Words of Power and You! How to Dragonsoul Like a Pro

Several people keep asking this on the discussion page and it's been answered many times so stop asking. Your salvation is here!
How do I unlock the Word of Power for a Shout?

First, kill a dragon (if you have previously killed a dragon you only need to do this once per Word). Go to your menu that shows Magic, Items, Skills, and Map. Select Magic and then go to Shouts. Go to the specific Shout that has a Word you wish to unlock. Look on the bottom of your screen, there will be a message there telling you which button to push to spend a Dragonsoul to unlock the Word.

If I complete the main quest will I be able to unlock more Words of Power?

YES!

Is there a limited number of Dragon Souls available in the game?

NO!

How do I use a Dragonsoul once I've absorbed it?

I redirect you to the first question above regarding Words of Power and Shouts.

Do I need to absorb the soul of a specific dragon to unlock a specific word?

NO!

You can still unlock more Words of Power after completing the main quest.— Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 09:49, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

That's... kinda... exactly how it's worded in the second question. Thank you, you have just shown me that no one will read it anyway.Sulhir 09:52, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
What? it says unable. Thats incorrect you can still unlock them. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 09:54, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
At 3am YES clearly means NO. Also, next time just change either "unable" to "able" or "yes" to "no".Sulhir 09:59, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Mistake

I don't want to upset people by changing a lot of things with little evidence, but I'm fairly certain it's Strun Bah Qo. It's definately not Ao. --Chris 111 chris— Unsigned comment by 85.138.196.6 (talk) at 22:56 on 17 October 2011

good catch. I just looked at it for about five minutes and you're definately right. Halfstache 23:04, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out. Turns out there was a previous discussion about A vs Q, but it never propagated to the Dragon Language article. --NepheleTalk 23:28, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

No pronunciation guide?

I came here to look up how to say the shouts... but I find there's no pronunciation guide. Could a column be added to accomodate that? --MadCat221 16:01, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Probably yes, but we'll have to wait until the game comes out, otherwise it is just speculation. For example, unrelenting force is pronounced "Fuss.....RowDa" but if you only use the first word it is pronounced as "fuus". RIM 17:05, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion. Pronunciations have been added. --NepheleTalk 00:08, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
if possible I would like to add audio recordings, would anyone know if the wiki software supports it, and if so, how to go about adding them? Vaag256 00:52, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Non-usable shouts

Would it be worth the effort to add shouts of historical significance? Obviously, the Tongues and shouts are of great significance to the Nords, and I would assume a great deal of detail will be revealed on them through-out Skyrim. In addition to whatever is learned in Skyrim, there must certainly be other examples in the existing lore (such as Lore:Five Songs of King Wulfharth). Should these be incorporated here, or should this information be added to Lore:Thu'um? 156.26.220.169 02:11, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Definitely not here - it's for Skyrim info only. It's worth adding to the Lore page though. rpeh •TCE 08:11, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Walls correspond to shout, not word?

I just noticed that for at least one wall, I got a different word to what's listed here, but from the same shout. I'm guessing that you get the words to the shouts in order, no matter what order you visit the walls. Can anyone confirm that? — Unsigned comment by 60.242.5.74 (talk) at 13:24 on November 12, 2011

It would make sense, I was about to note down a Disarm location when I noticed it was already in but on the last word instead of the first. — Unsigned comment by 92.239.152.85 (talk) at 21:02 on November 12, 2011
It seems to me, that this is correct. For example I didn't get the word "kill" from the dark brotherhood, but from a wall near a tower (got the location from a message, delievered by courier). --Irian 14:58, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I just got the Sand shout from Labyrinthian. I think it just gives you whatever one is next. Perhaps this table needs to be changed to reflect that. elliot (talk) 18:04, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
I'd do it, but the formatting is killing me. I can't figure out how to size the columns without screwing up the first sub-row for each shout (i.e. the italicized bit that gives the in-game description of the shout). TennysonXII 10:56, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Ditto - Got Elemental Fury 1st word from North Shriekwind Bastion. I don't remember for sure which word highlighted but I think it was the last. ---- (Phil 13 Nov 2011) — Unsigned comment by 174.102.140.128 (talk) at 22:18 on November 13, 2011
I'd just like to second the idea of making two columns; one for all the Word Wall locations, and then a completely seperate one for the order in which shouts are recieved. I know for me, I recieved Unrelenting Force first, then Whirlwind Sprint, followed by Fire Breath, Ice Form, Frost Breath, and then Kyne's Peace, all found in different locations then other people have mentioned.

