Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

The quest will point you to three cabins in the area. Two will require you to enter through a window; both of these houses contain a draugr and the corpse of either Kerthor Wood-Hewer or Agnedir Forestborne. The third cabin belongs to Selgaard's wife Jakild, who is alive and well. Once you have spoken to Jakild, head outside to talk to Selgaard once more. Inform him of the deaths of two of his family and he will tell you about a group of mysterious travellers who stopped by recently. Talking to him further reveals that these travellers were part of the Covenant, and that they headed into the nearby barrow.

Make your way to the Bonestrewn Barrow, which is surrounded by hostile draugr. Inside you'll find large amounts of draugr and skeevers before coming to the Covenant camp. Pressing forward, you'll find the body of Henri Marceau, along with his journal. Deeper into the barrow, you'll also find Ophelia's Journal, which informs you that the key to the next chamber is inside the journal itself. Upon closing the journal, however, you will be attacked by a now-undead Ophelia Ceirans. Defeat her and move forward to the next chamber, where you'll find Owen Pavelle inside a large cage.

Owen will tell you that he was part of an expedition investigating the barrow. If you accuse Owen of lying and then use the Intimidate dialogue option, he will confess to being part of the Covenant, but add that Valcent is operating outside of his orders. He will beg you not to touch the right switch; intimidating him again will reveal that the cage is sacrificial in nature and that the right switch will kill him. You then have a choice: pull the left switch or the right switch.

  1. Pull the right switch: a fire trap activates inside the cage, killing Owen.
  2. Pull the left switch: Owen thanks you for setting him free, then leaves.

Regardless of your choice, you can now proceed to the final chamber, where you'll find Sir Valcent Tailies, accompanied by two draugr. After defeating him, leave the barrow through the nearby exit, and return to Jakild's cabin to speak to Selgaard and complete the quest.

Notes[edit]

  • Choosing to kill or free Owen doesn't seem to have any effect on the remainder of the quest.

Notes
* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
