game speed? DaedryonTCE 20:13, 26 December 2008 (EST)

Does changing the sliders affect the choppiness? How much RAM do you have? And how choppy are we talking about in FPS?--Ratwar 02:06, 29 December 2008 (EST)
I usually have around 30-40% RAM used while using my laptop (thank you Vista Sidebar gadget :D). And the choppiness isn't that bad, it's noticeable, but not slow. Looking left and right while up close to an NPC is slowwww. Being in a dungeon is slow because of the lighting I think, but being out in the wilderness is ok. Cities are good too. I have the ArmoryLab mod, and I have all the mannequins clad in armor, and even thats getting choppy now. I tried editing the Oblivion INI file, removing the intro vids, but for some reason, after removing the original, and making a brand new INI, due to the original not letting me save my changes, the game still goes around my changes. I was trying to turn grass size off, etc, based on that guide somewhere on this site... DaedryonTCE 05:14, 29 December 2008 (EST)
Well, I think that you best bets are to just turn down most of the shadows options and perhaps use bloom instead of HDR lighting.--Ratwar 15:26, 29 December 2008 (EST)

Leyawiin Crash

Everytime I warp to Five whatever Stables near Leyawiin, and punch in tcl and tgm for god mode and clipping, to go outside the world borders, the game crashes, and Vista tries to solve the "Oblivion has stopped working". DaedryonTCE 21:32, 28 December 2008 (EST)

Actually, it's doing it whenever I fast travel out of the Hawkhaven testing cell. I have the following mods installed:
  • ArmoryLab.esp
  • Bonemold Armor Full.esp
  • DLCShiveringIsles.esp
  • gardening.esp
  • Knights - Unofficial Patch.esp
  • Knights.esp
  • Oblivion Citadel Door Fix.esp
  • Oblivion.esp
  • Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp
  • Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch.esp
  • UOP Vampire Aging & Face Fix.esp

Whats going on? DaedryonTCE 21:37, 28 December 2008 (EST)

Can you give the mod load order? Kestral 01:11, 29 December 2008 (EST)
No, sorry, but, I did get things working properly. It was the Gardening mod that caused the crashes. The "About Gardening" scroll that the mod adds, states that if the gardening spell is used too much "Bad things happen (trademark symbol)". I turned it off, and the crashes stopped. I also found out that I can't go past world boundaries, even with clipping off =[ DaedryonTCE 01:54, 29 December 2008 (EST)

Meshes & Textures folder

I'm doing a fresh uninstall and reinstall, for the 4th time. I shouldn't have had to the last 2 times, except my game kept crashing due to existing save games. The first time I uninstalled, I had quite full textures and meshes folders. Once I reinstalled, I didn't have a meshes folder, and I had quite an empty textures folder. I just checked the folders again just now, as I've finished the 4th install, and there's nothing. When are the folders formed? During gameplay? I need to know as I'll be downloading several recommended mods, such as: Bravil Sea Domes, Qarl's texture pack 3, Natural Environments, Enhanced Water, Immersive Interface, Menu Video Replacement, Loading Screens Replacer, BTMod, Qarl's Texture Pack 3 (Redimized), Illumination Within, Real Lava, Clocks of Cyrodiil, Book Jackets and Lost Spires. Prince of MadnessDaedryon 14:12, 5 January 2009 (EST)

Oh wait, it's the UOP, UOMP, and USIP that put the folders. Just figured it out. Time to install some recommended mods! Prince of MadnessDaedryon 14:19, 5 January 2009 (EST)

Looting Armor Problem

(moved from the article - seems to be a one off problem) Dr Jones 17:15, 9 January 2009 (EST)
Problem
There's some specific events causing crashes in my game: After getting an Elven or Dwarven armor from a dead body; during the Dagon Shrine quest, after taking the Mysterium Xerxes, or releasing the prisoner, or attacking someone. Graphics bug when Casting spells or under Certain Light

When i cast restoration spells, my eyes, hair, ears, and sword (nothing else) instantly turn white for a few seconds, the same thing happens around sunset or in certain dungeons, My graphics card is an ATI radion 4870. I've tried reinstalls, taking away all mods, and nothing (MMM, capes and cloaks, magical staves, shivering isles, Knights of the nine, let the people drink, and Undeadfamiliars are the count of ANY AND ALL MODS that i have)

