Weapon Rack Bug & Workaround (Xbox 360)

For PS3 - NONE, Not a single 1 of the weapon racks or plaques in Hjerim work at all and this REALLY sucks people. A REAL disappointment. Only the 2 dager display cases in the master bedroom seem to work. — Unsigned comment by 68.148.181.221 (talk) at 09:52 on December 8, 2011

For 360 - Confirmed that none of the weapon racks or plaques are useable. No option to place a weapon on them at all. — Unsigned comment by 108.18.250.130 (talk) at 02:04 on December 18, 2011
Please sign your posts. All containers appear to work fine for me (360, 1.3) with the exception of the two dagger display cases in the bedroom. I purchased the home and all upgrades before becoming thane, so the workaround was not necessary. Accretor 09:53, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Obviously I don't know if this will work for the PC or PS3, but I couldn't use any of my weapon racks or display cases after I bought the house. One of my friends had the house and it was working properly for him, so I asked him when he bought the house, where he was in the game, and when he started the "Blood on the Ice" quest. It turns out that as long as you are Thane before you buy the upgrades, everything should work properly. — Unsigned comment by 68.82.43.0 (talk) at 05:03 on December 11, 2011
Beware the dagger display cases in the master bedroom, though, as they eat whatever weapon you put in them. If this house doesn't get patched, then I'll have lost Mehrunes' Razor. — Unsigned comment by 68.82.43.0 (talk) at 14:30 on December 11, 2011

I confirm that I have the same problem with the two racks in the bedroom on Xbox 360 with 1.3.5.0. This needs to be posted to the bugs list, so I'll do that. Accretor 09:29, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Im having the same problem on PS3 i bought the house then becone thane then finally purchased the upgrades and i still cant use any of the weapon racks and im not sure but are display cases meant to be activated like dagger cases are? Because i cant do that either... Anonymous
On Xbox, sided with the Legion, became Thane, purchased the house, solved the murder, purchased the upgrades, rage. In that order. The main part is that i was Thane before i bought the upgrades and still my weapon racks are useless. Does not appear to be the issue. Anonymous Mk II
You can try shooting a broken weapon plaque with an arrow - I fixed one in Solitude that way. 70.26.143.254 21:23, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Possible solution (worked for me!) I had the same problem. Tried every suggestion posted on this page but nothing worked for me (buying as Thane, buying upgrades in different order, etc.). What worked for me was the following:

  1. Bought the house.
  2. Became Thane.
  3. Bought the upgrades (clean up before living room).
  4. Entered the house. Checked the weapon plagues in the secret room and armory. They didn't work.
  5. Quit Skyrim back to the main menu.
  6. Loaded the most recent autosave of Hjerim.

All weapon plagues and racks and display cases now worked. Problem solved. I hope this works for other people too. This was done on XBOX 360. 62.132.204.72 10:19, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

() XBOX 360 WEAPON RACK PROBLEM- I never take the time to assist people on the internet but this glitch pissed me off so bad that I refused to let you guys suffer as I have.I lost 4 hours of game play and God knows how much stuff but it was worth it (sickest house thus far). This is what I tried and it worked for me- -right after the "Blood On Ice" mission, I saved. If you saved too, Load that last save before you talk to the Ulfric's Steward

-Talk to him to complete the "Blood On Ice" mission

-Talk to Ulfric. He'll Tell you about setting you up in Windhelm with a house. (If you bought the house like I did, make sure you haven't decorated it yet). He'll Tell you to talk to the Steward.+Back out of the conversation; Talk to the steward and you'll see the "buy Windhelm home" (or whatever its called) completed. +back out of the conversation without buying any decorations

-Talk to Ulfric again. Choose the first Dialouge option. He will say he now wants to give you the title of Thane (I dont remember but I think you have to say something else to him which is also the first dialougue option for him to finalize making you a Thane)

-ONCE YOU ARE THANE go back to the Steward and decorate your house ***I think the order of how you buy the decorations is whats messing everything up. Sometimes it gives you the option to buy the decoration twice (I only did it at the end for the alchemy set because i noticed that the ingredients on my shelves in the secret room were missing even though i bought everything {alchemy was the only option left even though i chose it already})

-I bought the armory first. To make sure it worked, before I bought anything else, I went to the house and put a worthless weapon on it.

