Reorganization[edit]

I was thinking about this page this afternoon when I was driving home. :) I got the idea of the following structure.

== Skill ==
Trainer1 Name: Location, 39
Trainer2 Name: Location, 55
Trainer3 Name: Location, 75

That is, all the trainers for each skill would be listed under one heading in skill order, with the trainer's skill listed. This can be extracted using CS.

Then we could get rid of the fictional lowlevel/mediumlevel stuff which IMHO is only confusing everyone, and the names for the trainers would be much easier to see, and the trainers would be in skill order, with their accurate numeric level shown.

Please comment this (I can do most of the work if this is what you choose). --FMan 09:02, 31 March 2006 (EST)

Bralsa Andaren (the Destruction master trainer) is located near a wayshrine of Kynareth, which is located off in the wilderness. It's WSW of Weatherleah and northwest of Fort Dirich. Basically, take your paper map and look over in the Colovian Highlands area. Find where it's labeled "The Imperial Reserve". Draw a line between the P in Imperial and the second R in Reserve. Draw another between the E in Imperial and the second E in Reserve. The shrine is about where those two lines cross. There's an Ayleid ruin near (Nona? It's a short name that begins with an N, but I forget exactly) to it and farther northwest. If you run from Weatherleah to Fort Ontus, you'll run across it. -- Quillan 23:14, 19 April 2006 (CDT)

Hauls Ropes Faster[edit]

This trainer won't offer training, can be fixed in the construction set by ticking the 'Offer Services' box for each of his scripted AI actions

Question[edit]

Does training count towards leveling? If I buy 5 points of training in a major skill, am I 5 points closer to leveling? — Unsigned comment by 66.14.104.198 (talk)

Yes, and yes. Almost any type of skill increase in a major skill will count towards leveling: training, skill books, as well as good old practice. The only skill increases that will not count are the four free skill boosts that are implemented as permanent fortify skill abilities. --Nephele 22:47, 12 March 2007 (EDT)

Extra Trainers[edit]

should we include trainers that appear when the expansion packs are installed (Rowley Earluff, or whatever his last name is, over at Wawnet Inn, offers training in sneak. i'd add it myself, but i'm not sure how to do all the formatting. Lalanas 19:22, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

Yes, I think those people probably should be added (with a note that they're added by mods, like was done for Beem-Kiurz's entry under Restoration). I'd say if you're interested in doing it, give it a shot... do whatever you can, and if there are problems that come up or things you don't know just ask. Trying it yourself is often the best way to get the job done, because waiting for someone else to have the time could take a while :)
The easiest way to tackle it is to copy and paste an existing entry. For example, look for Beem-Kiurz's entry and copy the whole chunk starting at the line that reads |- and going to the next line that reads |- (six lines in all, the |- line marks the beginning of a new row of the table). Find a place where you want to add a new NPC, paste in the chunk and then change the info to match the new NPC's info. You can find a list of the mod NPCs at Oblivion:People#Official_Mods. Some of them have complete information on their pages, such as whether they train a skill and what their ID is... and more of that information is being added every day, so if you don't find it, check back a couple days later. Hopefully that's enough info to give you some idea of how to get started ;) If you have any questions, feel free to ask! --Nephele 23:26, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

Question again[edit]

On the trainers page it was a little vage and it says something to the line of 'once you have trained five skills you can no longer train untill your next level' and does this mean 5 points per level as in 'level 3-five points alchemy, level 4-five points alchemy' OR does it mean 'five points per skill level deviation such as 'five points sneak in levels 1-40, five points sneak in levels 41-70'? Thanks to whoever comtributes. — Unsigned comment by 68.102.228.59 (talk)

Seems pretty clear to me. You can only train 5 points each level. Level 1, train 5 points. Sleep and get to level 2 and train 5 points. Sleep again to level to 3 and train another five points. There is basically no difference between the basic and advanced trainers, except for the limit up to which they can train you. Vesna 12:45, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Mod to remove the 5 trains per level limit?[edit]

Is there a mod around that lets you train more than 5 times a level?