I'd guess there's a driver issue with the 4870.--Ratwar 01:43, 28 February 2009 (EST)

Blue Screen

(moved from the article)
Problem
I have had Oblivion for several months, and it has worked fine. Recently, whenever I restart after playing it, I get the Blue Screen of Death. Even putting the disk in the computer sometimes causes it to crash to the Blue Screen. The only change that I did to my computer before this happened was installed Steam, which caused any start of my computer to result in the same screen. Uninstalling Steam fixed everything else, except the problem I am having with Oblivion. What should I do? — Unsigned comment by 24.251.184.190 (talk) on 12 March 2009

mod not playable

hey, ive recently started using the tes construction set and am working on a mod, it makes a smal hous near the water with a dock ect, but when i went to check my work ingame part way through it said "Not valid player or master file" when i tried to turn on the mod. Can anyone PLZ help?!

-Hmmm... More Info would help. Taking a shot in the dark here. So when you turn on your Mod (by turning on you mean using OBMM to activate your mod right?) you get the error message when you turn on your game, or when your halfway to the location (?) assuming it's the former assure you have saved everything properly. If that doesn't work try creating a new mod copying everything you did in your last mod onto it (takes about 5 minutes, remember how to duplicate cells and how to press ctrl+C ) see if that works. last Question have any of your other mods you made work ( have you made any others?)would make a differance.174.7.23.158 01:32, 29 May 2009 (EDT)

Odd camera (PS3)

Crash on Load

Can anyone help re CTD on loading , I have been running the game without problems for 3 years on my old machine, just upgraded to an Intel quad core i5 750 processor ( 2.66 GHz socket LGA 1156) with an Intel DP55WG mainboard , win XP home edition , 2 G RAM DDR3 , NVIDIA GEforce 8600 GT videocard. Is there a problem using the quad core processor ? The game is installed ( no mods ) but crashes ( blue screen with error info , gone before I can read any of it ) when I select the play option, after which the machine restarts. The videocard was fine in the previous machine. I have installed the latest drivers to no avail. Any help greatly appreciated.

Problem
I have been playing Oblivion for a long time, but recently, I am unable to load any of my saves nor can I start a new game. When I press "load" it goes to the loading screen for 2seconds, then I get the message about encountering a problem. I have tried uninstalling, disabling many recently installed mods, and installing mods that might correct the problem. However, still no luck.

You might want to try moving your save files to another location and trying again. Just helped a friend with this same issue. Good luck!

Screen freeze?

Problem
Screen freezes (not total crash, as in, I can still move around and the compass will respond, and I'm still being attacked) when an NPC uses a certain spell. I can still navigate the ESC menu fine and everything, but the screen will not update.
Similar Problem
I had a similar problem where once entering combat (especially when being attacked at close range) the screen would freeze and all enemies attacking my character would as well, while things in the background might still move. I could still attack, and do everything else, its just that the screen would not show anything new after the freeze (except perhaps enemies in the background like I said). The odd thing about it was I could move around the compass individually. I guess that was just because I was moving and so the compass moved because of the new directions my character faced. The fatigue/magika/health bars would move like normal, so I guess the HUD was not frozen and I was also able to enter the menu with escape, so it was not a full screen freeze/crash error.
Cause/Solution
After using the process of elimination (in big groups) of my mods I proved that It wasn't a problem with any mods conflicting with each other or Obivion. I finally dicided to check my Nvidia Control panel and went to the "Manage 3D Settings" under "Program Settings" with Oblivion selected and changed the Anisotrophic and Antialiasing modes to Use Global Setting (Application Controlled) and the Gama Antialiasing to Use Global Setting (On) and that seemed to fix it. I also turned the Texture Filtering- Negative LOD bias to Use Global Setting (Allow). So if you have a problem that sounds like the above "Similar Problem" or even the original problem just go to your graphics card control panel (whether Nvidia or ATI or a third party) and change the 3D application settings for Oblivion until the bug is fixed, or you realize it won't be fixed that way. It worked like magika for me- now I'm back to ambushing bandits and slaughtering mud crabs with glee! :)

Grass/road textures failing

.BSA Files

I have recently reinstalled Oblivion back onto my computer and when I load it up to the main menu and click start new game, and then yes. Nothing happenes. It dosent freeze, crash or anything, it just goes back to the main menu. I opened up my Oblivion program file and my meshes and textures are .BSA files and not folders. I have tried re installing the game and deleting the oblivion folder itself out of my program list then reinstalling it but it still puts in the .bsa files instead of the folders themselfs.