-Went back to the Steward and bought the decorations in the order from most expensive to cheapest

***Buy the "clean up that killers mess" AFTER you buy the living room, enchanting table, and alchemy set*** -After that, I went back to the house and the rack worked. I was able to remove the old weapon and place new ones. same thing goes for the plaques.

Im sure a lot of the things I did were unnecessary but I couldnt play it safe. I wanted to make sure that those damn weapon racks and plaques worked or the windhelm home wasnt worth smack. It almost totally ruined the game for me. But now its back to normal

It seems that you just have to do things in a specific order and properly complete them. I dont know if how you play the "Blood On Ice" mission creates any problems.

Unable to purchase due to... unpleasantries.

On Xbox 360 with war won for the Stormcloaks, I was granted permission to buy Hjerim from Ulfric. When I speak to Jorleif and ask to buy the house he says it's unavaliable. I have the glitch where Blood on the Ice won't work. Susanna is alive, Calixto is alive, Wuunferth is alive, Viola is alive, yada yada yada. I have tried the pickpocketing the key trick and every other workaround here and elsewhere. Some people have said the quest activated when they purchased Hjerim, but obviously I can't do that. Is anybody familiar with the conditions for Hjerim's purchase that may cause some with the BOTI glitch to be able to buy Hjerim and some not? — Unsigned comment by 99.112.97.201 (talk) at 07:17 on 24 December 2011

Same in PC. — Unsigned comment by 93.156.152.121 (talk) at 02:29 on 26 December 2011
Me too. I had the same issue. I had to wait until the quest is triggered by normal means (in the quest's wiki). 75.80.97.155 10:46, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Dagger Cases Work Fine

(Xbox 360) While checking out this talk page, I see that alot of people are having problems with the dagger display cases. I thought I had the same problem, but the target box for the displayed dagger is extremely tiny. I was able to remove any dagger, I had the Razor and the Fang (College quest) in them and were able to get them out. The easiest way to do this, I found, is to turn your sensitivity all the way down then pan down accross the blade. Also, aiming just above the blade works. Unfortunately the weapon racks and plaques still don't work for me, since I took the shorter route through the quest. --Mikeyy 09:25, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Nettlebane becomes irretrievable once put into a dagger case. On the plus side, the case actually resets and you can put other daggers into it, just MARKFORDELETE Nettlebane and it'll go away. The Blade of Woe can be placed and retrieved without incident.

Bugged weapon racks?

All of the weapon racks and plaques are completely unusable for me. Happened in Breezehome too. Running 360 latest patch.--81.100.20.223 12:15, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Non- working plaques fix

After having this house glitch up on me on my previous character, i started a new one and did the blood on the ice quest first thing out of helgen. When I bought my house ( with clean mess option first) all the interactibles did not work. I tried becoming thane before AND after and nothing. However upon completion of stormcloack questline THEN i completed blood on the ice ( i saved bfore i finished) and then became thane then bought upgrades and everyhing functions normally. — Unsigned comment by 192.148.117.104 (talk) at 06:53 on January 10, 2012

Fix for PC Weapon Rack / Plaque ----

So, I made the mistake of putting my Ghost Blade on one of the weapon racks, and now it is MIA. That is OK, as I can get a new one using the console. What I can’t live with is the broken weapon rack or plaque. It is all about the aesthetics people, and I got tired of moving. Anyway, I think I figured out how to fix this issue. This fix involves lots of console commands, so it will only work on the PC. Also, it is not a permanent fix, so don’t rehang your newly appropriated Ghost Blade. This is what I know. The weapon racks have two parts. The first part is the graphic you see, and second an invisible activator. When you activate a weapon rack or plaque, the activator is disabled until you remove the weapon. So you need to re-enable the Activator, but first you need to find the activator.

A) Get in front of the broken weapon rack so it is centered in view. B) Open the console with tilde (~) C) Select the broken weapon rack with the mouse by clicking on it. D) Type “showvars” and press Enter. Use the Page Up and Down keys to scroll. E) You need to know the name of the “Trigger” var. Mine was “HasBeenTriggered_var” F) You also need the number for the Activator under “ActivatorDef_var” G) Type “SETPV <name of trigger> False”. Mine was “SETPV HasBeenTriggered_var False” H) Type “Prid <Activator #>” and hit enter. Mine was “Prid 0006D95F” I) Type “Enable” and press enter J) Exit the console, look away from the Rack, then look back

