Why does the game call this a settlement? Even if it wasn't shattered to pieces, it would still be much more of a Ruin or even a weird type of Fort. It has none of the characteristics of a town or settlement, it doesn't even have separate sleeping quarters for the "residents". Just looking for others opinions, it really doesn't matter. Although, it would have been infinitely better if it was "rebuilt" after completing the related quest. Maybe NPCs insane from Xedilian could live there and run the armory as a store, the chapel as a chapel, etc, etc. --AlbinoMudcrab 18:15, 18 April 2007 (EDT)

I agree that it's more of a fort when you get there. I think it's a settlement because it's supposed to be trapped in time, and from the story line associated with it (and especially from reading The Fall of Vitharn) you get the idea that it was more like a city. It had a count, not a general, as I recall. I don't really see why it would be rebuilt. That's a lot of trouble to go to for something that doesn't in any way fit or relate to the story of freeing condemned spirits, and wouldn't really serve any purpose to the game. --67.110.213.253 03:09, 12 May 2007 (EDT)

Did anyone notice that there is a large grummite statue holding a child skeleton in Vitharn ? What does that mean ?

Likewise to the Grummite and Baby Skeleton - Mausoleum[edit]

Is there any signifigance to the beam of light connecting the Brasier in the Bailey to the Brasier in the Masoleum? Or any Signifigance to the preserved bodies of the Count and Countess. I expected that they would come forth proclaiming a new age, or some such.

There aren't any special scripts or anything like that on them, so I'm going to say "No". I know what you mean though - it's an oddity that makes you think there should be a better explanation. –RpehTCE 13:48, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
Is there a bug on my game or what? after completed the quest i was going to explore all the dungeon and i discovered the mausoleum door is locked and impossible to open without a key... but doesn't exist a key as far i know!!! why this? why i can't go in? -Federica from Italy- 84.223.19.36 23:18, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
It is mentioned here, in the notes-section of the quest page. The Vitharn page is "under construction" and the locked mausoleum is definately useful info, that will be added to that page asap. Krusty 23:29, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Vitharn Armory Key[edit]

Concerning the Vitharn Armory Key; checking various scripts I see that the only key reference is disabled after the Ghosts of Vitharn quest. The key doesn't start as Initially Disabled, so is it really true the key's only in Vitharn during the quest (and not before that)? --Timenn < talk > 10:54, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

Hmm, I don't think it's even possible to enter the Vitharn Keep without starting the quest, and because of that it might very well exist beforehand. Maybe it should read "disabled upon completion of the related quest" or something along those lines? It's definitely gone as soon as you complete the quest, so I'd consider it useful information to include on the page. Btw, how come that key isn't included on the Keys-page? Krusty 11:25, 14 June 2009 (EDT)
I think it's better if it was stated something in those lines. I believe you're right you cannot enter the Keep without the quest in progress, but with the rewording it no longer suggests it might. Oh, and I verified in-game whether the key was there before the quest starts, just to be sure.
The key is definitely on the Shivering:Keys page, but perhaps you're missing it since the link can't focus on the anchor because it's almost on the bottom of the page. --Timenn < talk > 15:14, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

Vitharn Exterior Enemy Count[edit]

I've been through the Exterior of Vitharn several times at level 42 and consistently found

5 Ghost Fanatics, 3 Ghost Fanatic Archers, 4 Vitharn Ghost Archers, 2 Vitharn Ghost Soldier

Can anyone confirm this if this is constant for all levels?

Bug: Althel's bow disappears[edit]

When I tried to collect some of Althel's arrows before completing the quest, her bow sometimes disappears as she dies. Instead of using the bow, she tries some hand-to-hand combat, which doesn't work out very well. This doesn't affect the quest from what I've seen, but it makes you unable to collect her unique arrows. Can anyone see why this happens? And maybe another work-around instead of having to reload a previous save? SwedishBerzerker at youtube.com 12:30, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, couldn't make it happen. As she respawns again and again, she always has her bow with her, at least in my game. Besides, her arrows appears to be perfectly normal steel arrows (just collected ten of them) - nothing unique there. Maybe you should load an earlier save and retrace your actions, so we can find out what's going on. Krusty 13:24, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, I know one more thing, and it's that I entered the Mausoleum before it happened. And I play on Xbox 360. And about the arrows, they are pretty unique since they glow like the "ghostly arrows" they are. But this has nothing to do with my question, the article already says they have a unique appearance. I guess it might have been a one-off bug then. Before the bug occured I did the following in this order: 1) killed all fanatics outside the fortress 2) went into the fortress and killed all fanatics on my way there in the cave 3) explored the fortress and took all ghostly items (arrows, betrothed, dagger) 4) talked to the Count 5) gave all soldiers their weapons, and gave the betrothed to a fanatic to tell the owner that a fanatic has his precious doll 6) entered the mausoleum, but took nothing except gold in the cabinets 7) went to the bailey again and collected Athel's arrows, one by one (she only fires one, which she misses before she dies) 8) after a few resurrections, Athel's bow was missing, however when I reloaded an earlier save (which I had saved as I was collecting arrows, so I had already done step 1-7), she didn't lose it. It only seems to happen occasionally when she dies. That's as much as I can recall, and I didn't get a key to steal the arrows from the merchant; I used the Skeleton Key if that matters SwedishBerzerker at youtube.com 15:03, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the description. Sounds pretty "innocent" to me. It might have been one-off bug, but I have a bad feeling about that Mausoleum. When I wrote all the ghosts' pages, I noticed that entering the Mausoleum made strange things happen on the battlefield (at one time, no ghosts would even spawn out there), so it might have something to do with that. However, I'm planning on going through the quest several times in order to remove some of the VN-tags on the page - and I'll keep an eye on Althel, just to see if she gets bugged in any way. Krusty 15:13, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Sounds great! Wait about 1-10 resurrections and it should happen, if it's all due to entering the Mausoleum. SwedishBerzerker at youtube.com 15:21, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Lucky chest?[edit]

