Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Having secured the Abyssal Pearl from your activities at the monastery in Shimmerene, Ritemaster Iachesis asks your help in determining the source of its magic. He may send a runner to find you, if you've left the tower. He sends you to find an elixir from his acolyte.

The Augury Ritual[edit]

With your assistance at the ritual, the Pearl rises from the pool and three blue silhouettes appear: the late Aldarch Tilcalar and two new faces. You witness a conversation from the past, which it seems must have occurred in the presence of the Pearl:

Aldarch Tilacar: "Here we stand, the most favored servants of Clavicus Vile, Mephala, and Nocturnal, on the verge of the greatest victory for our Princes!"
Nocturnal's Earl: "Are you sure those creatures can be trusted?"
Aldarch Tilacar: "Have no fear! Isn't that why we formed the Court of Bedlam? Besides, what happens next in Rellenthil will seal Summerset's fate!"

The Ritemaster is uncertain as to what the Court of Bedlam is, but he sends you to Rellenthil to track down the event to which the Court referred. When you arrive, after speaking with the Eye of the Queen, you speak with the local Canonreeve and discover that his son, Nedoril, is involved with a group of other young Altmer and that they are meeting in secret at a nearby sinkhole. Certain they are up to no good, you and Valsirenn head out to investigate.

The Sinkhole[edit]

If you approach the sinkhole from the west (the safest way to avoid falling into the large, open pit), you'll witness a glimmer of the same Golden Knight who was trying to reach you outside the monastery in Shimmerene. He is wielding Dawnbreaker and wearing Auroran armor, both hallmarks of Azura. Again, he disappears after only a few seconds.

Once inside, speak to Valsirenn to get started. A distraught youth will run out of the sinkhole, loudly complaining that someone was attacked. Valsirenn stays behind to shore up the walls and ceilings with magic, and then teleports away to explore the center of this disturbing and dangerous terrain while you deal with the Yaghra Larvae, Yaghra Spewers, Yaghra Striders, and Salamanders.

In the southern portion of the sinkhole you'll find Eldhon, moments before his death. He relates that Nedoril stabbed him for being unworthy. To the south, outside the borders of the map, you can see Nedoril; he announces that the Court of Bedlam will soon eradicate the "lesser races" and even the Queen herself.

Rejoining Valsirenn in the center of the sinkhole, she shows you the true, immediate threat:

"You see that, right? My eyes aren't playing tricks on me? That's a Sea Sload! They haven't been seen in Summerset since ... well, it's been centuries, at least!"
What's a Sea Sload?
"A vile and dangerous species. Very powerful. The Sea Sload come from the distant underwater kingdom of Ul'vor-Kus.
Who's that hooded figure with the Sload? And look. More of those abyssal pearls. They're everywhere!"
Why are the Sea Sload dangerous?
"The Sload are a godless people, perhaps the most hated in Tamriel. And the Sea Sload are even worse! They employ depraved magic and have long coveted Summerset. They believe it once belonged to them.
They pillage, release plagues. They're horrible!"
Does this have something to do with the Court of Bedlam?
"The hooded figure could be a member of this so-called Court of Bedlam. At this point, nothing would surprise me.
That Sload has me worried, though. I can't think of anything worse than an alliance between those foul beasts and Daedric cultists."
Could this be the source of the abyssal pearls?
"They could certainly have a connection to the Sea Sload's submerged kingdom, but they appear to have been placed down here. Look how the yaghra are drawn to them.
I'll head for the Sea Sload. You deal with those abyssal pearls!"

After hearing the Sea Sload name himself as K'Tora and leader of the Abyssal Cabal, you'll head out to destroy the Pearls. You won't be able to simply jump down from the ledge on which you're standing; you'll need to make your way down via the eastern tunnel. Once you're through it, you'll see a Pearl attended by Yaghra to the east, but you won't be able to reach it. Instead, keep moving north and west, where you'll be able to destroy two of the Pearls. Afterward, follow Valsirenn to the exit, defeating a Yaghra Monstrosity on the way out. If you jump across to the tall coral outcropping, the Monstrosity won't be able to reach you while you attack it from range.

After exiting the sinkhole, you'll speak with Raz and return to the Canonreeve's house, where Raz will mete out justice against Nedoril on behalf of the Queen. Return to Artaeum and speak with the Ritemaster to conclude this quest.

Notes[edit]

  • The name of this quest is an inverted reference to a passage in the Christian Bible, Matthew 13:45-46; instead of gladly offering up wealth to secure a desirable pearl, these Abyssal Pearls will cost the people of Summerset a high price in lives and security. This phrase was also used for one of the four books of the Mormon faith.

Objective: Use the Amplification Elixir
The augury ritual revealed the false Aldarch meeting with two other members of a Daedric cult that calls itself the Court of Bedlam. They mentioned plans for Rellenthil, a town in Summerset. I should discuss what we saw with the Ritemaster.
Objective: Talk to the Ritemaster
The Ritemaster suggested that Valsirenn and I travel to the town of Rellenthil in Summerset and talk to the Canonreeve. If anything unusual is going on there, the Canonreeve should be able to tell us about it.

Valsirenn appeared just ahead of me. She wants me to see something across the large cavern. I should talk to her.
Objective: Talk to Valsirenn
While Valsirenn attempts to reach the Sea Sload, I need to destroy the abyssal pearls before they attract more of those yaghra creatures.
