Inaccurate[edit]

This page's description is no longer completely accurate. Ralof (or Hadvar) is the npc who accompanies you through the starter dungeon. His relations should also be noted (Gerdur - Wife, Frodnar - Son, and Ralof - Brother-in-law). Lastly, he will give you 5 gold per piece of Firewood, which you can either chop yourself (with a Woodcutter's Axe) at 6 logs per go, or steal (notably from Faendal, who can also be found collecting wood, but for the Blacksmith, Alvor). — Unsigned comment by 24.247.177.201 (talk) at 05:08 on 13 November 2011 (GMT)

It seems hod doesn't seem to follow anything you need to go inside his house at 8 this makes him get to work in the morning, I will double check this but im pretty sure this is the case----Candc4, Also known as the Man Inside the Sexy Leather Pants CT 01:47, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
This is indeed the case I tested this at 9 am, by breaking in his house he came of his house right afterwards he went to work, this is indeed weird but true----Candc4, Also known as the Man Inside the Sexy Leather Pants CT 01:56, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
nope it turns out you need to break in once then he remembers to go to work I'll test this 3 more times and if this is the case I'll call this confirmed----Candc4, Also known as the Man Inside the Sexy Leather Pants CT 02:11, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Unconfirmed Hod seems to be glitchy as all hell if he's not there in the morning break into his house at 8am go to the mill and wait for an hour this should fix him----Candc4, Also known as the Man Inside the Sexy Leather Pants CT 02:37, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

() There's an easier way to get Hod to show up at the mill, especially when you're carrying too much firewood to run: waddle up to the mill and saw a log. That will trigger Hod to leave his house. Waddle back down and chop firewood two more times to burn time and to get another 60 worth of wood. By the time you've gone through two chopping cycles Hod will be on the small bridge next to the mill or on his way up the mill ramp. This worked for me every time. Then one day Hod tried to defend Riverwood from a dragon. — Unsigned comment by 144.58.54.153 (talk) at 21:19 on 7 February 2012 (GMT)

Another way to fix Hod is, as mentioned above, to walk up to the mill and saw a log. After the animation is complete (the hooks move back to the start), "wait" for 1 hour and Hod will appear at the mill directly afterwards and begin using it. This works every time for me (PC). --Sybarine (talk) 19:49, 23 March 2013 (GMT)

"You need to leave"[edit]

I chose to save Ralof and become Gerdur's and Hod's friend, but for some reason, Hod keeps spamming "You need to leave. You need to leave now." when I enter their house. When I talk to him, he has a normal tone as if I were his friend, but otherwise he just keeps spamming that message. I did not steal anything from their house or harm them in any way. Does anybody have any idea what has gone wrong? Aelyth 11:17, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

It is quite possible you enter and remain inside their home after the family has locked the door for the night. If so, just leave and come back in the morning. There is also a bug where Hod does not seem to follow his schedule. If so, he might also treat you as if you trespass. If so, just leave and enter a bit later. —MortenOSlash (talk) 18:39, 30 June 2013 (GMT)

Hod will stay at the mill "forever" as long as you keep him engaged[edit]

If you cut your own logs, and chop firewood during that, and continually engage in the sell firewood and "can I cut my own" dialog cycle for every 10 sawn logs, Hod will stay at the mill "forever". Or at least until you get bored. So take advantage of it when you get him there, sometimes it's a bit tricky to do. A game-day will get you well over 400 sawn logs, saving you >8000 and earning you >1200 at the same time. Hod has no problem watching you work... You probably only need to do this once per house. — Unsigned comment by 65.110.220.76 (talk) at 16:29 on 16 October 2017 (UTC)

you need to leave[edit]

After I slept 2 game hours until 7am he tells me you need to leave despite his wife telling me I'm welcomed to stay as long as you like. I don't know what's wrong with him unless he is only saying that because I'm playing as an Elf — Unsigned comment by PrinceRetro (talkcontribs) at 06:53 on 23 May 2018

This is common dialogue and the situation you described probably happened because you helped Gerdur. If that's not the case, then it may be related to the timing when you entered their house. —Dillonn241 (talk) 14:33, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
