Private chambers hidden entrance location[edit]

can we get pictures of the secret enterances? especially the archery butt. its hard to understand where the guide points to with secret enterances — Unsigned comment by 203.26.16.66 (talk) at 05:56 on 29 January 2008‎

No, frankly. There are already enough pictures of Battlehorn Castle including maps that should make it fairly obvious how to get into the grotto. –RpehTCE 01:50, 29 January 2008 (EST)
What does it mean by 'pillar'? I can't find the hidden chamber anywhere in the private quarters. :( — Unsigned comment by 87.194.115.207 (talk) at 12:13 on 22 February 2008
The private quarters aren't relevant to this quest. The first switch is behind the archery butts. The movable pillar is at the far end of the room when you enter, on the left-hand wall. –RpehTCE 07:47, 22 February 2008 (EST)
The 'pillar' in question is on the southwest wall of the library section, on the right side of an alcove. It's one of the short ornamental pillars that looks to be about three or four feet tall. When your crosshairs are over it, it will be identified as a 'movable pillar.'FoolishOwl 20:03, 26 May 2008 (EDT)
What do you mean it's not relevant? The question is exactly relevant - you need to know the exact zone (Private chambers) and the exact area (the Library area), in order to solve the 1st part ('a Message from the past). Actually, it also doesn't hurt to keep in mind the quest item here (the Journal) is above the hero's eye level on the top shelf of the bookshelf, so one doesn't miss it.
Also, what kind of stance is this? 'No, you're not getting any images'. And who're you to say so? If the majority wants them, I guess it's images they get. I took screenshots, will submit an edit with them added after I figure out embedding images. As you see from the discussion page there are people wondering about the placement. I belong to the group, too - after I noticed the pillar-triggered entrance between the basement and the entrance hall, I swear I spent 10 mins approaching each wall recess with the same column and even some standing candleholders for a good measure, thinking one must get me to the grotto. Sure enough, I've missed the one in the Library. If it wasn't for the other guide, I would never have found it!
What kind of logic motivates you in your dismissing the OP's needs? Spoilers? This wiki (as all wikis, really) is spoilers galore. The section is literally called detailed walkthrough and the quest is on its separate page, so people know full well what they're getting themselves into. Plus, note the other wiki had zero qualms about the issue and went with the logical choice of a precise description - see here: [1] section 'More to do in the Castle'. Hi Piotr, this is an old discussion and our image hosting policy has changed a lot since 2008. Feel free to add the images requested by OP to the page, they sound useful. —Legoless (talk) 00:24, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

Dragon sword location[edit]

I did this quest and when I got to the end I killed the lich, took his key, and opened the chest to find that the dragon sword wasn't there. I remember I had done this before and had to re-load because I got stuck behind the bed in the master bedroom. This was on the 360.--Imperial Scum 19:38, 18 April 2008 (EDT)

The Dragon Sword is not found in the chest- it is wielded by Lord Kain's skeleton. Just kill the skeleton and you can grab the sword from the floor.--Willyhead/t 14:08, 27 May 2008 (EDT)

Secret room containers' safety[edit]

Are the containers/chests in the secret room in the bedchamber where you find the journal safe to store items in? — Unsigned comment by 67.87.149.208 (talk) on 21 December 2008

Yes, they all are. –RpehTCE 04:35, 22 December 2008 (EST)

Leveled?[edit]

The guide says the chest in the grotto is leveled, but I'm level 52 and all I got was 30 gold and an Iron Shield... I'm not really sure how the loot system works on Oblivion, so is the chest not actually leveled or is it and I just happened to get a crappy loot? — Unsigned comment by 98.28.159.122 (talk) at 21:27 on 22 July 2010 (UTC)

I'm new too, from what I've read and experienced in the game it works just as you'd expect it to, ie. the higher your hero's level, the greater the risk & rewards you're getting, so - stronger foes and better loot. I'm on lvl. 7 and got the same exact loot here so I'd say the article author was wrong and this chest isn't leveled. FIY As I leveled I've already noticed harder foes / better loot at the same locations (after respawn), so I know it works on my copy of the game.Piotr chylarecki (talk) 18:00, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
It could be a bug, some items from the DLCs are levelled to your character's level upon installation rather than upon entering the area. If you have the DLC enabled from the start of the game, such items will always be at the lowest level. —Legoless (talk) 00:26, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
