Killing him[edit]

Does anything happen if you kill him before you do Dampened Spirits? — Unsigned comment by Natsu (talkcontribs) at 09:48 on 29 April 2012

Seeing as he's essential, you can't kill him. The Silencer has spokenTalk 09:54, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Morrowind Reference[edit]

How has no one noticed that he's almost a dead ringer for Caius Cosades from Balmora in Morrowind? Ineedbettername (talk) 07:27, 26 January 2013 (GMT)

Yeah, I thought of that when I first saw him in the Thieve's Guild quest. They're both balding Imperial governmental types with the same name and penchants for intoxicating substances. I doubt it's just a coincidence, but I don't know if it's a certain enough relation to warrant an article note. Noblaum (talk) 07:10, 2 December 2013 (GMT)
All the mentioned traits are traits that in real life tends to run in generations, and could so indicate relations, but as nothing more is indicated in the games, it could just as well be coincidences, just like in real life, and as such not worth mentioning. —MortenOSlash (talk) 06:00, 3 December 2013 (GMT)
Caius is an archaic spelling of Gaius, a Latin praenomen, forename. They need not be related. — Unsigned comment by 81.231.143.37 (talk) at 21:09 on 19 May 2018

After Stormcloaks[edit]

What becomes of Caius after the Stormcloaks take over? Does he disappear from the game, or move elsewhere?--149.160.118.51 00:06, 23 May 2013 (GMT)

No, he doesn't disappear. When Whiterun is taken over by the Stormcloaks, he will move to the Blue Palace along with Balgruuf, Proventus, and Irileth. He, along with Balgruuf and any of the other Jarls that have been displaced from their cities, will be found in a room in the basement of the Blue Palace, simply wandering around all day and night. Caius dissapears[edit]

In my two games Caius dissapeared entirely from the game around the time of Dampened Spirits quest. I was able to summon him using moveto player command but only after using recycleactor which proves that he was nowhere in game. However this Caius is apparently bugged since he sleeps in guard barracks all the time, even at daytime. What's more strange I found second Caius who was going from Meadery, despite it been long since related quest, then he was just standing near the carriage. When I was disabling him I have noticed that he has ID startin with ff which I think is unusual for that kind of character. Woyr (talk) 19:21, 12 April 2015 (GMT)

Since you are using console commands, I guess you are playing pc. Do you have or have had mods or unofficial patches installed? —MortenOSlash (talk) 20:48, 12 April 2015 (GMT)
I have only unofficial patch but he was gone from the game even when I was playing without anything. Woyr (talk) 12:28, 13 April 2015 (GMT)
Then I guess it would be well worth a bug note. Do you feel like adding it yourself? (You can copy the syntax from other pages if you have not done it before. Just remember you can not confirm your own bug notes. That has to be left to a second user.) —MortenOSlash (talk) 17:39, 13 April 2015 (GMT)
I also wonders if this is really a bug or he shouldn't appear at all after the mision and there are information about this in his or quest article.
He may have died from drinking poisoned mead what may explain why I summoned by commands he will act as before as he shouldn't have been in game at the time. Also I guess that since I encountered second Caius with different ID there must be at least two versions of him in game, which mean that most likely Caius appearing in Dampened Spirits quest is in fact different character in terms of game mechanics, this can be easy checked but I don't have saved game with or near this quest. And then It would be almost imposibble to him to dissapear from bug if he is in fact not present in the quest, so he might be not present for a reason, I don't now if he is disappears in every game but I did this quest two times and both he was in game, even when I played with unofficial patch, so maybe it's no bug and it should be noted that he dissappears from the game after the quest. Woyr (talk) 19:18, 14 April 2015 (GMT)
Good point. It might be just as well to wait for others to see into it, and leave it as a talk page comment until then. —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:36, 14 April 2015 (GMT)

Caius won't be sent to Blue Palace if Stormcloaks take over[edit]

Someone undid my talk page discussion, which is ridiculous. I always thought no one should undo talk page unless it is irrelevant. In this case it is relevant to this page.

I played the vanilla Skyrim without mods, not even unofficial patches. I did the Dampened Spirits quest before Civil War quests. After Stormcloaks took over Solitude (Civil War ending), Caius is no way seen in the game anymore, probably disabled by the game, just like Commander Aldis is disabled. Actually he disappears after the Stormcloaks take over Whiterun. In Blue Palace basement only Jarls, Jarls' stewards, Jarls' housecarls, Joric and Idgrod (2 children) are relocated there. No city commanders are originally there in the vanilla game.

Someone needs to check their vanilla game carefully before writing something that is not there in the front page. By the way, I actually sign the pose with 5 tildes in the original post, which is allowed. (20:36, 4 April 2018 (UTC)) — Unsigned comment by 175.140.207.74 (talk) at 20:37 on 4 April 2018 (UTC)

I am the same guy as above. Do you need proof? Someone made a youtube video showing no Caius in Blue Palace basement. Just search the internet with "imperial pitty party" or search "youtube watch?v=tntSLNZmtdY". 21:45, 4 April 2018 (UTC) — Unsigned comment by 115.132.99.225 (talk) at 21:45 on 4 April 2018 (UTC)
Same guy as above again. I think I figure out what happens after reading the discussion by User Woyr. I don't actually know exactly when he is disabled, after Whiterun taken over or after Dampened Spirits quest. The only thing I know for sure is that he is not there in Blue Palace basement after the Civil war quests, and I did Dampened Spirits before I did any of the Civil War quests. I didn't use any mod. I didn't use unofficial patches.
So based on what User Woyr said, if you do Dampened Spirits before the Civil War quest, especially the Whiterun taken over quest, he will disappear. He could be originally intended by the developers to be disabled after that quest. If you do Battle for Whiterun quest first before Dampened Spirits, he could be relocated to Blue Palace, like the front page stated. This is a bug as he is no longer needed since Sinmir will take over him for that quest. Or maybe he is there in Blue Palace because of unofficial patch?
Anyway, that is all I can say. 22:44, 4 April 2018 (UTC) — Unsigned comment by 175.138.235.197 (talk) at 22:44 on 4 April 2018 (UTC)
