Attacked by Dragon[edit]

Did anyone get attacked by a dragon when exiting onto the balcony? Pretty interesting, as it attached and killed the imposter and his imperial stooge. — Unsigned comment by 108.162.132.130 (talk) at 01:50 on 16 December 2011

Taking the Claw opens the speargate[edit]

Worth mentioning that picking up the claw/key opens the spear gate that bars further progress - I missed the key and was being driven insane by my inability to open this gate - assumed it was a return path and spent two hours researching the whole area - until at last I found the claw and all my problems went away - StuWade86.160.23.104 00:16, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

quest didn't start[edit]

when i first came he didnt talk to me. i pick pocketed the key and entered. am I still able to complete the dungeon? is there another way to start the quest? i found the last mask i need so if this screws me out of it I'm not gana be happy... Puffin 04:57, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

the quest started when i looted the mask from the dragon priest. the dungeon was completable. but when i got outside it told me to kill the impostor. the pointer is pointing at an empty spot on the ground. fix? Puffin 05:55, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Captain Valmir's camp vanishes some time after completing the dungeon[edit]

At least it did in my game. May be interesting to add this bit of information in the main page.--201.1.30.131 01:47, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Lightning Gem[edit]

In the third section theres a pretty powerful lightning gem that can shoot you from quite a distance through a doorway even. theres a pillar you can use for cover but it hits hard. Might be worth noting or adding strategies to get past it. — Unsigned comment by SneakyPenguin77 (talkcontribs) on 29 March 2012

I just drink a Resist Shock potion and run to remove the soulgem from the socket! --92.235.208.27 17:44, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Ancient Nord Armor Drops.[edit]

Confirming that at least sometimes the ghost "Dragon Cultists" drop Ancient Nord Armor. Quite a few on my last run through of Forelhost. XBox 360.— Unsigned comment by 67.234.31.7 (talk) on 27 Apr 2012, 09:42

Confirmed. PC with latest patches. The ones in my playthrough carried mostly ancient Nord armor and weapons, plus the occasional dragon priest dagger. --Xyzzy 02:44, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Confirmed on 360. With the latest patches and Dawnguard installed my experience was the same as Xyzzy. And I feel like this article may not properly emphasize that anyone who doesn't care about loot might be better off finding some lockpicks for the well gate. The route to the key was practically a dungeon all it's own in length. I even got a boss level draugur at its end. I decided to take pity on Lydia and left the dugeon briefly to go to a house and rid her of the tons or so of weapons I made her pick up after doing that part. When I returned I noticed something I usually don't: the draugur and dragon cultists I killed disappeared. Is self-cleanup way before they actually reset a common feature of dungeons? I've only noticed it twice.--Playerseekingbugs 06:23, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
Yeah the section heading down to get the key has a very high number of high leveled draugr. At Level 33 almost every draugr in this section was a Deathlord. As for the Ancient Nord Armor it actually appears to be a definite drop from the ghosts as I've gotten it off the ghosts at multiple different level ranges including very low levels (sub 10) Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 02:00, 16 September 2012 (GMT)
Confirming the self cleanup on exit.
also came upon a deathlord who shouted me back to the beginning of the crypt section, ( without killing me). — Unsigned comment by 92.13.118.46 (talk) at 21:23 on 17 December 2012 (GMT)
PS4 Legendary Level 95 - (First run of this dungeon this play-through.) All of the "ghosts" had Ancient Nord Armor, most a full set but not all. Almost all other enemies were deathlord's of various levels but only a few that had "grand" souls, and all with shouts including a shout that disables "your" shout ability for a short while. All high level ebony weapons (non-magical) of all three types. Boss in the "Well Key" section was a "Draugr Death Overlord" while his 2-buddies were "Draugr Deathlords" and the soul gem trap above was a fairly nasty "Ice Storm" that seemed to take off more than 40 damage points even with Greater Magic Resist (MR) +30, Breton blood MR 25%, and Agent of Mara MR +15. (440 HP/~6 hits to die = 73/hit damage after resists). (Philbert) 65.25.169.116 01:45, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

Bug with Glass Claw Door?[edit]

I cannot turn any of the rings to the glass claw door. I tried reloading. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I am not sure what I could be doing wrong. — Unsigned comment by 173.19.138.20 (talk) at 15:14 on 22 May 2012

Sorry, which platform are you playing on? Kitkat TalkContribE-mail 15:52, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Update - I bypassed the bug by loading from Forelhost crypt and activating the rings before I activated the claw. I am playing on an Xbox. — Unsigned comment by 173.19.138.20 (talk) at 16:05 on 22 May 2012

() Xbox 360 also--rings don't turn at all.

