Redrawn Loading Screens[edit]

It might be work keeping the original loading screens in a separate gallery. After all, we have a beta screen that doesn't appear anymore. —Legoless (talk) 23:48, 12 March 2015 (GMT)

The way I did it was based on the focus of the image. If the focus remained the same, I uploaded a redrawn version; if the image was changed completely, I uploaded it as a new image. --Enodoc (talk) 23:55, 12 March 2015 (GMT)
I wasn't even aware that those completely different images replaced the old ones. I still feel like we ought to include all the old ones though, rather than cherry-picking the radically different ones. —Legoless (talk) 00:04, 13 March 2015 (GMT)
I just didn't think there was much point in keeping something like this in addition to this, or this as well as this. They're too similar to be worth it. --Enodoc (talk) 00:10, 13 March 2015 (GMT)
They're the same scene, but they look entirely redrawn to me. I can't see any good reason not to list them, both for completeness and as a curiosity. It's also inconsistent to only display a portion of the old graphics. I can reupload them if you don't wanna go through it. —Legoless (talk) 00:57, 13 March 2015 (GMT)
Sure, I guess that makes sense. What I'll do is reupload them with imagename (old).jpg so it's clear which ones they were replaced by, like we did with File:ON-mapicon-GroupInstance.png and File:ON-mapicon-PublicDungeon.png, thus keeping the distinction of it being the same images redrawn rather than totally new images. --Enodoc (talk) 22:21, 13 March 2015 (GMT)
Sounds good. If we want to distinguish them even more, it might be worth considering moving the old gallery onto a completely separate page. —Legoless (talk) 23:59, 13 March 2015 (GMT)

Random order[edit]

There's a comment explaining that the location loading screen text is in "random" order due to the IDs assigned internally. Do we really need to keep this in place still? It would make much more sense to divide the page up by alliance and zone, as other pages are. If something changes, you'd still know where to look for it, rather than just assuming it's in the same order as some arbitrary ID that is not visible in the game (at least normally, presumably there's a mod for that...) We should think about what's best and most logical for the viewers of this site, not what's easiest for the editors... — TheRealLurlock (talk) 15:33, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, zone would probably be more helpful. —Legoless (talk) 15:45, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Yeah that was me. If one new loading screen gets added, and they're not in the same order as in the data files, I was thinking it'll be very hard to find out what has been added. Now that I have WinMerge though it may not be so much of a problem. Please leave the ID number there though! What I had also thought of doing is putting the text next to the screens, like the Oblivion ones, but I'm not sure If that's a good idea. --Enodoc (talk) 17:22, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
You may have noticed I've been adding them to the location pages. With a small change to the template, that could be a saved variable, and we could do some loading/transclusion tricks to just grab the text from the location pages and display it here. It avoids duplicated information, but the downside is like most saved variables, when you edit the page and don't purge it, the pages which transclude it may fail to load the variable. Not sure if it's worth the hassle... — TheRealLurlock (talk) 19:15, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Definitely more pain that it's worth. If they ever start changing the loading screen text, it might be worth considering, but for now the duplication is probably fine. —Legoless (talk) 19:21, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Alright, I've put all of the text on their individual pages, with the exceptions of the red links still on the page. If anyone can resolve those, please do so. We can freely reorganize this page now. Didn't want to do it before because I'd have lost my place. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 22:59, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
Online:The Lightless Oubliette has kind of become a worst-case scenario in terms of layout and I have no idea what Aldcroft Cave is, but everything else has been added. The redlinks that remain probably ought to have their own pages. —Legoless (talk) 02:25, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
I think in the case of multiple loading screens for one location, they can be addressed when those pages are filled out more, as the text for a "sub-location" can be moved down to the section specifically on that area. The only thing I can think of for Aldcroft Cave is that cave in Lineage of Tooth and Claw, but when I did that quest (a long time ago), it didn't have a loading screen. --Enodoc (talk) 08:29, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
That's what I was thinking. Perhaps it's unused? —Legoless (talk) 12:42, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

