Iroda has riddles for you...
Iroda, a member of the Thane's household, proctors the Trial of the Mind. She's going to pose riddles to me. I need to seek out the answers to each on the island, then return to her.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Solve Iroda's three riddles.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

As you approach, Iroda will have her nose buried in a book, muttering to herself. Geirmund was a man misunderstood in his own day. Fascinating. She will be distracted when you speak to her.

Iroda: And that was the last time Geirmund was ever seen. Oh. Yes?

You: I'm here to do the Trial of the Mind.

Iroda: Ahh, yes. Like the Skalds of old, this will be a trial of riddles and rhymes. I tell you the riddle. The answer to each can be found around the island. You find it, place it in the sack, and bring it to me. Got it?

You: Go ahead.

Iroda: The first riddle, then: I hold your twin within my face; I whirl your world around. In me you see what others see; In me the truth is found.

You: I'll return with the answer.

Keema-ta calls out to you as you leave the tent. Difficult riddle, that one. You can speak to him; the quest marker points at him.

Keema-ta: I couldn't help overhear you speaking with Iroda. You're not the first hopeful to come down the river. Perhaps I know the answer. Perhaps I could share it with you?

You can intimidate Keema-ta, if you have the appropriate perk from the Fighters Guild. Otherwise:

You: What's it going to cost me?

Keema-ta: Oh, this is just the first riddle. My price is quite reasonable.

You: Fine. Here's your coin. (lose 65 gold)

Keema-ta: Pleasure doing business with you. The answer she seeks is a mirror. There are several hand mirrors around, but I know there's one inside the storage building by the water.

...and Keema-ta has answers

As the Argonian says, the first one is a hand mirror: Go to the paved road, take a right then a left and you'll see a barn. The mirror is inside on the left. Return to Iroda with it.

Iroda: Well, what do you say? What was the answer to my first riddle.

You: A mirror.

Iroda: Yes, yes. Well done, well done. Let's move on, then. Here's the second riddle: I float in the sky, I cover the land; I can carry your weight or slip through your hand

On your way our, Keema-ta whispers at you again: Guess who knows the answer to that riddle?

Keema-ta: Ah, back again. Answering riddle for Iroda. Want some help with this one?

You again have the option of intimidating him. Or:

You: How much is this answer going to cost me?

Keema-ta: Oh, the second riddle? A modest fee. Very modest.

You: Right, right. Here. (lose 324 gold)

Keema-ta: Ah, good to do business with a smart competitor. The answer she seeks is water. Dip that bag into the lake and return it to her.

Go to the lake and use the bag as prompted. Return to Iroda.

Iroda: One down, and you look confidant about the second riddle. What's the answer?

You: Water.

Iroda: Hah! You're doing better than most. Now for the final riddle: Where are the oceans dry, the mountains flat, and the sky can never be seen?

Keema-ta calls out to you again: You'll never figure that one out alone.

Keema-ta: This is it. Last one! What do you say? Going to try and puzzle it out yourself?

Again, intimidate or bribe.

You: How much will this impact my coinpurse?

Keema-ta: Oh, for the last riddle? I would expect you to be down a number of coins, yes?

You: Just take them. (lose 648 gold)

Keema-ta: Ah, such wisdom in your deeds. She wants you to find a map. There's one hanging on the wall in the pub. Thank you for doing business with me, Guardian.

Or

You: Tell me, or I'll see you clapped in irons.

Keema-ta: Ach! It's a map. She wants you to find a map. There's one on the wall of the drinking barn. May your scales dry and bugs nest in your loins!

Go to the paved road turn left and go to the building where you did the drinking contest. A map of Cyrodiil is on the wall. Return it to Iroda.

Iroda: Last one! What's the answer?

You: A map.

Iroda: Yes, that's it! Well done indeed. I'll pass the word to Vofknir at once. Now, if you'll excuse me.

This ends the quest. Iroda returns to her book. If you speak to her again, she is distracted. You did very well, yes. Very well. Hard work. Sorry, do you mind? This scroll needs translating. Such fascinating ink-work. If you speak to Keema-ta, he says: You're quite the clever one. Well done.

Notes
* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
