Dialogue[edit]

"A small army stands ready to attack to the north while we're waiting for a second army to flank us. Meanwhile, assassins creep through the fort.
These two weeds share a root beneath the surface."

In the cellar:

"Are the assassins now feeding the earth with their blood and bone?"
Don't worry. They're dead now. Were you attacked upstairs?
"I was ambushed. Warm-blood assassins do that. They hoped I wouldn't reach these tunnels and discover the roots of Ahknara's plan. They died with that hope unfulfilled."
What is she planning?
"You'll notice many Covenant troops about. I'd bet my birth-mud she's opened the reinforced cap that sealed these tunnels.
Clearly, she plans to lead an army into the fortress from below."
How do we stop an army?
"Long ago, this place was build to imprison Daedra.
See that floor plate below the door you came through? There are five of those. When they're all active, a barrier will rise and imprison those within."
Won't we be trapped inside?
"No, there's an exit to the surface behind the final plate.
I activated the first one. Activate three more on the way to the last chamber. Then meet me by the final plate."

Speaking to him after this engagement:

"Activate the first four plates in these tunnels and meet me in the last chamber. Go well, and go quietly."
Why are there Daedric ruins below Fort Arand?
"The fort was built on top of the ruins shortly after they were found. Reports of Daedra worshipers led General Arand to investigate the mountains above the fort. The general claims that when he found this place, a Daedric gate stood open down here."
Were they able to close the portal?
"No, but they did set up the barrier stones and built the fort. They did it to protect Stonefalls from anything that might crawl up from below."
Did anything crawl up from below?
"A few years back, the barriers were dropped and the gate was gone. No evidence proved it ever existed. Was Arand mad, believing he saw a gate that wasn't there? Did a Daedra emerge, leaving an open gate behind it? The land may know. You should ask."

By the last plate:

"Ahknara ambushed us. She used a flask of blinding light to stun us, then ran back through the door behind me.
Were you able to activate the plates?"
Yes.
"Good. I'll activate this last one. Once I do, the other barriers on all five will harden like a shell.
While I do this, you must slay Ahknara before she slither away again."
And leave you behind?
"Baem chased after Ahknara. He'll need your help more than I do. Look for him. I'm sure he's wounded, if not dead.
Once this is done, use the trapdoor atop the bluff. It leads to the command post below."

Speaking with him after this engagement:

"Through that door to the south, you'll find Ahknara.
See that she is fed to the land."

Speaking to him back inside the command post:

"Cracking through the husk of a fallen legend, your own tale will begin to grow tall and strong."