Also, if you get all your major skills to 100, you can't level anymore. Does this mean once this happens, you essentially won't be able to use trainers to increase your minor skills as well? — Unsigned comment by 124.191.82.29 (talk) on 22 March 2008

I'm wondering about the second question as well. Have my main skills maxed, but there are still some minor ones I don't feel like raising naturally (looking at you, Restoration). But there's a limit to five trainings per level. If I can't level up any more, does the cap get removed, or is it just an eternal barrier? --SolarEquinox 01:29, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
Once you can no longer level up you can't use the trainers any more. –RpehTCE 01:37, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
Bah. 's what I was afraid of. Thanks. --SolarEquinox 01:39, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
I hear that if you're using spells/"cursed" armor to purposefully inhibit certain skills from being maxed, that you can still train them to a specific degree. Is this true, or just unfounded speculation? CorinthMaxwell 01:12, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Rpeh is usually right, but im afraid i have to disagree with him, all my atrbs are 100 so if i try to level up, it wont let me, yet i can still use a trainer if i drain my skills and go to any trainer :) small technicality but thought i should point it out Mikeyboy52 15:08, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes, but only 5 times. Okay, I wasn't fully clear but it was in the context of the 5 trains per level question. rpeh •TCE 16:29, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Heh heh :D im starting to get a big ego.... its possible for me to train 10 more times, as i cant level right now (not enough major skill levels) i can actually train 10 times. 5 times before meditate message, 5 times after. also, the first note on the article needs to be changed, but i dont know how to word it. somethine along the lines of "You may train 5 times before "(whatever the message is)" is shown, and 5 times afterwords" Mikeyboy52 09:23, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Is there any way to reset the training limit perhaps through the console or, to go back to the original question, via mod? Reizl 16:16, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

() Even though this is old, I'll still reply here. You can have a mod that changes the Game Setting (Settings... in the CS) ITrainingSkills, which has a default of 5. Read about that here. It looks like Oblivion Script Extender also has a command called SetPCTrainingSessionUsed (see here) but I don't use OBSE so I can't vouch for it. --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 18:58, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Training[edit]

Is it possible for trainers to die while your asleep in there beds? Like the Master trainer for destruction Bralsa Andaren who likes to fire at deers --Umbacano 3:30 , 4 April 2008 (EDT)

I think most trainers who are located in an outside environment all have a chance of being engaged and killed by some form of hostile creature AzureSN 20:42, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
But I believe they won't if you're not in the same cell. It seems NPCs don't die (except when they're supposed to die like in quest and such) when you aren't. SwedishBerzerker at youtube.com 09:33, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Pranal died on me about 3 months ago on my gladiator, while i was in bravil. Mikeyboy52 15:24, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Um i know how to do that im a level 127 on my ps3 leave me a comment on my page and maybe i can help you --Assasin n00b154 17:08, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Related Quests-link on trainers[edit]

Just browsed through many of the advanced trainers, and it feels a bit odd, that they dont have the "Related Quest"-link on their page - as the master training quests wouldnt exist without them. Any reason for that? Krusty 18:16, 12 March 2009 (EDT)

So add the link. That's one of the purposes of the redesign project. –RpehTCE 01:52, 13 March 2009 (EDT)

I just noticed that most of the master training quest links on the advanced trainer pages are missing links in their descriptions. I would fix it myself but I don't know how. Everything I can find says that they should look right, but they don't. 208.107.131.126 06:02, 11 December 2009 (UTC) Okay, now they look right. 208.107.131.126 06:32, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

training and attributes[edit]

does training counts towards attributes bunuses when leveling up? — Unsigned comment by 217.132.118.197 (talk) at 09:38 on 13 July 2009 (UTC)

I would assume so, yes. --Elliot(T-C) 09:38, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
yes, it does, i have tested this many many times

Training to 200 using Degeneration[edit]

"This can be used to train your skills over 100, all the way up to 200; Drain Skill effects from two separate sources are required to make this free from 101-200[verification needed — Needs more careful checking]" I just tried this with Alchemy using Felen Relas as the trainer and am now sitting at 101 Alchemy. I'll test it further when I level my remaining skill's to 100, but if it worked for this, it should, in theory anyway, work for the rest. --KNDNayban 06:48, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

With this method i have 195 so far, all i need is the meditation thing to pop up, than i can get 200. used with acrobatics (not recommended unless you want to go to the moon) Mikeyboy52 14:45, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

just got 200 acrobatics because i realized i could train again (stupid me) Mikeyboy52 14:47, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

fortifying past 250 doesnt seem to have an effect though Mikeyboy52 09:31, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
So basically to go from 100 acrobatics to 200, I'd have to do this trick of drain skill for 20 levels, while NOT getting training in any other skill. Furthermore, is getting 200 acrobatics actually good/useful in battles and normal situations, or does it get in the way and you end up jumping way too high. — Unsigned comment by Dtmwerks (talkcontribs) at 12:53 on 16 April 2011

Notes placement[edit]

Aren't notes sections typically at the end of an article?--PJDEP 19:16, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

For this article, it makes more sense to put them first. I like the look better and more people who come to this page are wanting information on training rather than trainers.--Corevette789 19:37, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
But, than again, most people that can find this page are familiar with uesp, and therefore know if only looking for notes, they should check the bottom. just saying :P Mikeyboy52 14:27, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
but what happens to the people who aren't familiar with uesp?--GUM!!! 14:33, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

How does that look? Mikeyboy52 15:02, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Disappearing Weapons[edit]

I am arch-mage of the mages guild and I have been using the dresser at the end of the bed in the top of the tower to store good weapons I can't carry, but after a few days everything in the dresser except the clothes that were in there disappear. I tried to store weapons in my imperial city house and I got the same result. This is also the same with the benerus manor. I just got a house in Leyawin, but I don't want to try it out on a good weapon. I'm gonna test different spots with a rusty dagger, but if anyone else had this same problem and fixed it I'd like to know how.