I hope this help you, and spares you hours of going through Skyrim Papyrus code. If you enjoy that kind of masochistic behavior, this is the web site that gave me most of the information: http://www.creationkit.com/Dissecting_the_Scripts_for_Weapon_Racks

XBox Weapon Racks while thane

I've tried everything i even reloaded from a few days ago just to become thane before buying the upgrades and the weapon racks still wont work except for two dagger racks in the bedroom — Unsigned comment by 98.232.152.28 (talk) at 14:22 on January 10, 2012

Missing chest in Hjerim

completed blood on the ice, no problems, i go to buy the house, buy the clean up first then all the rest, go to the house and notice there is no chest (should be at the end of the master bedrooms bed) anyone have any ideas how to fix it ? — Unsigned comment by 94.168.86.64 (talk) at 17:37 on January 16, 2012

  • Same here, it's been driving me nuts trying to figure out how to get it. I had read somewhere that it was related to how much you paid for the house (if you paid the 8k instead of 12k), so i reloaded a much earlier save and re-did the Thane quest. That time i paid the full amount, but all it managed to do was break all the weapon racks (they were all fine before lol). So i tried then paying the 8K again, but still all my weapon racks are broke and i still have no chest! I really have tried every all ways of doing it but the chest never shows, don't think i ever will. Now i'd just be happy to get the weapon racks working again like they did initially pffft Citti 01:56, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
-Please someone fix this! My OCD won't let me put anything in a container it won't logically fit in so I only put weapons in the chests lol. — Unsigned comment by 166.250.106.231 (talk) at 22:54 on January 20, 2012
  • Could this be a result of missing areas of the house during the investigation? My chest was also missing. I went to its location to see if I could still activate it, but an option to investigate a table and chairs came up (which were obviously not there), resulting in a pop-up message about their odd configuration. If you happen to miss investigating this during that related quest, could it bug out the chest? Reverendgeneral 02:02, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
Same happened to me, and after scouring the house looking for the chest, I gave up and went to Whiterun to go complete some other miscellaneous objectives. I went to Arcadia's Cauldron on a whim, and in her Misc barter inventory was a chest named DO NOT DELETE, which cost 200 gold. I'm willing to bet that the game got its resources all in a knot and ended up giving the chest to her, although I can't be certain. It should also be noted that the chest, once bought, functions as any other miscellaneous object in that you can't open it, regardless of whether you had stuff in there to begin with. — Unsigned comment by 24.2.34.99 (talk) on 30 March 2012
Thanks for this, I can confirm that I did not investigate the bed during the murder investigation and when I decorated my bedroom and approached the bed I got the message about investigating the chairs and the odd configuration and I have no chest at the end of the bed. True trigger for the unusable weapon plaque bug (xbox)

The Weapon plaque bug is triggered whenever you enter a house before purchasing the upgrades that provide said weapon racks. It is not specific to Hjerim and applies to any purchasable house in the game. If you dont believe me its easy to test, just purchase any house (to obtain the key) then enter it before buying any upgrades, then leave and buy the upgrades and come back, none of the weapon racks will work. The problem here is that you are required to enter Hjerim to complete the "Blood on the ice". I have not had the chance to test my theory of a solution, but Im hopeful that the bug can be avoided by waiting enough time for the cell to reset after completeing "Blood on the ice" before purchasing. 71.168.81.175 06:23, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

One drawback to this is that after you purchase the 'clean up mess' and don't visit the house before purchasing the rest, it may bug and the mess will remain... --Mikeyy 23:17, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Fixed Hjerim for Xbox 360

Ok, just gonna let you know how i got this house working for me on the 360. The only problem i have with it is a missing chest in the bedroom, all the weapon racks and maniquins are perfect  :D

This is the order i did things

I spoke to Ulfric about becoming Thane so that quest was active Then i started Blood on the Ice by talking to the guard at the graveyard I then did another 4 quests towards becoming Thane (Did NOT go and talk to Ulfric to be made thane) Then i went to his steward and bought the house and all upgrades in one go, then went to the house for the first time after purchasing it and everything is perfect (apart from the missing chest as i said)

I think the most important part of this, is that you buy all the upgrades before entering the house for the first time after purchase. It doesn't matter if you enter the house while doing Blood on the Ice, as long as you hadn't purchased it yet.

