The Psijics have restored a single Unicorn to the world

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Go to the Arcanaeum and read Soran's Journal.
  2. Locate and tame the Unicorn just west of Lost Prospect Mine.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

First Named, Last Tamed[edit]

Upon installing the Wild Horses Creation, you will be directed to the Arcanaeum in the College of Winterhold to learn more about reports of a recent Unicorn sighting. Once there, you will find Soran's Journal sitting on Urag gro-Shub's desk. It details the research on Unicorns carried out by a wildlife scholar named Soran Hariksen, who sighted a Unicorn in the forests of the Rift. The creature is supposedly from the distant past and was brought forward in time by the Psijic Order after the last living Unicorn was sacrificed to Hircine during his quest in Oblivion.

Once you have read the journal, you will be directed to an area just west of the entrance to Lost Prospect Mine. The Unicorn can be found right next to the nearby pond. It is a wild horse and will run away from you if approached. It must be tamed, which is a mechanic added by the Creation. You must mount the Unicorn until it stops bucking in order to claim it as your own. You may be thrown off when it bucks, which will necessitate chasing it down again once you get back on your feet.

Reward[edit]

Once tamed, the Unicorn will become your mount. If you decide to switch to a different mount, it will make its way to the College of Winterhold courtyard and wait for you there.

Notes[edit]

  • Like other horses, the Unicorn can be named and saddled, which are two other mechanics added by this Creation. To do this, you must visit a stable with the Unicorn as your active mount.

Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
Notes
* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage ccBGSSSE034_UnicornQuest stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest ccBGSSSE034_UnicornQuest.