Here is the scenario...

I climbed the back side of the mountain easily by using a horse for the climb, and got to the dragon shout wall area by having played the game thru a whole bunch of times and knowing the shout wall was there.

So, already having the shout, later I wanted to get the dragon priest mask, so I went the same back climbing route into the place.

I saw the shout was already memorized and no longer displayed on the shout wall there. I went in sneak mode invisible, pick pocketed the fake Storm Cloak Captain/officier for the key to the place, entered the place with the Delphine and Esbern (Blades who I was supposedly escorting to their Sky Temple), Serana vampire princess, Brelyna Maryon conjuration student mage from the Winterhold Mage's college as my follower, and two dread thralls--a vampire and a Reaver Lord both with magic powers.

I was at level 102 with really buffed gear and health.

I got the dragon claw from the shelf room then went through the blocked doorway by lifting some object off of a pedestal to lift the jail bar barrier out of the way.

I had Sneak 100 with all the perks. I never set off a pressure plate trap due to the light foot perk or whatever it is in that skill tree.

I ended off having to go all the way back out to the fake Storm Cloak Captain to do dialog with him. Captain's dialog was out of sync with what he should have been saying to me because I had never talked with him about the mission, but he was telling me that I should go back into the place and do what I was paid to do, but he had not spoken with me at all until that moment.

The rings, when I went back into the place after having spoken with the fake Captain, "turned fine" now, but the lock would never open when the claw was inserted when the picture sequences were in the right combination settings outer to inner rings, etc. I tried going in through the "back way" from the top elevation shout wall direction through the big arching doorway there but that door was locked by key that I didn't get or have yet, etc.

I tried reverse pick pocketing back the key for the place back to the fake Storm Cloak Captain, but that didn't work at all b/c the dialog was the exact same as before. 198.91.176.251 11:58, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Valmir The Traitor?[edit]

After emerging onto the balcony at the end, the Siege on the Dragon Cult quest updated with "Kill the traitor Valmir". The journal item explained that he had been falsely luring unsuspecting soldiers into the stronghold where they were killed. After I whacked Valmir the quest completed. Does this depend on the player's level? (Also, my level is in the high 50's and I haven't yet chosen sides in the Civil War).

By the way, I did get attacked by a dragon as soon as I approached the Word Wall. In fact, the attack began as soon as I emerged onto the balcony. — Unsigned comment by 99.30.172.194 (talk) at 04:42 on 6 March 2013 (GMT)

Finding the Glass Claw - a rare oddity?[edit]

Dealt with the lightning trap. Removed every object from all pedestals, usually using an arrow and got to the door. Whoops, no claw. Went back and searched the dungeon. Came back searching the dungeon again. Finally gave up and read the wiki page. Searched that room inch by inch and finally found the glass claw on the floor. The object that I shot off the pedestal was a helmet! My best guess is the helmet got blasted onto the pedestal knocking the claw off. This is up there with my taking a random bow shot from above the east side of Karthspire camp towards the door to The Karthspire and hitting a Foresworn I didn't even see right between the eyes. About a 500 yard shot. (Adjustment made to the .ini file) Sniffles (talk) 08:34, 3 August 2013 (GMT)

Arrow Count[edit]

Hey, sorry about the edit not being labelled right. I haven't posted anything here since about 3 months after Skyrim came out. I was sitting here watching my roommate kill the cultists and she got 116 arrows from one, and this was with her using Orcish Arrows, so she wasn't adding to their arrow count. I changed the number to 116 since obviously it's possible to get at least that many per drop. I don't consider it an accurate number, but it is definitely more accurate than 99. If someone would like to either look into the coding or do several tests to find the real maximum, then that would be great. Oh, and feel free to delete this section if you replace the information in the article with the exact number. Jo'ker (talk) 05:22, 28 July 2014 (GMT)

I took a look at the cslist, and the number of arrows can vary, because one of the arrow entries has a 25% chance of not generating an arrow. It looks to me like they can have at most 126 arrows. By the way, the reason they can carry so many arrows is that the cultists were given an arrow leveled list that can give between 1 and 21 arrows five times, as well as the standard bow + arrows list. --AN|L (talk) 16:25, 28 July 2014 (GMT)
