Easter Egg[edit]

Since we are considering this official (just hopefully not official enough to make it to lore), will this make it to the Easter Eggs page? It explicitly states on the mod page the cores from portal 2 (never played it myself so I don't know anything about it). (Eddie The Head 14:51, 9 February 2012 (UTC))

Definitely, although it's more of a cameo than an Easter egg to be honest. I was considering adding it to the page myself. --Legoless 20:17, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
I don't think so. I wouldn't consider mods, even ones Bethesda endorsed or helped make, to be part of the game proper. If they marked it as DLC, that'd be different. -Vardis 20:56, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
I was totally convinced that it was vandalism until I saw this page. Though, I don't think this is a very disruptive cameo by Elder Scrolls standards. "Easter Egg" implies it's hidden, which is not accurate. --Theothersteve7 15:26, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
I totally agree with Theothersteve7 here. If this ones qualify for an easter egg, then this page seriously needs to split that page in to two pages. One with easter eggs and one with all the other stuff people want to call easter egg. It is an official release and not even slightly secret or hidden. If it would have been in the original game and not a word from bethesda about it, then it would have been different. --Middleofsweden 15:00, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
Would "canon cross-over" be more realistic term? Like when the Jetsons and the Flinstones met? Just a random thought I had to share. --Anubis Priest 21:05, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

() It is a "borrowing" from Halo (2001) of the character 343 Guilty Spark right down to the glowing purple "eye". Kalevala 21:17, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Absolutly not. Valve and Bethesda made it, how is it anything other than the core from Portal, when the official release states this. The Silencer has spokenTalk 21:24, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Minor Edit[edit]

Changed the Atronach Forge from requiring 8 Ingots to a single Ingot or a single piece of moonstone ore. — Unsigned comment by BrknSoul (talkcontribs) at 03:04 on 10 February 2012 (GMT)

Should this go under Tes5mod instead of the Skyrim category?[edit]

Considering this is a mod after all, it would seem fitting.

However, Morrowind's official free plugins are made via Morrowind, not Tes3mod pages. Could somebody clear this up?

Also, I'm unable to take screens myself, but an image of Wheatley on the skills menu would be appreciated. — Unsigned comment by Theothersteve7 (talkcontribs) at 16:26 on 10 February 2012 (GMT)

I created the page by following Morrowind's example; I personally don't like the mod namespaces. I've also added a picture of Wheatley, although it's not great. --Legoless 16:17, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

irrelevant[edit]

Not useful info for those who play skyrim without steam. — Unsigned comment by 71.195.36.205 (talk) at 04:22 on 12 February 2012 (UTC)

A lot of our articles are specifically aimed at certain platforms. However, just because it isn't available to those who don't play on PC doesn't make it irrelevant. Also, we clearly state on the article that you can't use it if you aren't on the pc in the summary box and in the opening paragraph. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 04:22, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Images for different races[edit]

Is it possible to get images of how three versions of the helmet (for humans, argonians and khajiits) look on the player? - 85.222.89.208 21:15, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Weight of Space Core[edit]

I see the page lists the weight as "3.1". Given that the game rounds displayed weights to the tenths place, is there a chance that the space core actually weighs pi? Not sure how to check exact weights. --Theothersteve7 14:49, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm not 100% sure about Skyrim but the Oblivion Construction Kit had at most 4 digit spaces [0.0000] so it could probably be at most 3.1415 (66.245.199.9 22:14, 26 February 2012 (UTC))
It weighs 3.1400, so it's the "dumbed-down" version of pi that people use. --Velyanthe 22:19, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
Awesome! --Theothersteve7 19:17, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
Pity they didn't increase the size of the download to 31.4 MB The Silencer 02:52, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Mechanics question[edit]

Does creating the helmet at the atronach forge consume the space core? I kind of like having him chill at my house. — Unsigned comment by 173.3.59.86 (talk) at 04:17 on 5 March 2012

No. It is only used to power the forge. --Anubis Priest 21:04, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

Smithing the Dovahcore helmet?[edit]

The article says you can smith the helmet with a moonstone ingot and the arcane blacksmith perk, in addition to making it at the atronach forge.