The Lost 02:43, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

I have been investigating this with multiple play throughs. It appears that the locations are tied to a particular shout but the words displayed (and by extension, the passage displayed) change to fit the next word you need to learn of that shout. Hence, when you go to a location there can be one of three words in one of three passages. This leads to another organization problem in addition to the already listed ones; namely, where should the contents of the walls and their translations be put. They can no longer be put under the pages of the locations. We have to decide whether they should go with the shouts or on the word wall page. Coronus 05:48, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

More Locations

I have a couple of word walls that aren't on the list, except I can't remember exactly which word went with which wall. I thought I'd put them in here so other's can maybe use the info to work out which is which. The locations are Dragontooth Crater and Statue to Meridia and the shouts are Elemental Fury and Ice Form. — Unsigned comment by 60.242.5.74 (talk) at 13:24 on November 12, 2011

Hmm... that could explain much. I have all words of Fire Breath, but I've never visited Sunderstone George to complete it (but I don't remember the 3 locations either...). When I visited Sunderstone George the first time (Fire Breath already completed), I noticed that the word wall is bugged. The music indicating a new word wall is playing, but I can't get the word from the wall. There are 2 texts on the wall written over each other with one word glowing inconspicuously in a grey-blue shade. There are also no particle effects when I try to get the word. Has anyone noticed something similar? --195.202.166.190 23:56, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
- I have also had this problem and I have not been able to get the word or discover a fix. Hopefully a patch comes out, or someone comes up with an answer to this problem — Unsigned comment by 50.83.212.54 (talk) at 15:49 on December 12, 2011

Kyne's peace superfluous?

Is it just me or does Kyne's peace seem a bit superfluous. When travelling to High Hrothgar, you gain this ability (forgot the name, but I can look it up) if you read all ten of the tablets telling the story about the Voice, scattered along the road. "Animals will not attack you or flee from you" is the description. Or is there a difference between this permanent ability and the Shout. The ability wirks fine on wolves, but not sabre cats for example. Any ideas on this? --212.35.121.10 10:17, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Kyne's Peace works on sabre cats, although that tablet ability does make Kyne's peace less useful. I thought I had missed a tablet on the way up, but that passive ability sounds like something I don't want, unless it's just a temporary effect. Chris3145 14:26, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
You can still attack the animals, and then they'll attack you too. Or if you attack a deer or elk they'll still flee. As far as I know it's not temporary.--Greg 16:34, 16 November 2011 (UTC) (and sorry for the first entry, but I forgot to login first)
It takes a good while, but the blessing from the tablets does wear off. Kyne's Peace saved me bunches against very dangerous animals as a mage. For the sake of addition, I received a word of Storm Call in Skuldafn.--174.252.98.129 11:18, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
I believe the effect, called Voice of the Sky, works like a shrine blessing. it seems to last 8 real-time hours.71.201.39.119 05:22, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Storm IIRC, but as for the draconic inscription shown I don't know. It was my first learned word of Storm Call if that helps. — Unsigned comment by 174.252.99.151 (talk) at 22:52 on November 19, 2011

Specific Effects

Perhaps a column with the specific effects would be nice? For example: What damage does the Frost Breath 1, 2, 3 do? What advantage has Whirlwind sprint 3 over 1? At the moment, the only information is the ingame description, but no values. --Irian 11:29, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

I had the same thought, but Chris3145 said he is making pages for all the shouts so that information will be there. Babytoke 09:56, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Elemental Fury bugged?

