Length[edit]

With the announcement of even more consumables being added to the Crown Store, the list of past and present offers already seems to be beyond reasonable length for a single article. I think it's worth discussing how we'll handle this going forward. One option would be to split the page up based on item category, e.g. Online:Crown Store/Costumes. We could also convert the lists into tables, to make them easily sortable by name/price and to cut down on TOC entries and page length. Alternatively, it might make more sense to simply list item names, price and current availability. This way we could display an {{Item Link}} or link to the relevant page and reduce information duplicity on the wiki. Any other suggestions? —Legoless (talk) 23:52, 13 April 2015 (GMT)

Heh, I had the same thought as you today. I'm working on putting it into tables in this sandbox right now, with a gallery beneath each category for the actual screenshots. This saves quite a bit of room and I think this will be good for a while. If it continues to grow this fast, then splitting it up into different pages might be a good idea, but I think at least the tables is good for the time being. ~ Alarra (talk) 05:07, 14 April 2015 (GMT)
The table and gallery design looks good. That setup would also make it easy to "grey-out" items that become unavailable for easy indication of what is currently available and what isn't. --Enodoc (talk) 09:51, 14 April 2015 (GMT)
Okay, done. Should I move these changes to the main Crown Store page? ~ Alarra (talk) 20:37, 14 April 2015 (GMT)
Sure, looks good to me! --Enodoc (talk) 17:32, 15 April 2015 (GMT)

Dates[edit]

With the threat of returning items and now these new console discrepancies, listing the item dates in any reasonable amount of space seems impossible. If we want to keep the data on the wiki, it might be better off on its own page at Online:Crown Store/History or something where we can keep a timeline of what gets added and removed on each platform. It's not a problem yet though, so I guess we'll see how this page looks once the console dates are added. —Legoless (talk) 16:48, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, I was naively thinking that Crown Store items would be released on the same day for each platform. Hopefully in the future they will be, once console release has settled down and patches start to align again. I had a show/hide setup planned for most instances, where only the most recent date is shown, but while they are only half available I thought it would be worth showing both dates. For example, when the consumables are removed from Console as well, I was planning on showing it like on the left. For an example of an item that keeps coming and going from the store, see right:

Promo Images[edit]

Might be worth retiring the older DLC promo images from this page now that they have a place on ON:DLC. With three of them it's already starting to take up a ton of space. —Legoless (talk) 01:23, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

I guess it depends on your screen size; we could try first of all just reducing the size of the old ones, but I agree that three at the current size takes up too much space. I was also considering making the ones on the DLC page part of the infobox so that they fill up the space there a bit better; what do you think? --Enodoc (talk) 09:07, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
The smaller size works well for now. As for filling up space on ON:DLC, we generally try to avoid having fixed thumbnail sizes two allow for smaller screen resolutions and users' personal preferences. I think they slot in nicely at the default 180px. If we put them inside the infobox, would the thumbnail scale to the table width or would it end up fixed? —Legoless (talk) 16:15, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
It would look something like this:

DLC Game Pack:
Orsinium
ON-icon-Orsinium.png
Price 030003000 Crowns
(Included with ESO Plus)
Released
PC/Mac 2015
Xbox One 2015
PS4 2015

Promo info
Ideally the image width would be set equal to the defined infobox width, but I'd forgotten infobox width is relative. --Enodoc (talk) 17:44, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
If the image is centred it doesn't look half bad. Not sure if the extra 20 pixels makes a huge difference but it seems fine to me. Aside from the fixed size the only thing we'd be missing out on is the 'Promo info' caption. —Legoless (talk) 17:57, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
I did a bit of research on image syntax and found a relative size parameter. It's relative to thumbnail rather than page width, but at least it's not fixed! I also centred it and put the caption underneath. --Enodoc (talk) 19:06, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
Looks good! —Legoless (talk) 19:51, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Mimic Stone Bundles[edit]