How is this possible? I have some of the smithing perks as well as arcane blacksmith, but have no option that I can see to smith this helmet. — Unsigned comment by Christovski (talkcontribs) at 03:10 on 10 March 2012

I added a Verification Needed tag, but you might as well go and make it at the Atronach Forge (Eddie The Head 04:16, 10 March 2012 (UTC))
Through the CK I have found out that the helmet cannot be crafted at a normal blacksmith forge, but can be tempered / improved by using one Moonstone Ingot if you have the Arcane Blacksmith Perk. I have changed the page to note this. (I figure I have been around quietly on the Wiki long enough to risk a minor but important edit.) --Anubis Priest 21:23, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

Empty Questbox[edit]

In researching the Dovahcore Helmet within the CK I noted a completely empty quest section that only has two stages: a "0" stage that starts a quest and a "100" stage that ends the quest. One of the two new included load scene flavor texts states, "Space Spheres, also known as the Spheriphem, are natives of space, and will cajole adventurers to help them return to that comforting void." It makes me wonder if a small quest was to be included to get the player to get a specific giant to launch the sphere back into space? Is the empty request required for scripting to introduce and remove the sphere from the game? Just curious, as I am always...

For interest, the second load screen text is, "Space is the thing you see above Tamriel when you're walking around outside with your head tilted back." Too bad the mod didn't include it as a new thing for M'aiq to say.--Anubis Priest 21:38, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

Space Core stopped talking[edit]

In one of my playthroughs I left the space core on one of the beds in the Thieves Guild hideout under Riften and when I came back it was no longer talking. The animations are still there but he doesn't make any sounds anymore. I've tried picking it up and dropping it again, disabling it and re-enabling it with the console, taking it to a different cell and dropping it there - none of it worked. When I load an older save game, the core is behaving normally.

Did anyone else run into this problem? I wonder if there is any way to get it to talk again without disabling and then re-enabling the mod (which I haven't tried yet, so I don't even know for sure if that would work)

--m.harmless 21:01, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Same issue with me, I have had him in my house in Whiterun for quite a long time (in-game time), sitting in a chair, now he just sits there moving but never talking, tried all of the above (picking up, disable/enable, etc) to the same results, I'm thinking it is a bug based on how long since aquiring him. Christovski 23:27, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
Update: as of the most recent patch the Space Core now talks upon interaction (using the grab command to lift it up, taking it into inventory, clicking on it while in inventory, dropping it) but still does not talk during idle animation like it used to. Christovski 01:57, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
I've had the same issue. Looking around on the Steam forums, it looks like placing him on the Atronach Forge gets him talking again. Not sure if his silence after a prolonged period of time should be listed as a bug? Nydidia (talk) 22:30, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

Launch into space[edit]

I just read that the core, if hit by a giant, will launch back into space and be removed from the game. I was wondering, if this happens, would disabling and reenabling the mod cause a new one to land at the ruined house? 98.228.90.26 05:17, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Probably, yes. —Legoless (talk) 16:18, 8 October 2012 (GMT)

Volume 2 to be released?[edit]

The title "Fall of the Space Core, Vol 1", must mean that later on, a volume 2 will be released. Any ideas what could be added? --The Aecho 01:47, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

As there is no evidence to suggest a sequel besides the name, and this has nothing to do with the mod itself until one is released or announced, please take this discussion to our forums. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 01:51, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Dovahcore Helmet[edit]

The article says that "Three variations available, with only cosmetic differences. The particular type of helmet received depends on character race; Human/Mer, Khajiit, or Argonian." Has this been confirmed? because no matter what race I play the helmet looks the same for me. Also we currently list the ID's for the Dovahcore Helmet as xx000b98 and Space Core as xx000d62. For me the Dovahcore Helmet is 06003321 and the Space Core is 060012CA. Do these change or am I just doing something wrong? — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 00:49, 8 October 2012 (GMT)