The Elemental Fury shout does not work with enchanted weapons. Is this meant to be like this? It seems like a bug to me. It seems bizarre to me that the devs would put a shout in the game that is going to do nothing the vast majority of the time, since most of the time one would prefer an enchanted weapon to a non-enchanted weapon. I mean, if part of the point of this shout is that you have to use a downgraded weapon to use it, it seems worthless when you have so many other shouts to choose from. It just seems more likely that this is a bug, like they made shout work similar to an enchant in the programming, but neglected the fact that enchanted weapons can't be enchanted. But maybe someone else has some insights? Kronos o 01:25, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

I use it sometimes. At this stage of the game (my orc is level 44) my primary weapon is a daedric war axe enchanted with Absorb Health. But there are some enemies who aren't worth using up charges on the axe, and others (dwemer constructs) against whom the enchantment doesn't work. In those cases I'll switch to an ebony war ax I tote around and use elemental fury to speed it up. --QuillanTalk 19:21, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
My level 43 dual wielding dark elf blacksmith kills stuff faster with this shout + an unenchanted weapon than any other combination of shout/enchanted weapon in the game. For enchanters perhaps you can make a weapon with a large enough enchant to outweigh the dps increase, but for nonenchanters this shout is pretty awesome. — Unsigned comment by 87.198.45.196 (talk) at 13:02 on November 26, 2011
But you won't have the damage increase you would have with a fire enchantment. For example the 'fiery soul trap' enchantment gives x seconds of soultrap and (because of a glitch) 10 points of fire damage. This effect is actually cheaper than regular soul trap so even a character with an enchanting of 15 can benefit from this. Can you use this shout when dual wielding one enchanted and one non-enchanted weapon? Because that would allow an even greater increase in damage output. (Sorry for not signing, but I haven't figured out yet how to do that) — Unsigned comment by 94.208.42.39 (talk) at 11:21 on December 3, 2011

Unlocking the Word of Power

Perhaps it would be nice to mention, if a specific dragon soul is needed for unlocking a specific word of power. Or any kind of killed dragon could unlock certain word of power? How is it? — Unsigned comment by Absent (talkcontribs) at 12:28 on November 21, 2011

any soul will do as long as you have the word. (Eddie The Head 12:32, 21 November 2011 (UTC))
I am not too far in the quest line (I just got the first fire breath word) however, I have learned other words in my wanderings and killed a few dragons but the souls never unlocked the words for use, any idea why? — Unsigned comment by 71.232.84.65 (talk) at 05:20 on November 22, 2011
The souls don't unlock. You unlock by using the souls. The menu interface should tell you how to do that. 81.233.217.129 08:10, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Animal Allegiance

Possibly note-able: using Animal Allegiance on something (like a mammoth) counts as an attack action to followers. If they attack the animal they can be killed by it, because it is under your spell/power. --Aphotic Phoenix 08:38, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Using Dragonsouls

I added where you can find gathered dragon souls. It was removed again. I still think I'm not the only one missing it. I looked here first. Found nothing. I already had 8 dragon souls and was starting to wonder why my shouts don't become more powerful. I'm clearly not the only one. I found a "solution" in a youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVsbzKf5gyg

Maybe we should place it at another section/ use a different wording. "You can do this in the magic menu" clearly sounds obvious. But it's not. — Unsigned comment by 145.253.85.54 (talk) at 14:40 on November 24, 2011

The Fire Within

I changed "The Fire Within" to redirect here, it's a 25% bonus to Fire breath's power that is unlocked by using the shout enough. I don't know where to add it to the page or the amount of times you need to use the shout to unlock it, but I know it should redirect here rather than Standing Stones.Jo'ker 03:02, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

That's not how it's unlocked. It's one of the bonuses you get by meditating with Paarthurnax. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 06:56, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Pages for shouts

As the table is starting to get cluttered since there's no space for more information about each shout, I'm in the process of creating new pages for each shout. If you want to add feedback, talk about it here or at the template page. Chris3145 06:39, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Elemental Fury Wind or Air?

