Hadvar Not Responding Properly[edit]

is anyone else experience this problem? you have to talk to hadvar after the fight against the stormcloaks, but he just say some random lines. i waited and fast traveled back to hadvar but nothing happens, even reload doesn't work :/ --Pfatzer 13:09, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

That threw me off as well. If you Activate/press E on Hadvar once after he speaks of his own accord, he should say a few lines regarding getting back to the Rift Imperial Camp, but he says these lines without engaging the player, so to speak. There's no apparent bug, I think. For me, after hearing him mention getting back to camp and that you and him make a good team, your screen should show a text pop-up that the quest is completed. From there, your quest marker should point to Rift Imperial Camp. I'm sorry for the late reply but I've never before looked at a Discussion for a given quest page. I hope this information will prove useful to you even now. --Scozz 10:42, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
That isn't how its working for me. Hadvar has not once mentioned the Rift Imperial Camp. I just get the same generic speech each time. I have fast traveled. I've turned the PS3 off then back on. I have attacked him. I have shouted him. And its always the same text every time. No updates on the quest. I read what you said and went ot the Rift camp and talked to the Leget. Still nothing. If ANYONE has any info on how to fix this I would also greatly love to know, because I have been searching and I have found nothing. — Unsigned comment by 12.188.125.77 (talk) at 20:53 on 29 December 2011
I have this problem too. He would not stop saying random stuff. So i tried going mack to the camp and talk to Rikka, and that did not work. I was also not able to load far enough to redo the quest. I am playing on the 360, so i cannot use the the command stuff. What do i do? I attacked Hadvar, and that did not work. I really want to finish this quest. I have done this quest several times before and this has never happend.99.197.197.242 01:04, 20 April 2014 (GMT)
I have also had this problem but was able to solve it by leaving the area and doing some other quests. Hope this helps! Kzljr1 (talk) 16:26, 20 April 2014 (GMT)

Can't get the dialogue to confront Anuriel with letter.[edit]

When I try to speak to her, there is no option to confront anuriel with the letter. What do I do?Cowleyj 20:48, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Have you already stolen the letter? When it's already in your inventory, try speaking to her. She should have you follow her to her room and you can confront her there. If the letter's already in your inventory, and she's already told you to follow her, I'm not sure what the problem might be. ABCface 06:50, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
I've stolen the letter, but I don't have a dialogue option to show it to her (the dialogue option that would normally lead her to asking my guy to follow her doesn't show up)— Unsigned comment by Cowleyj (talkcontribs) at 10:49 on 4 June 2012
Just to confirm: You do have the letter in your inventory, marked as stolen? Anuriel is sitting next to the Jarl? What happens when you "point" at her? Are you out of sneak mode? Does she see you? Have you tried re-loading from an earlier save and repeating it? Finally, what platform are you playing on, and version number? --JRTalk E-mail 10:18, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
it is on PS3, with the newest patch (on PS3 the patch is called 2.04 but it's the same as patch 1.5 on PC I believe). The letter is in my inventory, I think it's marked as stolen. When I go up to anuriel when she is sitting next to the Jarl, and enter dialogue, there are only three dialogue options, along the lines of "what do you do?", "what's the thieves' guild?" and something about corruption. i.e. there is no option to say to her "hey! Here's an incriminating letter!"Cowleyj 14:46, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

() OK. Well, sorry I don't have any answer for you. Everything prior to taking the letter went as written on the page? You got the quest from Rikke at Rift Imperial Camp, the quest activated, etc? It all went exactly as written for me. Let's see if anyone else has the problem. It seems fairly important to try to get it resolved, since I think you cannot go on and complete the civil war questline, at least not in the way you have been going. Do you have any saved games before you started this quest, so you can try again? Otherwise, let us know what happens. --JRTalk E-mail 15:13, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Attacked in a Camp[edit]

In the Winterhold Imperial Camp, I had killed an Imperial Wounded while hidden, and I was detected right after I fired the arrow. I was attacked by the entire camp (excluding Legate Rikke) and I dispatched them all. I went on to speak to the Legate, and I went onto the mission of freeing the prisoners. After I had overtaken the camp, Hadvar was constantly hostile towards me, and I could not speak to him to finish the quest, any help or similar situations?

Ummm... Well, no, the Imperials have a hidden crime faction and you just got a thousand gold bounty on it. You need to either use console commands to erase that bounty or restart from before the point where you decided to murderize the wounded soldier. ;-) 174.28.237.24 17:24, 25 October 2019 (GMT)

Early Promotion[edit]

On this quest right before speaking to Hadvar for the first time (in this quest) the Imperial Soldiers with Hadvar are already calling me Tribune. Funny, since I won't get my promotion until AFTER I land a wagon of gold and weapons.Vainamoinen -Talk -Stuff 04:26, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Double jeopardy?[edit]

Just completed this quest on Xbox, so no mods, and there were 2 copies of the Incriminating Letter inside the dresser. I didn't want to screw up the quest so I didn't pick up the second one to investigate but it was listed identically in the menu when I opened the dresser. Is this a known bug? 73.173.119.137 14:56, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

It apparently sometimes spawns twice, yes. This has happened to me a few times. And more, sometimes only one actually triggers the next stage (blackmail Anuriel). A minor bug, but there it is. The solution is to just grab both from the dresser, you don't even need to read them to advance the quest, you just need to HAVE them.174.28.237.24 17:21, 25 October 2019 (GMT)

Ambush the Rebels[edit]

The third paragraph in this section mostly describes how Hadvar won't execute the plan to kill the sentry and recommends how the player may work around this. However, I just played this mission and Hadvar successfully executed the plan to kill the sentry exactly as he described.

The penultimate paragraph in this section is mostly about how to find an iron ore vein nearby. The detailed instructions on how to find the vein don't seem particularly relevant to the subject of the article, and an iron ore vein doesn't seem like a particularly notable or valuable thing to merit such digression. 73.65.56.235 02:48, 26 December 2022 (UTC)