From pictures, it looks to me like the Khajiit version of the helmet has a slightly bigger(/smaller?) hole for the face. I'm not sure if the helmet looks different in the inventory or if it only changes when equipped. —Legoless (talk) 16:09, 8 October 2012 (GMT)
The ID given for the Space Core was its refID (that is the reference for where you can find the item in the world). I changed it to the baseID we use for all items. I have no idea what the old ID of the helmet was about. --Alfwyn (talk) 13:45, 5 November 2012 (GMT)

Space Core Value[edit]

Someone recently added the note that "The item values are a reference to the SHA-2 set of cryptographic hash functions, with 256 and 512 being some of the average digest sizes."

256 and 512 are simple powers of 2, used all over the computer world. Is there any reason to believe that SHA-2 is involved here? Robin Hood  (talk) 21:07, 6 August 2013 (GMT)

NPCs won't equip it[edit]

My current playthrough is one totally devoid of armor or apparel beyond jewelry, but I like the dovahcore helmet. I figured I'd make it and pop it onto Serana's head. However, she won't even carry it, the option to give it to her is greyed out. Is that normal? Is it because my character is a khajiit and she's not? 74.240.202.174 07:31, 6 November 2013

Can you give Serana anything? She is subject to a glitch that reduces her carry weight - if you give her headwear to use other than her stupid hood she spawns an infinite number of them. 152.10.251.2 15:00, 11 December 2013 (GMT)

Without steam?[edit]

Does the mod work if your skyrim game isn't through steam? — Unsigned comment by 64.222.218.28 (talk) at 22:38 on 20 December 2013

As far as I know, all legally obtained pc-versions of skyrim run steam... But if you in any way should be able to get your hands on the mod files (since you don't start your game through steam subscribing won't work), it should be fine...
In any case, buy a legal copy of skyrim! -- SarthesArai Talk 22:42, 20 December 2013 (GMT)

Canon?[edit]

I don't think it's been confirmed whether or not this is canon. --Resonance Gamer (talk) 02:18, 17 May 2014 (GMT)

According to wiki policy it could be considered canon, but I don't think we could honestly get away with that. Still, I'd personally like to see it integrated into lore, since they did go to the trouble of inserting that lore-friendly 'Spheriphem' line. —Legoless (talk) 02:36, 17 May 2014 (GMT)
By the strict letter of the policy it would be canon, but I don't think it was ever meant to be despite efforts to make it appear lore friendly. However, if there is something that would be beneficial to the lore section I think we can at least include it in the notes of that page. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 13:33, 17 May 2014 (GMT)
I suppose on the slight chance someone from UESP knew any Bethesda employee (or Valve employee) who worked on the mod could get in contact and ask, that'd be great :P --Resonance Gamer (talk) 02:25, 31 May 2014 (GMT)
Bethesda would probably deny it. —Legoless (talk) 14:05, 31 May 2014 (GMT)

Patch fixing displayed weight?[edit]

I'm not sure if it's the USKP or an official patch that does this, but my items all have displayed weights of up to two decimal places, making some ingredients show up as 0.25 weight units, and the Space Core at it's intended 3.14. If someone can verify what fixes this, since I couldn't find it in USKP's documentation, it could probably be noted somewhere on the article. Schiffy (Speak to me|What I've done) 17:47, 1 May 2015 (GMT)

Are you using a UI mod of some kind, like SkyUI? Normally, the number of decimal places would be changed by that sort of mod, though mods being what they are, just about anything could probably have bundled that change in. It's not the USKP, though, I double-checked. Robin Hood  (talk) 18:12, 1 May 2015 (GMT)
Hm.... actually yeah it probably is SkyUI, given that when I dropped the Core and hovered my crosshair over it it still said "3.1". Schiffy (Speak to me|What I've done) 20:22, 1 May 2015 (GMT)