Courier

It says in the Locating Dragon Shouts section that a courier will give you the letter when you use a shout in "towns or even small encampments", but I just got one that says they heard me in Clearpine Pond. Has anyone else experienced something like this? — Unsigned comment by 174.253.131.119 (talk) at 20:38 on November 29, 2011

I have. Got a letter for shouting in High Hrothgar yesterday. :) --188.203.162.222 10:07, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Any idea how this Courier spawns with the Letter From A Friend? Is it totally random, or based on the times shouted, or maybe based on how far someone is with the main quest? --130.89.164.150 23:05, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
After receiving a letter you have to unlock the word of power at the mentioned location before you will get another letter. I don't know about the rest. Chris3145 23:46, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
I have received letters citing multiple locations outside of towns where I was using the Shouts to battle things like draugr and Forsworn. Example locations include, The Ritual Stone, Movarth's Lair, and Deepwood Redoubt. Darn straight I caused a stir. To be honest, the letter didn't make sense for a long while until I found it it was supposed to be delivered when you used it in towns. It seems to happen no matter where my character is at the time. As for how many shouts he has to do before the letter is triggered, I can't tell because often I would go back to town and the courier would get me as soon as I entered the gates. I don't think it has anything to do with how far you are in the main quest, they started arriving as soon as the Greybeards deemed my character Dragonborn. The letters seem to be triggering just by shouting. Aresvallis 05:37, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Looks like they are totally random, but there can only be one active. I did them and only 10 shouts later I got the next letter from a friend. I had one letter which said that my shouting in Valthume ... the usual story ... and that I should check out the word in Valthume. So it seems that when they trigger they will be delivered, even if you already got the word in the meantime. This doesn't have any consequences for more letters. By reading the letter there didn't pop up a new misc objective and I got a new letter already.--130.89.164.150 17:29, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Took these screenshots last week and forgot about them. Pretty funny coincidence. [1] [2] BMFPoochie 20:15, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Aye, it's completely random. I've gotten them with Dwemer ruins, Nord Ruins, towers, forts, caves, Dragonsreach and a bunch of other places. — Unsigned comment by MadocComadrin (talkcontribs) at 14:45 on December 31, 2011

Hag's End Word Wall

I can not learn the word in Hag's End. It will play the sound, but when i walk up to wall, the screen will not darken and the word will not light up. Reloading will not help. Clearing the dungeon a second time for another quest (with new witches) also didn't work. This is on PC. Anybody know how to add the word using the console or something? --31.151.125.202 05:16, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Please note that i made the note above before I had an account. The exact same thing happened again, now at Korvanjund. Since it was also a word of slow time, I think it has something to do with that. For people with problems, i posted a list on my talk page with all the console codes for the individual words! --Bign0se 00:35, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
I have the same bug with the timestop word wall at hags end, I already have the other two words, unfortunately when i tried using the console commands it does not end the quest given to you by Argneir nor does it give you the next word when you unlock it, you're still with just the same two words as before. What i mean to say is that when you shout you only say two words. SinisterWolf 22:02, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Try to walk towards the word wall using the -obvious- path given by textures. I had the same. I found a wall, jumping right in front of it from the rocks above: nothing happenend. Like one or two days later i again appeared but walked towards the wall using the path leading straight to it and then it worked. — Unsigned comment by 109.69.152.22 (talk) at 09:52 on 05 January 2012 (CET)
Try saving at the word wall (right by it), powering system/console completely off and reloading the save from the menu. I don't have a clue why but this worked for me on a bugged wall on two seperate occasions (one by meridia and one other) where chanting etc coming from the wall but shout wasn't being learned. — Unsigned comment by 82.13.90.46 (talk) at 16:28 on January 4, 2012

How about that raining fire shout? Love to get my hands on that. Tahaneira 15:28, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

It would have to be a PC player, which I am not. Whoever does this, make a second table please. Don't mix it in with the player-usable shouts. It may end up on a separate page that is linked to from this one. Chris3145 16:53, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

20 shouts, 60 words. But how many souls?