Its not a problem. The dresser in the Arch Mage's quarters respawns every 3 days like many chests in the game. In houses this should not happen but Benerus Manor, when restored, will take all your items.--Corevette789 16:05, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
well the chest in the upsairs small room should not dissapear

wrong[edit]

The character statistics/skill menu shows how many times training has been purchased at the character's level (e.g., it will show 0/5 if no training has been purchased).

Isn't this note incorrect? There is no place I can find other than actually talking to a trainer to find how many times I have trained in a level. It is not listed in any of the character statistic or skill menus. — Unsigned comment by 124.183.103.56 (talk) at 02:43 on April 18, 2011

Can't do the master training in restoration...[edit]

I believe the person (in Cheydinal or Anvil?) who recommends me to the woman trainer at Kvatch camp, is dead because of the Night of the Nine quest. So is there an alternative from repeatedly healing myself or am I doomed to a few hours boredom of casting the same spell over and over again? Like painfully training Mysticism.

Let me know, Thanks UESP

Inability to learn[edit]

While i was writing this i figured out the problem but i just want to say it for other. If you can level up, level up, if you don't you will be unable to use trainers. 70.177.230.193 00:21, 15 August 2011 (UTC)Sean70.177.230.193 00:21, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I need to make sure I have the leveling scheme down, for training purposes, any help?[edit]

Uh, Question...Im not sure but it SEEMS as if this section doesn't clarify specifically at what level, when trained, or gained naturally, what skill goes from one to the next, It would be nice if there was a section to clarify it.

Ok update, From 0 to 24, you are in novice mode in any skill ,when you hit 25, save for a few exceptions ( which I haven't checked to see which ones they are ), you become an apprentice in whatever skill, Then from 25 to 49 you stay in apprentice mode until level 50 in any skill, and then at 50 you become a journeyman, and again, from 50 to 74 you stay in journeyman mode until 75, becomming an expert, than from 86 to 99 you stay in expert mode until hitting 100, successfully becomming a master.

0 - 24 you're a novice in any skill

25-49 apprentice

50-74 journeyman

75-99 expert

100 Master

But at the top, all you see is "basic" / "advanced" and so forth

So I'll simplify it by saying the following, and maybe this can help people understand the leveling process

Basic 0-40 includes Novice and Apprentice

Advanced 0-70 includes Novice, Apprentice, journeyman and expert.

At level 75, you're an expert in any skill you've chosen to develop, and only master trainers can train you once you're an expert,

right?, Or do I have it backwards or what?

The green box indicates Trainable in Novice, and Apprentice skills. The blue box indicates trainable in Novice, apprentice, and journeyman. The red box indicates that only a master can train you further ( because you're an expert?) — Unsigned comment by 24.63.171.231 (talk) at 10:26 on 10 December 2011

The reason you didn't see an explanation of the first half of your post is that it's in the instruction manual that comes with the game. As for the rest, you'll find it easier to make sense out of if you ignore the labels altogether. The lower-level trainers can train a skill up to a level of 40; the mid-level trainers can train up to 70, and the high-level trainers can only train you between skill levels 71 to 100, but will not train you before then. I'm not sure how the page can be made much clearer. Robin Hoodtalk 06:01, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Training with fortified skills[edit]

If you are an expert in the restoration skill and you wear an enchanted item, use a spell and/or drink a potion that fortifies your restoration skill and brings it to master, would you still be able to train with an expert restoration trainer? Cjesseg (talk) 20:25, 8 July 2014 (GMT)

UOP removed free training exploit[edit]

I'm a bit surprised this wasn't mentioned anywhere in the wiki (that I could find), given the relevant pages were last edited in 2019, but UOP includes an OBSE script that fixes the free training exploit. The script makes the trainers ignore the modified skill value when pricing their training, so 100 Drain spells don't allow for 0 gold training. I'm unsure which version of UOP first started including the OBSE script, but this reddit post makes it clear it has been that way since at least 2015. --170.81.152.133 04:48, 4 December 2019 (GMT)