Should we not list the new motif bundles as separate Store items, like we did with the Starter Bundles? It'll lead to a lot of duplicates but it's important to distinguish between them due to consoles. —Legoless (talk) 12:01, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Consoles are getting the mimic stones too later this month, aren't they? I think maybe we should make a note saying that they're added to the motif bundles in Update 9, but I don't think they need to be separate. ~ Alarra (talk) 16:52, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
That's inconsistent with how we treated the Starter Pack though. At the very least I'd like to see the old motif + malachite bundle listed separately. Listing them all separately has the benefit of being able to accurately date the mimic stone introduction. —Legoless (talk) 02:20, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

() I've restored the malachite and laurel bundles, but only made a note of the changes to the other motifs rather than duplicating them. —Legoless (talk) 15:57, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Page Split[edit]

It's gotten to the stage where this page is painful to edit due to length. The table format and the hiding of delisted items has kept the article itself to a reasonable length, but with the incoming hairstyles and cyclical dye packs I imagine this page will balloon at an even faster rate. Might it be time to consider transcluding some of the larger sections? —Legoless (talk) 17:03, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, that would be good if we could work out a way to do it. As soon as we start moving things to subpages though, the way the /all list works will cease to function, so we'd have to come up with an alternative way to do that list. --Enodoc (talk) 11:55, 9 July 2016 (UTC)
Maybe just make a completely separate "archive" page and keep the current one as the live store page? ~ Alarra (talk) 12:51, 9 July 2016 (UTC)
I hate to suggest it, but it might be best to scrap the /all page in favour of archived subpages. If we keep them all on a single page it will eventually get too big to even view anyway, so we might as well bite the bullet if there's no easy transclusion solution. The only problem is that this would also break {{Crown Link}}, and maintaining functioning permanent links to Store entries is important. —Legoless (talk) 19:48, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

() OK, I think I have a plan for this. A three-stage plan:

  1. Templates
Transition each Crown Store entry into a template, one template call per entry (server load should be ok? The concept is the same as {{Online Skill Link}}, {{Book Normal}}, {{ESO Contraband Item}} and others, which all seem to work.)
  2. Subpages
One subpage per category to be the main storage location for the entries.
  3. LST
Use #lst to recreate the main Available and All lists, also to include easy provision for Limited Time items and items Coming Soon.

--Enodoc (talk) 22:28, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

That sounds like an ideal setup, as long as it doesn't run into the same server problems as the ON:Contraband lists. —Legoless (talk) 02:54, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Heh yeah, ideally not. I think the problem with the Contraband items was too many transclusions on one page. I think all those pages work now though, don't they? --Enodoc (talk) 10:12, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

() All done (and the /all list still works too). Let me know if anything appears to be broken. --Enodoc (talk) 12:23, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

Dyes[edit]

Is anyone able to keep track of this? The dyes have been the same since Update 11's release, but they're due to change in like two days and it's meant to be weekly. We need to identify the dyes and the icons for each before they disappear, but I'm not sure how best to do it aside from manually screencapping each. —Legoless (talk) 02:54, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Edit: The icons appear to be available from our item database, but it isn't capturing the descriptions properly so the dye names are still a problem. —Legoless (talk) 02:57, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

We'll have to do these slightly differently anyway; with weekly changes, the on/off dates will be crazy if they use the same format as other items. As for the dyes, the best we can do for now is try to make sure we're up to date when they appear, but hopefully Dave will work out a way to get them into the database in the long run. --Enodoc (talk) 10:12, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
The data logging has been fixed so there's no particular rush now. The dyes can be found in the database's PTS item section currently. —Legoless (talk) 16:38, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Galleries[edit]

Is there really any point to keeping the various galleries on this page? They're not up to date, and keeping them current is not really worth the effort, especially since this information is duplicated on Costumes, Mounts, and Pets. Given how long the page is even without these, I think it might make sense just to ditch these galleries altogether and move them to the respective collections pages if they're not already there. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:37, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Makes sense to me. Anything to help cut down on the bulk. —Legoless (talk) 21:36, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
Agreed. --Enodoc (talk) 22:37, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
I agree as well. Especially with how big it's getting, there's not much reason at this point to keep them on the page. ~ Alarra (talkcontribs) 21:46, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