I just have the doubt. Is it possible to have more than 60 dragon souls in the game or even less?? Im just curious because so far I save my dragon souls for shouts that seem worth. But in the end is possible to unlock all the shouts in their major level, and still keep collecting souls?? If so, Bethesda should make a DLC where you could do something with the extra souls. Like putting it in a Black Soul Gem, and have an overpowered enchantment. Or spending one dragon soul to change the appearance of the character. — Unsigned comment by 201.152.48.21 (talk) at 21:51 on December 6, 2011

You can get at least enough souls to unlock all the words, so you don't need to worry about picking and choosing. I do not know if you can collect more. Chris3145 23:30, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
Yes, you can have it all. Actually I'm starting to fear that I will end up with a lot more souls! After some time it became pretty annoying that I encounter at least one dragon nearly everywhere I go, no matter if fast traveling or not. The entire Legion or Stormcloaks could have been fully armored with Dragon Bone Armor after the amount I sold to vendors. Seems there is no limit of dragons, but that's just speculation on my behalf. Oddly enough, encountering one Daedra became much more valuable than a dozen Dragons. Another speculaton: I don't think that Bethesda will change anyithing about what you have written here, in a DLC. But as always: mods. You never know. — Unsigned comment by 88.132.45.92 (talk) at 11:34 on December 11, 2011
There are an infinite amount of dragons, even after the main quest, so souls will come with thoose, not sure about respawning ones at shrines.--Br3admax 20:32, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Respawning dragons at the shrines do not give any souls (they can be looted though) only the random attacker do. — Unsigned comment by 195.243.152.140 (talk) at 16:00 on December 12, 2011
Also, there's no shortage of random Dragon fights. I've fought FOUR SIX in Winterhold alone (and got another, free soul in Winterhold from a glitch), so I don't think you need to worry about running out of them. 209.66.120.3 01:32, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
Final bit of proof here. I have already unlocked every word in every shout, and I have 25 souls extra

Sound glitch? (xbox360)

I have a male Altmer and I play on the Xbox 360. I recently acquired the second word of the Whirlwind Sprint shout. When using the second level of it my character generally only says the first word; sometimes, right after the sprint ends, my character then says the second word ("Nah!"). Sometimes the second word doesn't get spoken at all. I'm not sure if this is common with other shouts or not; my other level two and three shouts don't have this problem. Cronos 09:43, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

It happens a lot with that shout - it glitches more often than it works. You're not the only one. There are some similar sound bugs in other parts of the game. Chris3145 15:43, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Expanding "Quest Locked" Status

I am interested in identifying more of the limited access word walls (as has been done with Labyrinthian and Korvanjund) as I know of at least three more that require a faction-related quest to access. I am looking for some input as to formatting: should I use the format already used by adding "(quest locked)" within the location link; add the tag outside the location link; add a link to the related quest (although in the case of Korvanjund, there are 2 quests depending on which side of the civil war you're doing); or something altogether different? For now I will use the current format just to get the information on the page. Thanks. --Tremayne 20:12, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

I rather not have that information on the shout page. The place page should contain that information, and I feel it is redundant to mention it for the shouts in question as well. I don't have any strong feelings either way, though. On the layout question, I think it would be better to leave the quest-locked part out of the link. Wolok gro-Barok 20:25, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Fire Breath word doesn't appear on wall

After Paarthurnax breathes fire onto the word wall so that Shol can be learned, nothing happens. The words don't appear on the wall or anything, just an arrow pointing to the wall telling me I should learn the word of power which isn't there, which prevents me from completing the shout and progressing in the main quest. Has anyone else had this problem, or can tell me a way to fix/prevent this glitch? Yeah I've seen a couple glitches involving this. I've had it not give me the word and also had it once give me the word and since I unlocked it with a soul before Paarthurnax could teach me it it gave me the 2nd word as well rofl. Lord Eydvar 05:32, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

another unavaliable shout

From the drqagon page, i notice a shout called ice storm. i haven't buy skyrim and didn't saw it from any video. Can anyone tell me what is its word of power.(Vvardfell 13:13, 23 December 2011 (UTC))

I think that's editor error. I'm pretty sure that's just the Frost Breath shout, which looks a lot like Ice Storm.
Dragons do sometimes use the "player" versions of Frost Breath and Fire Breath like that (ie- if you are out of range of their regular cone of fire/frost). 76.90.130.126 20:46, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Remove DLC hint?