() Quite a few pages seem to still be missing their text (Online:The Chill Hollow and below on this list). —Legoless (talk) 15:58, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

I added the ones that were missing. There were only a few. Jeancey (talk) 16:24, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

City of Ash[edit]

Anyone know why this location has two texts listed? The first one seems to be a general Valenwood-related one, not specific to the City of Ash. Not sure where this came from, but it looks like the only one with two different texts. Not sure how to handle that on the location page... — TheRealLurlock (talk) 19:15, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

A lot of Group Dungeons have two different versions, a Normal and a Veteran mode. Will a line break not suffice with the template? —Legoless (talk) 19:21, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Do they all have different loading screens for normal/vet? A closer examination of the list showed that Elden Root is on there twice as well. Didn't see any others, but then with them all out of order like this, it makes it that much harder to find duplicates. I'll try with a linebreak and see how that looks... — TheRealLurlock (talk) 19:40, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Crypt of Hearts has two different loading images, but I think the text is the same. The reason for the discrepancies is that Veteran CoA and CoH were added in content updates and had significant polishing, while the other Veteran dungeons came with release. I'm not seeing a duplicate Elden Root though, just Elden Hollow and Elden Root Outlaws Refuge. —Legoless (talk) 19:48, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Oh, you're right - I was confusing Elden Root and Elden Hollow. If there's any duplicates that aren't right next to eachother, it's harder to find them. I came up with a format for City of Ash. Not 100% thrilled with it, but may be no better way. Just wondering if there's any others we'll have to deal with, because I don't see them. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 19:51, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
There's definitely gonna be some overlap, such as Loriasel and Vision of the Hist. —Legoless (talk) 19:56, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Any duplicates I found, I put together. --Enodoc (talk) 20:39, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

Missing loading screens[edit]

Since the page said it's incomplete, I do have some loading screens that haven't been uploaded. The problem, however, is that I have no idea what the original file names are called (ie. ON-load-Something_Something).— Unsigned comment by 172.91.115.219 (talk)

So you can't find them in the Category:Online-Loading_Screens? Are you getting the files from esofiles.uesp.net or similar as I find people tend go with the filename as the basis for the uploaded file name.
For example the file, (loadscreen_palaceofkings_01.png) becomes ON-load-Palace of Kings.png. However place names in the final version may change from when the loadscreen file was created. Such as ON-load-Black Heights Cave.png, which is the loadscreen for the Passage of Dad'na Ghaten is still called loadscreen_blackheightscave_01.png.
It also might be the case that they have been uploaded but haven't been added to the Loading Screens page yet. I've had that happen a few times when I try upload a file only to be told it is a duplicate of something that has already been uploaded.--Talyyn (talk) 07:58, 9 March 2020 (GMT)

Split[edit]

I'm considering splitting this page like I did with Screenshots. There's a lot of scrolling to do, even with the Table of Contents, and I remember having loading issues when I attempted to access this page with my old laptop in the past.

We could have separate pages for the base game (which would contain sections for zone or Alliance-specific screens and generic delve screens that are used more than once), dungeons (with sections for the different dungeon DLCs) and prologue quests. All of the zone DLCs would be getting their own pages. I don't want to make any major changes to the formatting without saying something first. --MolagBallet (talk) 23:50, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

People on the official Discord are talking about how slow this page is, so I'm going to be making the split. --MolagBallet (talk) 20:36, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
NOTICE: I'm going to be moving location messages to their respective DLC pages as well. I'm putting this here because of the hidden note on the loading screen hub page, which reads as follows: Note: This seemingly-random order of messages is the same as the order in the data files, ID 70901198, to more easily identify changes. If you're doing maintenance on loading screen text, I'm leaving them in the order they're presumably in in the data files. -MolagBallet (talk) 22:14, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
If we can ensure all the location-specific messages are on the individual place pages, they probably don't need to be duplicated here at all, and we can just put the generic messages here. --Enodoc (talk) 15:21, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
