Wakolus

Wakolus is an old Naga warrior of the Dead-Water Tribe. He can be found watching and critiquing the spear practice of the neophyte warriors in the center of the village.

Dialogue[edit]

When he is first encountered, he is not at all impressed with the young who are practicing, blaming the recent egg quality.

"When I was a young spear-thrower, this square was filled with warriors. Now, the stream runs dry."
"I would raise the spine of aggression at these contemptuous hatchlings, but I do not want to frighten them. They would run into the swamp and sink into the mud or get eaten by a predator.
They are as fragile as the shells that spawned them."
"When I was young, hatchlings emerged from their shells with a spear in one hand and a sword in the other. Now? Well, see for yourself.
Not one of them will survive the Path."
"Look at this lot! Mewah-Jez tries, but how do you turn slugs into wamasu? Poor stances. Barely any coordination. No upper body strength. The swamp will eat them alive.
It must be the eggs. Our hatchlings just aren't as strong as they once were."

Once you have completed Death Among the Dead-Water, his opinion of the trainees has changed a lot.

"I remember when I walked the Path of the Lily. If Kishi is half the Naga his father is, these novices will have no problem acquiring the sacred flower."
"I cannot wait to see how Kishi's students handle the Path of the Lily. I already see vast improvements just watching them run through their training."
"Look at the way the novices thrust their spears! Kishi has already increased their confidence a hundredfold.
I pity the mudcrabs that get in their way when they go on their first hunt!"
"While Kishi and Mewah-Jez prepare the hatchlings for the Path of the Lily, the rest of us must do our part as well. We must double our efforts to produce new eggs to fill the nesting creches.
It is our civic duty!"