Arngeir will say exactly the same thing if you don't have discovered all words but the quest related. So you still have "lost words" to find. I don't think that this is a hint toward a DLC. --Killfetzer 10:59, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. I've removed that - it's far too speculative. rpeh •TCE 17:18, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

What happens when you collect all the Dragon Shouts?

I'm just missing the last word for Slow Time to complete the collection, but a bug is preventing me from doing so (The Word Wall at Korvanjund isn't working properly in my game). I could easily fix that by simply using player.teachword 48ACC, but I read somewhere that collecting all the words from the Word Walls starts a new quest, but that if you use the player.teachword the quest won't start or something like that.

So, can anyone please tell me what's this new quest about (and the new of the quest, if possible), and what I will be missing if I give myself the last word via console commands? Thank you in advance. :) — Unsigned comment by 95.22.83.47 (talk) at 16:04 on December 31, 2011

Fiik Lo Sah

It's the training dummy shout from the Greybeards, but you can get it as the player. Would it be possible to list the id? I'm sure many would like to avoid using psb just to try this out. — Unsigned comment by MadocComadrin (talkcontribs) at 22:37 on December 31, 2011

I'm...Still confused.

Alright. I'm really confused? Do you have to kill a dragon AFTER you have learned all three words of a dragon shout? Because, I've read two word walls, and have killed two dragons, and I have 1 shout that I can use, and 1 that I can't, and I don't know how to unlock it. First I read a wordwall (the one on the way to finding the golden claw thingy), then I killed a dragon as part of the main quest, and that unlocked the unrelenting force shout (If you need three words for each shout, shouldn't I have needed to find two more wordwalls?). Then I found another wordwall, which revealed a flame-breathing shout, which I couldn't use because I hadn't yet absorbed another dragon. Then I was involved in a fight in which a dragon was killed (Does it matter if I dealt the death blow to the dragon, or do I just need to activate the body?), so I thought that meant I could use the shout because I had absorbed a soul, but it still says I need a Dragon soul to use the shout. I'm fairly confused, and any clarifications that anyone could make for me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. — Unsigned comment by 76.112.31.124 (talk) at 20:05 on January 1, 2012

Highlight the shout in your menu and press X. Chris3145 22:03, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Pumpkin

Inside Southfringe Sanctum there is a small fox named pumpkin. Would there be a way to use Animal Allegiance to get the fox to my house? I dont think you could fast travel with it. and it is a long way to walk as it could get eaten. IDEAS?? My girlfriends pet name is pumpkin thought itd be cute. Also some of you may be aware that in Fallout 3 there was a molerat by the name of pumpkin, and a dog by the same name in Oblivion somewhere north of Anvil. — Unsigned comment by 71.123.205.9 (talk) at 11:05 on January 2, 2012

Poor Pumpkin the fox seems to be bugged. I checked him with Foretrenty's NPC editor (http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4554) and, according to his AI package, it seems that the designers' intention was to actually make him a follower, but they somehow screwed it up in the process (Pumpkin also belongs to the Necromancers faction for some reason). Unless Bethesda fixes him with an upcoming patch (or someone releases a mod), I'm afraid you won't be able to make him to follow you.
If you are playing the PC version of the game, you could always bring him to your house via console commands, like this:

Souls to shouts

I've killed 4 dragons so far and have 2 words uncovered but unrelenting force is still the only shout I can use. Are the souls shout specific? — Unsigned comment by 209.213.131.236 (talk) at 20:44 on January 2, 2012

What are the other words you have discovered? Any soul can be used to unlock any word. One of the unrelenting force words is given to you by the graybeards. If somebody else kills a dragon you usually can't absorb the soul.RIM 20:50, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
The one at skyborn altar, frost breath. I've absorbed to the soul of all the dragons I've encountered. — Unsigned comment by 209.213.131.236 (talk) at 21:08 on January 2, 2012
You have to actually unlock the word in the Shouts menu. Someone should put this in bold in the first paragraph- it's like the fifth time it's been asked on this page.
Also, RIM- where do you get the idea *you* have to kill the dragon to get the soul? I've seen a dragon killed by a guard, a frost troll, and another dragon, and I got the souls from all three. I also got one from a dragon I never even saw alive- there was a dead Ancient Dragon hovering outside Winterhold that burned and gave me its soul as soon as I got near. I don't think you have to be the one to kill them at all- you just need to be there. 209.66.120.3 02:00, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