I play on the 360 and have found things for the Museum of Oddities in the locked chest behind Count Cirion (after he first talks to you). On 5 different profiles, I have found the Dagger of Friendship three times, the Hound's Tooth Key once, and the Soul Tomato once. What I ask is this: Does the chest have a higher percentage of having one of the items in it? -- 01:00, 15 August 2009 (UTC)SH30G0R4TH

The answer is probably "no" but can you be more specific about the location please? –rpehTCE 13:30, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Ghost Fanatic Archers[edit]

Do they have unlimited supply of arrows? I was able to collect more than 150 fine madness arrows from one archer, by staying and blocking his attacks (unfortunately he died from reflect damage enchantment). Oxyk 00:25, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

... Reflect damage doesn't effect arrows... unless he ran out and attacked you with melee, your story doesn't hold up....Justeazy 20:07, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
yes, maybe it does not affect in vanilla oblivion. Can you be sure it's the same while using bunch of mods? The guy died from his arrows/bow damage. The point is in arrows, not in possibility of reflecting. If you will insist it's impossible i'll record a video. Oxyk 21:16, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Corpses[edit]

In the Tomb of count and countess ciron, are those two npcs? Skeletons? Zombies? Or is it just a container holding treasure?--Arch-Mage Matt 23:15, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

anwser this question[edit]

why was i invisible after i beat the quest? it like turned me into a ghost and i dont know how to cure it.

where is the key to the mausoleum?[edit]

I can't find the key. Is it gone when you finish the quest? — Unsigned comment by 83.109.74.239 (talk) on 16 April 2010

What key? There isn't one. rpeh •TCE 10:39, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

No Enemies?[edit]

On my game I beat the quest and I was in Cyrodill for 2 weeks and in siv isles for 2 weeks and no zealots respawned. Is this a bug or justa update or 360 only thing? I'm glad tho cuz I use as my home now 24.151.139.128 01:08, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

A bit late of a reply, but it looks that way, yes. At a quick glance in the Construction Set, it looks like all the hostile ghosts are disabled at the end of the quest. Robin Hoodtalk 20:18, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Years late I know, but I noticed something. The person at the top mentioned Zealots not respawning; I think he/she may have been referring to the Zealots that appear after the quest, not the ghosts before and during the quest, since the ghosts are all Fanatics, not Zealots. --Dragos Drakkar (talk) 21:26, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
And now that I have actually gone through it, it looks like there aren't any enemies spawning at all in Vitharn, not even after the quest was completed weeks ago. Containers in the area have respawned, but no enemies have ever appeared or reappared in the location unlike what the page says about enemies appearing after the related quest. --Dragos Drakkar (talk) 23:51, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

Cleanup?[edit]

Does this still need cleanup? I thought Krusty finished it?--TAOHuh? 20:12, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Me and Dlarsh finished the quest page - this place page definitely still needs cleanup. As a matter of fact, "cleanup" is too weak a word - "total redesign" fits better. ;) --Krusty 20:18, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Vitharn's Mausoleum and it's significance[edit]

First off, excellent site. The "Bugs" sections have been invaluable to me.

I noticed on the Vitharn page there is no mention of the Vitharn's Mausoleum's significance for the related quest. Though, it is possible to complete the quest without ever entering the Mausoleum, there are two 'back-up plans' that may be utilized within.

For instance, the doll you find can either be placed on a Fanatic or within the Brazier inside Vitharn's Mausoleum. Also, instead of discovering the hidden dagger for the Priest (and being stabbed with it - this doesn't really hurt you, but it made me wanna retaliate haha), you may also use a Welkynd Stone found within Vitharn's Mausoleum to be given to the Priest.— Unsigned comment by 174.101.27.130 (talk) on 24 January 2011

That is already discussed in detail on the quest page. --SerCenKing Talk 14:01, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Ah, I apologize. I see that, now. I wasn't on the actual quest page. *slaps forehead* I thought it was odd and checked again when I noticed it. Decided to come back here and try to edit it and you'd already replied! I got caught! Super quick reply there! ;) lol