Then I went into my computer and explored the game disc and it says all the data files in there are damaged and need repair.

Dose anyone know what I can do to fix this or do I have to buy a new copy?

203.206.61.203 23:16, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

The game does place a couple of big .bsa files into the Oblivion\Data folder, so I don't think there is something wrong with that. But as you said, the data might be corrupted on the DVD. If you can't even explore the DVD properly, then something is wrong with the disc itself. You can always buy a new copy, but I'd recommend contacting Bethesda Technical Support first, they might be able (and willing) to replace the disc. --Timenn-<talk> 10:50, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Random crashes whilst playing.

Whilst playing oblivion my whole computer is freezing about 10-20 mins into the game. I think it may be due to my old graphics card, Although according to the game my optimal settings are medium, Not lowest of the low.. I have tried oldblivion but as soon as it loads up it crashes with the usual "Oblivion has encountered a problem" message. My computer COMPLETELY freezes. Have to restart. I'm using an Nvidia GeForce 6600. Please help!

oblivion crashes every half hour

i have recently come back to playing oblivion but every half hour or so gametime, my oblivion crashes. i am running several mods, and so though these could be the problem, except that about six months ago when i last played, all the mods i have up now were on and working fine. i then tried deleting all my mods, but it had no effect, so i reinstalled oblivion, but still no effect. Can anyone help me?

Crash/Freeze (Pretty sure it's different from the other 1,000 crash problems)

It's probably way too late to get an answer, but my Oblivion game keeps crashing (well, the better word is probably freezing) upon clicking on either Exit, Load, or New. I can go through options but once I click one of the three I just mentioned, and click Yes, it goes down. Now I'm far off an expert on computers, so please try to be as simple as you can be when answering.

The information I can give you is:

-I use a Windows Vista.

-No mods.

-Tried cleaning the disk (:P), reading the ReadMe, and testing a variety of other things, toggling with options and stuff.

-I have to get the Task Manager up to deal with the problem, it says the game is Not Responding.

-Don't think I have any patches, so if I need one, can you tell me how to get it/download it?

-All up, with different characters, probably played 300 hours or so all up.

-Happened out of the blue. I didn't do anything that I know of.

Sorry I can't give you all that technical mumbo jumbo, but help is greatly appreciated. It's been like this for a couple of months now, but I'm still a bit sad atm. I just want it to work.

Turns out it's a codec conflict. Disenabling music in the ini fixes this. 121.79.50.45 06:39, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Oblivion Freezes during level-up

Problem When sleeping to level up, once the user clicks the "Exit" button, Oblivion instantly freezes, forcing the user to close Oblivion using the Task Manager.

Solution Back up and then edit the Oblivion.ini file. Under the section labeled "Gameplay", find the line that reads begins "STrackLevelUpPath=". Delete everything on that line after the equals sign ('='). Save, close, and restart Oblivion.

Help with installing plugins?

PROBLEM Whenever i try to install a plugins like Horse Armor Pack etc. is looks like Oblivion wil runn (it turns on) but suddenly i get the message "Oblivion has stopped working".

I had the same problem, it might be because some plugins or mods need certain master files other than Oblivion.esm, click on the name of the plugin when you enter data files on the Oblivion start up thing and in the box to the right will be the description, in the description it should say Required Master Files: or something along the lines of that. If you don't have one of the master files it requires than turn off the plugin and you should be able to play Oblivion until you can require the masterfile.

Computers that can play Oblivion

I have a Dell XPS with well over 150 GB of memory left and an adequate video card, although I still can't play Oblivion(in fact, I can't even install it!). I called Technical Support at Bethesda and they said my computer wasn't good enough to play the game, although my friend's Acer Aspire can play it. I am willing to buy a new computer to play Oblivion, preferably an Acer Aspire like my friend's, but before I do I just want to see if anyone can confirm that an Acer Aspire can play the game, or at least any computers(under $400.00) that can before I buy the Aspire.-Lord Sheogorath

360 graphic issue

So one day I am sitting and playing oblivion just fine and then all of a sudden the overworld turns pink tinted. This extends to all my files everytime I load up one of them. Does anyone know what to do in this situation? There are also black specs running flickering across the screen. The menu and start screen are just fine.