And as i've said before, becoming Thane before purchasing the upgrades will make absolutely no difference and should probably be removed from the main page (or at least stated what platform it does work on, cause it is clearly wrong for xbox 360. Citti 13:15, January 18, 2012 (UTC)

I have no idea who posted this above guide - but It works!!!! I have tried so hard and restarted so often and the above steps lead to everything working fine except for that one negligible missing chest!!!!! GETTING HJERIM WITHOUT INVESTIGATION TARGETS AND NO GLITCHES! (PC only)

The quest Blood in the Ice is glitched and bugged - if you can't trigger it or even solve it in order to buy your house, it is still possible to get Hjerim without any problems. First of all, initiate the fix by typing completequest ms11 and completequest ms11b. Once you do that, the quest Blood in the Ice will be solved, but the steward won't let you buy the house, so type in: setstage a7b33 10 (make sure you got 12000 gold - otherwise don't do it). Then, the house is now bought. But of course, you will want to have the mess cleaned. Go see the steward. There he would let you to purchase your furnishings, but DON'T buy any before looking after the option to clean up the murderer's mess. After doing this, DON'T buy any furnishing - check if your house is cleaned, take a look on the secret wardrobe if the ritual desk and bones are still there (they shouldn't - if they do, reload an earlier save and try again). While in the house, you will notice that the floor still has some fragments and cobwebs upstairs. Leave the house then try typing df495.disable in the console and checking inside the house if the fragments and cobwebs are still there, but they now should be gone. Now the mess itself is gone, you just need to buy your furnishings. Go to the steward and buy your furnishings, then come to your house again to see if everything is in order - you should notice (if you didn't notice before, check by the bed upstairs) some annoying Investigation Target. In order to remove them, leave your house and type in your console: d55f2.disable; d5625.disable; d5662.disable; d57f6.disable; d57ef.disable; d57f7.disable; d572c.disable and d57c7.disable Go back to your house and voilá! Your house is rid of annowing cobwebs, Investigation Targets, fragments, blood and it is totally possible to live in it with no problems. NOTE: Some say this fix is temporary, but I've been playing for one whole week right now and got no problems with Hjerim again. This small fix was brought to you by Diogovsky, but the informations were taken from: A quote by Toutatis in http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/471508-fix-for-hjerim-bloody-mess-bug/ and a post by ballstothewall in http://www.cheathappens.com/show_board2.asp?headID=109811&titleID=18106&onPage=2 Feel free to reply in this section, reporting if it worked for you or not. — Unsigned comment by 187.23.114.8 (talk) at 21:24 on January 19, 2012

Reply: Tested and works 100%. I had the same problem as many people-i finished the skirim civil war(i did imperial but stormcloak may also get bugged) and when i went back to Windhelm (over 10 times at least :( ) the schene at the graveyard would not spawn ( getstage ms11 = 0)I couldn't buy the house due to unplesentrys...I even tried using "unlock" to get inside the house but it wouldn't trigger the quest. This fix is a real life saver i can finaly become thane of Windhelm :D. Btw i even made the mistake of buying furniture before doing the .disable fixes. It still worked 100% no spider webs, fragments on the floor or "Investigate seen". Thanks a lot :) — Unsigned comment by 91.211.108.139 (talk) at 16:54 on February 1, 2012

Hjerim master bedroom dagger rack problem temporary solution

I had problems with the two dagger racks in the master bedroom in Hjerim. After placing a dagger in them it somehow bugged out and I coul place more more daggers in them. You can easily get sround this by opening the console, clicking the dagger in the rack and typi g into the console "getpos z" and it should display a decimal number. Next type "setpos z [here type the earlier number plus 10 or 15]" and the dagger should move up. Now close the console and pick up the dagger, rince and repeat for all daggers in the rack and in the other rack aswell. Be careful not to move the dagger rack itself. Save your game before trying this and you do it at your own risk. :) 77.86.192.101 22:42, 20 January 2012 (UTC) -dstarpain

Hjerim problems, unobtainable

I did all the stormcloak quests, got offered hjerim, had the gold so I tried to buy it. It said it was unavailable due to the unpleasantness or whatever - turns out the house is on a timer, in the game if you look at the ammount of days passed (in game time not real time) then if it is past 245 days then you cannot buy it no matter what you do, ive now started a new storyline from scratch and walked all the way there and started the stormcloak quests from the first oppertunity. — Unsigned comment by 86.178.158.108 (talk) at 13:03 on January 21, 2012

Possible work-around for XBOX Hjerim non-functional weapons mount bug

I have encountered the Hjerim house bug in various forms to include:

1. Weapon / display mounts fully functioning, but bloody mess left without any means to remove.
2. Weapon / display mounts completely non-functional, but bloody mess completely cleaned up and removed.
3. Weapon / display mounts completely non-functional AND bloody mess left without any means to remove.
4. Various decorating dialog choice options either removing option to "Remove Bloody Mess" or not registering it correctly when selecting it and paying the 500 gold.