test for word

Can anyone who have a pc version of skyrim have a test to find out whether Dragon Storm Call's word of power have been concluded in game. The content of the test is. Use console to add alduin in a remote place, turn on the subtitle, keep using dragonrend to keep it on ground, turn on god mode, wait for it to use dragon storm call. If word is included , there will be a subtitle.(Vvardfell 05:31, 3 January 2012 (UTC))

I'm on the ps3, after reloading alduin's bane, I can tell you there are subtitles.Br3admax 05:36, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Than,what is its word of power(Vvardfell 09:42, 3 January 2012 (UTC))

I'll test it in Sovengard.Br3admax 02:03, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

It happens when he breathes fire,it is dragon stormcall, I guess dova....until I took an arrow to the knee, Br3admax. 03:08, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Codes

Surely the codes for "Disarm" and "Become Ethereal" should be different...? Dr. Memory 17:55, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Learning seperate words and shouts trough console without a dragon soul!

On that other wiki is a full list of the separate words you need for the console commands.![[3]]

I also found out that instead of 'player.learnshout' you just have to type 'player.unlockshout' to unlock a shout without using a dragon soul! Yes, its really that simple.

I really have no time fixing that for this page I'm afraid, but I'm sure you guys appreciate the information. — Unsigned comment by 84.107.48.78 (talk) at 23:31 on 8 January 2012

That was helpful! For a character to use a new shout, they first learn the word then unlock it, using player.teachword <ID> and player.unlockword <ID>. --Rabidrobot 02:02, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Bugs

Under bugs section, part of it is wrong. Reloading from a previous cell has helped me on several walls. It should be noted at least.

I am on the 360. Ive reloaded the games from a save before i have been to the several word walls and after coming back to them. I reloaded from a fast travel everytime too.

Bugs There is a glitch where Arngeir will not give you the option to ask him for words of power. Sometimes, the word will not appear on the wall, leaving you unable to learn the entire shout. There does not appear to be a fix for this; (THIS PART)even loading from a previous save will not cause the word to appear.(END HERE) You will hear the background music/chanting, and the sound that plays when you learn a word will play, but you will not learn the word. The chanting/background music will continue to play every time you visit the site. bearhiderug 22:35, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Voice bug?

I've recently been playing a new character, a Nord male. I unlocked Unrelenting Force, and, for some reason, when I use it, my character shouts with a female voice!!!! — Unsigned comment by 86.30.165.226 (talk) at 19:31 on January 14, 2012

16 words from characters.

I believe you technically learn 16 not 15 words of power since Paarthurnax gives you a word for Flame Breath. I counted all the ones listed and it totaled 16. Lord Eydvar 05:29, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Not Saying The Words=

Any shout i try to use works and all but no sound is coming from the pc when i do it, aka fire comes from fire breath, but no Yol! could it be a problem with using the tim command for pc? i had experienced the falling head glitch when entering 3rd person but it buffed out after a while, this has not, any help would be appreciated. Thu'um master

Someone, that knows what they're doing, should probably add that you only need to learn 1 part of each shout. This also means that any comments on the pages about individual word walls being bugged preventing the achievement/trophy from unlocking should be wrong.

"Learn 20 shouts" seems pretty self-explanatory to me. It doesn't say anywhere that you need to know all the words. BloodaxeQuestion?EmailContribs 21:33, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

DragonRend and Dismay

DragonRend....(used to defeat Alduin)

Mortal, Finite, Temporary

JOOR ZAH FRUL!!!

YOU ARE THE FOOL!!!

A total and utter rejection and even a condescending (superior) response towards the opposing argument.

Dismay...(used to scare the **** out of your enemies)

Fear, Run, Terror

FAS RU MAAR

FAST RUMOR!

Mortals by nature are cowards. Rumors by default have a demoralizing/negative effect. Theindividual 10:07, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