Most likely due to your console's GPU (Graphics Processor Unit) and/or Graphics Memory chips overheating. This is a common problem on PC's, too, especially when they have cheap video cards with poorly designed heatsink/fan combos that don't cover the memory chips as well as the GPU. For best cooling, make sure the console's air intake/exhaust vents aren't clogged by dust/fluff or obscured by anything. Always leave space for air to circulate. Tip: Carpet pile is notorious for obscuring underside air vents (if any), so it's best to place your console/PC on a hard flat surface. ;-) h8ball 22:32, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

light blue screen while 3rd person view

Sometimes when i move around or cast a spell in third person the whole screen turn light blue but u can still see the HUD. It'll happen if u keep doing the same action. However if u go into 1st person view it stop happening, then came back when u go back to 3rd person view.

Anyone know wat causes this? --220.255.4.27 19:23, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

I am having the exact same problem.. I thought it may have been the Nvidia Fog issue, but that didn't solve it... I tried multiple types of graphics settings. HDR seemed to make it happen much more often ... Also, if I go into 3rd person just a few feet out it is fine (But the camera is sooo bumpy!), but if I go all the way out it's just a bright blue screen. I am using a Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT.

graphics at long range

i dunno if this is a bug, but looking at the pc version i realised mountains at long range are very detailed. my my 360 the mountain at long range are pretty much unrendered, water at long range flickers and are pixelated. basically anything at long is unclear. is this because the 360 version is just inferior? P90 user 09:55, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure, but this may be because the 360 version doesn't have the option to upgrade the graphics or degrade graphics and so the very basic mesh of the world is first loaded and then a small circle around you is loaded fully. This is why if you run in a straight line, you'll see a lot of texture popping as it loads. This is just speculation, but the superior graphics of the PC may be because Oblivion came out just after the release of the 360 and so Bethesda knew how best to exploit the graphics cards of PC's but not the 360. I'm probably completely wrong, but it's something you can work on :P Jaden 10:22, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
PC users with powerful video cards often replace Bethesda's original 1024x1024 Distant Land LOD (Level Of Detail) textures with higher resolution alternatives, e.g. 2048x2048 (4x detail) or even 4096x4096 (16x detail). The higher the texture resolution, the more highly detailed distant land appears, which is especially noticeable on mountains. You're probably looking at screenshots from PC's with high-res LOD textures installed. Unfortunately, texture replacement isn't possible on console versions, which are stuck with the original textures. :-( h8ball 22:14, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

I have text graphical errors

I am playing on computer and all my out of game text is screwy. Its all brown and garbled. I recently uninstalled my game because it was crashing in the escape from prison quest, on the reinstall everything is fine except for all my text(hopefully.) Dialogue is not messed up nor subtext for anything, like telling me where i am or the names of things i look at. I can provide pictures if needed.

Any work arounds or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you --Toungennose 08:14, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Pink fire and lights in oblivion

I just put on a new mod & turned anther one off then all fires and lights were pink.I turned the new mod off and turned the other one back on.Upload the game and it was still pink.... I then deleted my data folder and replaced it with my backup one from another hard drive. Still pink.... .No idea how to fix it any suggestions would be great — Unsigned comment by 71.17.113.92 (talk) on 21 April 2010

My guess is that the mod has screwed up some stuff. I've had similar problems before and solved them using OBMM.
  1. Load OBMM
  2. Click the Utilities button
  3. Select Archive Invalidation
  4. Select the "BSA Alteration" mode
  5. Make sure all the file types are selected
  6. Click "Update now"
  7. Close everything down.
If that doesn't work, maybe try some of the other modes. rpeh •TCE 06:54, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
PC users should use ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated! (search for it at TESNexus), a tiny mod which does away with editing ArchiveInvalidation.txt, BSA Redirection, BSA Alteration, etc. Installing/uninstalling mods that replace textures/meshes will now work flawlessly every time! :-] h8ball 22:41, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Moved 'Bug'

