Directions[edit]

From Markarth, follow the road to the river and take the south fork towards Whiterun and Falkreath. Follow this road all the way down the river until you find yourself walking under a Fort high up on a cliff on your left. That's Fort Sungard. Directly south of Fort Sungard is a road-like path. Follow it and it will peter out shortly. Just keep on going south for a bit, past a small hunter's camp on your right. There will be several small ledges, go past them until you come to a multi-level one. Go due west at this point and you should go up a small rise and see the beginning of a path. Follow it to the mine.

If you turn too soon after the hunter's camp, you'll run into an unclimbable wall (even on horseback). Just work your way south and you'll get around it. — Unsigned comment by Susurruss (talkcontribs) at 07:42 on 30 January 2012

Ore on the ceiling[edit]

Sorry - don't see this in the first or second room. There are some wooden planks on the ceiling of the second room, similar in color to the orichalcum ore vein...--Beezer1029 (talk) 19:45, 19 February 2014 (GMT)

Completely agree. If there are nine veins in there, I'll eat my hat. Robert Cannelin (talk) 00:32, 10 October 2014 (GMT)
Would you like fries with that? :-) The very smallest and most often overlooked node is at the base of a wood post which is almost embedded into the east wall in the final mining area at the bottom of the ramp. The post appears to support a square of five planks in the ceiling. I know because I missed it too. Kalevala (talk) 16:11, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

Unofficial Orc stronghold then?[edit]

So yeah, the place is filled with Orcish buildings, Orc-bandits, and even has a rich mine. Even if it's not an official Orc stronghold, it should be added somewhere in the 'notes' or 'trivia' section that it pretty much resembles one.--87.255.89.160 10:08, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Granted there are some similarities, but every stockade of log pales with Orcs inside does not a stronghold make. It does not have a long house (residence), families, vendors, shaman, or chief. You are not granted or denied access based upon acceptance by the Orcs. The game itself marks it with a mine icon and not a stronghold icon. So perhaps we should defer to the creators of the game as to the criteria for what constitutes a stronghold, and decline to note the many similarities between things in the game on every page. I prefer to leave that task to the players rather than this wiki. Just a thought. Kalevala (talk) 14:41, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
