Dead Man's Dread

Dead Man's Dread is an ancient ship located within the Grotto on Blackbone Isle. It is initially filled with undead, but can be claimed as a player home after completing the related quest.

Once you have claimed the ship as your own, a map inside can be used for instant transport to Solitude, Dawnstar, and Windhelm. You can also unlock the two other markers on the map to allow travel to Castle Volkihar (technically Icewater Jetty) and Raven Rock by first discovering these locations.

What you'll see first after entering the cave is a path to get onboard the ship. After getting onto the deck, at your left will be the entrance. First sight you have's a steering wheel. Both sides will take you downstairs. There's a Shrine of Arkay and in front of it, to your left will be a room with 2 beds and to your right is the child's room, where you can find a Scimitar. The front door will take you to a hall with several rooms and some downstairs. If you go to the hall, first room will have 4 beds and several items and books. The room spotted at the left wall is a smithing room, and there'll be an Anvil, a Tanning Rack, a Workbench and a Grindstone, also there are 4 Scimitars. Across the hall entrance, you can find an Arcane Enchanter, an Alchemy Lab and many soul gems and ingredients. Also there's another room inside this place with 2 more beds and another Scimitar.

Whether you go downstairs at the main hall or jump in the hole at the center of it, you'll see a tavern place, and deeper will be a storage for the tavern. Across the tavern is the captain's quarters with a single mannequin. There's a way left between the tavern and the captains' quarters, this path takes you to another room with 2 more beds. Finally, if you go right, you'll find the last room with 2 calabooses

Notes[edit]

  • The ship's cupboards contain unique clothing items added by this Creation.
  • Although Blackbone Isle has a map marker and can be fast travelled to from the mainland, you are required to take the boat back to Orphan's Tear to leave the island. This makes Dead Man's Dread particularly inconvenient as a player home, requiring three loading screens to reach via fast travel. The bandits at Orphan's Tear also respawn, meaning you will likely be attacked upon landing.

Bugs[edit]

  • The Ghostly Remains of the Ghost Sailors and Ghost Captain may not despawn and will instead remain on the deck. This happens when you read the Pirate's Note and return to Dead Man's Dread too soon to claim it as a home.
    • Wait for ten full days before reading the Pirate's Note and coming back to the island.
  • The cooking pot in the kitchen by the bar on the bottom deck is set the wrong way round; activating it results in the player being positioned inside the wall, and leaving it results in the player being pushed inside the prison room. ?
  • The weapon stand in the blacksmith's room, aside from the three Scimitars already attached to it, may not be interactable. ?