Problem
When loading the game to play, you are first unable to skip the 2K Games logo as usual. Then, instead of coming to the main menu screen, it goes to a large Oblivion symbol and loading bar. It then goes to the main menu screen, taking a very long time to load. Once you attempt to load your game, the loading bar freezes completely. It will not load.
Cause
Using plug-ins to acquire items. Glitch first encountered after using the "Frostcrag Spire Glitch" to obtain every Sigil Stone and Mace of Doom, not availible in normal gameplay.
Solution
Unknown, as of now. Glitch encountered on Xbox 360 version, not PC or PS3.
This bug seems like just the result of a scratched disk or a slow console, very unlikely it is caused by the Frostcrag Spire Glitch..--Arch-Mage MattTalk 00:03, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
it wouldn't because i've done the frost craig spire glicth and got the mace of DOOM and my game worked fine!--GUM!!! 00:46, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Non-essential Quest Item bug

Moved from page.

Problem: Random non-essential quest items interfere with correct game coding and cause system crash. The game will crash if any door is opened.

Causes: Most likely a glitch in normal processes during quests.

Solution: Use the No Quest Items mod to permanently prevent this issue. Attempting to remove quest items via command does not work.

I've removed this from the main page as it documents a bug I've never heard of before and couldn't find in a Google search and advertises a mod as the only solution. The idea that it crashes when any door is opened also seems like an unlikely scenario. Lastly, I'm not sure what a "non-essential quest item" is supposed to be. That would seem to be an oxymoron. Most Annoying Glitch in the World: The Sideways Run.

Whenever I play oblivion my character goes into a constant sideways run. I've tried re-starting the game but the problem still continues. I have also tried switching the mods I have off but they do not seem to effect it. Help please? — Unsigned comment by 86.9.29.246 (talk) at 20:55 on 20 June 2010

Same thing happened to me, after I deleted oblivion.ini from My Documents>My Games>Oblivion and re-mapped everything and redid my settings it worked fine. -Phantom93360 — Unsigned comment by 66.82.162.11 (talk) at 03:45 on 10 September 2010

Experience Increasing Endlessly?

(moved from the section on renaming quicksave.bak)
  • also make sure to disable OblivionXP as of version 4.1.5 before attempting to load your quick-save after using this method or your experience will increase endlessly.
What on earth is this about? Renaming a quick save backup cannot possibly cause problems in the game. Is this in the wrong section or just wrong? rpeh •TCE 07:30, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Olbivion Menu Problem

When I load Oblivion, there are white boxes around the title and the words at the bottom: "Load" and all of them and also where the mouse is. I can click on the boxes as normal but say I want to load a save, I can't click on the "Yes" button to load it. Any help?!?!

Oblvion Map over imperial City for grass

Hello I was playing oblivion today and i just got Battlehorn castle. When I fast traveled to a location near the castle i noticed the grass looked weird but continued. Then I first noticed the grass. It was the same square over and over, it looked as if it had a white line and greenish terrain. I figured it was only a this region. Then I went to the imperial city to buy stuff for my new city. I decided to look outside of the city and the grass was the SAME thing, but then also the ROADS were the same. I went back into the imperial city, the roads there were fine but the grass in the market district looked weird, then I looked down at it and saw a over head map of the Imperial City... I remembered seeing it in this one page of a over head view of all of cyrodill. The standard terrain was replaced to a overhead view of the imperial City. Not very useful when you have a map right in your inventory, anyway to fix it?

Oblivion Does not support windows Vista?

Hello. i have some problem that i cant install OBLIVION IV GOTY on my Windows Vista. Ive tried goto the Drive : F . it says "Please insert a disc" Well ive already did sooo... it wont work... Please reply me: p.parama6@gmail.com (Parama) — Unsigned comment by 85.200.20.5 (talk) on 16 July 2010

Oblivion definitely works on Vista, so that's not the problem. Either you have a problem with your CD/DVD drive, or the disk is scratched. rpeh •TCE 17:37, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Weird things in game

Problem: In my game, in random areas, there are large surfaces in the game that are all the same color. These are not actual game surfaces; if I manage to get below them by going below (they have variable deepness) they disappear. Also, they aren't touchable. This can be a problem when looking for enemies, dead enemies, and enemies' dropped items. Cause: Help! Solution: Help! — Unsigned comment by 24.60.118.135 (talk) on July 25 2010
