High King Emeric wants the guillotine to be destroyed
A bloody conflict has erupted between the noble houses of Rivenspire and High King Emeric has asked me to go there on his authority and attempt to restore order.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to High King Emeric.
  2. Talk to Captain Ernele.
  3. Travel to Rivenspire and talk to Darien Gautier at Oldgate.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

After you have helped to save Stormhaven and its high king, Emeric will approach you with two requests: one of which he describes as a matter of the state, and the other of which he describes as being of a more personal nature. King Emeric wishes for you to travel to Rivenspire, where a bloody conflict has erupted between the noble houses, and to restore order to that troubled region. As for his personal request, he asks you to speak with Captain Ernele on your way out of Wayrest, to see to it that the guillotine that has been troubling him greatly is destroyed as swiftly and thoroughly as possible.

Before you leave his castle, you can speak with Emeric to gain a bit more insight in Rivenspire's current woes. He will tell you that he is in part to blame for the situation, as it was his choice to have three houses share rule of Rivenspire at the end of Ranser's War, against Maraya's advice. The choice was made to avoid another such conflict from occurring, but now Emeric seems to regret it, as it has led to strife within Rivenspire.

You can find Captain Ernele where you last saw him, namely at the guillotine at the town's market place. He'll congratulate you on your success with resolving the situation in Gavaudon and assure you that the efforts to dismantle the guillotine will be redoubled.

With the first task out of the way, it is time for you to move on to the second one, which consists of traveling to Rivenspire. The fastest way to get there from Wayrest is by using the town's wayshrine to travel to the one near Alcaire Castle, and then following the road to the North until you reach the gate to Rivenspire.

After heading through the gate, you'll soon bump into an old friend from Glenumbra, Darien Gautier. More precisely, you can find the Breton knight in Oldgate, where he welcomes newcomers with a dubious advertisement of what he seems to think are region's two most prominent features.

Darien Gautier: "Welcome to Stormhaven! Home of beautiful women and ugly war!"

Speak with him to tell him that Emeric has sent you to help resolve the situation in Rivenspire, and to complete this quest.

"What do we have here? I think I see a fellow lover of adventure, and I'm betting it's no accident that you're headed this way.
Am I right? Have Rivenspire's troubles become your troubles?"
Yes. King Emeric sent me to help restore order.
"Ha! Easier said than done, I'm afraid. But I'm glad to hear Emeric gives a damn. We thought maybe our dispatches weren't getting through.
I was about to walk to Wayrest myself, but you saved me that trouble. And I suspect you can help me further."

  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
