Talsgar the Wanderer

Talsgar the Wanderer is a Nord bard wandering around Skyrim in search of adventure to write tales about. He can be randomly encountered in the wilderness and he often stops at inns to share his stories.

Although you can meet him all over Skyrim, and often quite joyful, Talsgar can also be encountered while defending himself from a couple of bandits, and may also be seen mining ore veins on the side of the road.

Talsgar wears a set of merchant clothes and a pair of boots, and is equipped with a leveled one-handed sword. He carries three random books, three random leveled potions and/or poisons of any type, and three samples of common-type ingredients. He knows the Alteration spell Stoneflesh, the Illusion spell Calm, and the Restoration spells Fast Healing and Lesser Ward.

Dialogue[edit]

When you approach him, he will joyfully greet you with:

"The life of adventure and song is the life for us, eh friend?"
"Ah, smell that fresh air? Truly, this is a good place to play a song."
"Hello there, friend. How lucky for you to chance upon a bard on the road."

If you are a member of the Bards College he will also say:

"Hello there fellow, traveler. One itinerant minstrel and wandering wastrel, at your service."

When spoken to:

Can I make a request? (25 gold)
"For a generous fellow traveler? But of course. What would you like to hear?"

If you don't have enough money he will tell you:

"Sorry friend, but it looks like you're a bit light in the purse, and the wayward minstrel can't afford to do free performances.
What are you doing out here?
"Why to perform for my common man, of course! Why should only the courts and inns of wealthy towns be given the gift of music?"
"Some may find their inspiration tucked away in tomes, or by carousing in the cities, but I find it here in the vast expanses of Skyrim."
"The best tales are those of adventure. Who could truly write such a tale without first experiencing such?"

If you meet him in the Reach he will once again change his response and point you towards some potential adventure at Bard's Leap Summit:

"I'm looking for a place called Bard's Leap. They say the echo of a song sung from there can be heard all the way in Solitude."
Can you teach me about Speechcraft?
"Ah. Well. After a little incident with a roguish lad and the daughter of a prominent Thane... Well, let's just say, best not."
"Afraid not. But if you're serious about sharpening that tongue, you might try the Bard's College in Solitude."

Bugs[edit]

  • He may attack you on sight after you have liberated the Reach for the Stormcloaks. After Solitude has been conquered and thus the civil war has ended, he may revert to his normal behavior.
  • If you encounter him fighting bandits in the wilderness, the bandits may persist indefinitely and never properly unload from the area when killed.
  • He may enter Honeyside from the back porch entrance and act such as a hired bard for a while, singing random songs for free, for unknown reasons.