After testing and experimenting with it about a dozen times, I tend to believe the problem is due to 2 or more independent bugs ( house decorating, Hjerim dialog script, etc ) that is encountered at the same time and being expressed in a variety of symptoms.

In my instance, the exact order of the decorating options picked gave a different result as list above. The exact order that seemed to provide the most successfull and function house was :

1. Pick any of the decorating options EXCEPT for:
a. Living Room
b. Remove Bloody Mess
2. Continue picking and paying for decorating options until "Living Room" and "Remove Bloody Mess" are the only ones left.
3. Pick "Remove Bloody Mess" second to last.
4. Pick "Living Room" last.
5. Enter the house.

These steps allowed for me to have a functioning Hjerim house even after the "Blood on the Ice" quest-line was complete and I originally entered the house much earlier as part of the investigation. ( Skyrim 1.3 on XBox ) — Unsigned comment by 75.23.219.182 (talk) at 20:37 on January 26, 2012

Hjerim Fix (For Me)

I just bought this house, when I read all he bugs people encountered in this house I was a little nervous that it would not work out for me. Here are the exact things I did.

First, I joined the Imperial Legion, and completed the quest "Joining the Legion" but not yet "The Jagged Crown". So, that left "The Jagged Crown" in my quest log for the next part.

Next, I went to Windhelm and located the graveyard. I started the quest "Blood on the ice". If you do not like spoilers, DO NOT READ ON!!! Anyway, instead of taking the long route and accusing Wuunferth the Unliving, Ulfric's court mage, I talked to Jorlief, or maybe it was Wuunferth...I don't remember, anyway. Next, he told me to patrol the stone quarter. I had already had suspicions of Calixto, and those were re-enforced with the fact that he pulled his dagger on a young woman, but I intervened at the last moment. Calixto was dead. I reported back to Jorlief.

Quite a long quest. After that, I finished every Imperial quest, including Battle For Windhelm. That made Brunwulf Free-Winter Jarl. I made sure to assist ONLY four people in WIndhelm, no more, no less. Before talking to Brunwulf again, I talked to Jorlief and purchased the house, and all the upgrades WITHOUT exiting the dialogue window AT ALL. (Make sure to buy Clean Up Murderer's Mess before Living room!)

After that, I talked to Brunwulf. He allowed me to become thane if I helped five people in his holld. Remember, I only helped four before. I helped the fifth person, and returned to Brunwulf. He offered me the title of thane, granted me Calder as a housecarl, and I went back to my house.

Note that you can enter your house before becoming thane, just steer clear of your house before you buy all your upgrades, and make sure to not exit the dialogue window with Jorlief before you have purchased every upgrade.

In that order, every weapon rack, placque and case worked for me. The only bugs I encountered were the chest that I saw people had in other videos wasn't in my home, and the two dagger display cases in the bedroom did not allow me to retrieve the daggers I'd previously placed in there.

Also, using that method, every part of Calixto's mess was gone, and the secret room looked fine for me. I hope this helps people! If there is anything I misspelled or mispronounced do not hesitate to change it. — Unsigned comment by 70.75.31.100 (talk) at 06:20 on 14 February 2012

Hjerim Mannequin Duplication Glitch

Today, I acquired some Ebony Armor from the smith in the stone quarter of Windhelm, along with some Gauntlets. Naturally, I was psyched do I headed back to my home and decided to prominently display those two pieces on my mannequin along with Savos Aren's Amulet and my Mage's Circlet. Then, I remembered that I had Ebony boots in my other house, Breezehome. I took all the armor off, went to whiterun, returned, and there was everything that I'd placed on the mannequin, spawned again! I checked my inventory, took the stuff off the mannequin and now I had 2 sets of ebony armor.

I researched this glitch, and found that other people had the same thing, Here's what I did:

I placed the armor I wanted duplicated onto the mannequin. WITHOUT leaving the inventory screen, I took all the armor back, exited, re-entered Hjerim and Viola! It's there!

Note: This only works on the mannequin on the left at the top of the stairs. The one on the right seems to not work (I haven't tried it, refer to either Elder Scrolls Wiki or possibly this very site)

This can be used to make coin with armor and shields, but DO NOT use it to try to duplicate dragon priest masks, or do so at your own risk. I would like to be on the safe side and this have not tried it, but unless you would like to keep that special creepy mask, do not try anything you would not do with your own personal possessions. I am not restricting or limiting you, you can do so if you want, but these are items I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING CHANCES WITH!

Arch-Mage's Robes Any Dragon Priest Masks Shied of Ysgramor daedric artifacts, his includes: Ebony Mail Masque of Clauvicus Vile Savior's Hide Ring of Hircine

Or anything special. Remember, I'm not restricting you, I'm just helping you not lose your valuables.

Hope this helps! — Unsigned comment by 70.75.31.100 (talk) at 05:14 on 15 February 2012

The chest box in the master bedroom isn't there

I am referring to the getting post hjerim without investigation targets and no glitches for the user above. I have done what you said, but the chest box is not there in the master's bedroom. I have played from beginning several times, with the first i remembered i got no bug and buy the house normally, and there is a chest if i remember correctly. Is there any way to correct this from after typing all those fixes? — Unsigned comment by 114.79.53.243 (talk) at 04:41 on 28 February 2012

My Method (360)

I think someone already mentioned a similar workaround, but mine, for clarity, is:

1) Do "Blood on the Ice" as normal, purchase the house during the quest to gain access.
1a) Make sure to investigate everything in the house, including the bed and chairs upstairs (not sure if this will fix the missing chest, see note)
2) After completing the quest, purchase "Clean up that murderer's mess" before anything.
3) Do not go to the house after purchasing, instead wait 10 or more days.
4) Speak to Jorleif and purchase all of the upgrades. "Clean up that murderer's mess" will be in the menu again, since you already bought it, you don't need to worry, but you can buy it again if you want to be sure.
5) Your house should be ready with all the racks, plaques, and cases working.

Note: My bedroom chest is missing. I think it has to do with not investigating the bed and chairs upstairs during "Blood on the Ice." This unsuccessful attempt to fix it followed step 2:

3) If you forgot to investigate the bed, return to the house and investigate the space behind the bed.
4) Wait 10 or more days.
5) Purchase all upgrades at once.

Furniture / housecarl bug as of 1.5.1

I've recently purchased Hjerim (PC, done the Blood on the Ice chain first, then let the Stormcloaks win, got the house offered from Ulfric). Purchased all upgrades, with the cleanup as first choice. However, one small room (top floor, SE room, opposite the master bedroom) is completely empty, and I didn't get a housecarl. Seems like Calden's room including himself wasn't spawned. I managed to summon Calden (prid a2c96, moveto player, enable), but I don't know how to manually spawn the room. WooShell 14:32, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

You don't actually get the housecarl or his room when purchasing the house-- you get it when becoming Thane. I'm not sure about using the console, since I play on the Xbox, but you may be able to use the console to complete the Thane quest or something. Here's the quest page: Skyrim:Thane of Eastmarch. Hope that helps. ABCface 14:36, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
That sounds like a logical reason. I was thinking you'd only get to buy a house when you become Thane, but that's different with Hjerim as you can get it as Stormcloak present as well. Need to check with Ulfric... — Unsigned comment by WooShell (talkcontribs) at 14:40 on 1 April 2012
Yeah, I'm pretty sure most of the houses can be purchased before becoming Thane. Not all of the housecarl rooms are empty without becoming Thane though, so there is some inconsistency in different cities. ABCface 14:44, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Ok, Ulfric made me Thane, and now the room is furnished and Calden is here. WooShell

Conditions for purchase

The second paragraph says, "Once allied with the Stormcloaks, the Fort Neugrad mission must be completed before Jorleif will make the house available for sale. However, once Falkreath Hold has been given to the Imperial Legion as part of Season Unending, it may be necessary to liberate Hjaalmarch before Jorleif will make this house available."

Ulfric offered the house to me after I completed Liberate Hjaalmarch; I have not completed the Fort Neugrad mission. Perhaps the paragraph should read, "Jorleif will make the house available for sale after you complete the first Liberate xx radiant mission." I don't know all the codes you guys use.

I don't remember which cities I gave to whom during Season Unending.Hyzakyt 01:14, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
