Quest Bug[edit]

In my case he did not give me the quest when i was level 90, so i leveled to lvl 100 and then he gave it. He was also walking around and i was following him, talking to him every lvl. This was PC. No console used --31.151.125.202 18:30, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Confirmed, i encounter the same situation and i use Muffle to level up to 100 then the quest show up on Drevis. — Unsigned comment by 60.234.247.48 (talk) at 01:15 on 29 November 2011
I am also having difficulty finding the exact locations of the books. "The Legend of Red Eagle" in the "west" table of the Arcaneum doesn't exist. In fact, there is only one table in that area and no books on it. I have casted the Vision of the Tenth Eye spell multiple times, left the room multiple times and came back. I see absolutely no changes in the Arcaneum. Update: I found it lying on the floor, standing on the books' corner, in front of a bookshelf, across from the table in the west side of the Arcaneum. Also, there are two tables in that area, please confirm that it is the FIRST table on the west side, not the second. Possible bug or load error. (Perhaps this is the actual location? Need confirmation.) All other book locations are confirmed to be there.Aeonex 07:31, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
I am having the same problem. There are no books on those tables whatsoever. I have checked a few times and do not see the fourth book in the Arcaneum anywhere at all. It's surprising to learn that it could have been pushed off the table previously, since I assumed the books were just disabled at all times except when using the spell. I can't confirm the problem below where the book disappears when you approach, because it's possible it did that and I didn't notice. On my first pass through the college, I assumed the spell would make whatever I was looking for glow, so I wasn't looking at normal objects at all. 67.110.219.135 04:09, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
I have found this too. With any and each of my characters he only gave the quest after reaching level 100 in Illusion. Perhaps the "Prerequisite Quest" should be changed to "100 Level in Illusion" to be precise.Aran Mafre 22:56, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
This is a bug. It should not be set forth as the Prerequisite for the quest nor should it be described as the required level in First Steps. Both should be 90 not 100. Contributor Bign0se added in the bug and the cause of the bug in the Bugs section of the article during the first month of release and the Creation Kit clearly shows the prerequisite is 90 not 100.--DagmarH (talk) 04:35, 3 December 2012 (GMT)
Sorry, the CK clearly shows the prerequisite is 100. In the dialogue MGRitual02InitialBranch there is an explicit check for Illusion to be 100. The whole bug note is highly suspicious, there is simply no way to get the quest at skill level 90. The unofficial Patch changes that though. --Alfwyn (talk) 19:24, 16 February 2013 (GMT)

3rd book can be behind the barrels[edit]

The 3rd book, the one in Hall of Countenance, can be behind the barrels in the room mentioned. That's how it was in my game and it was very difficult to find even with the hint given here. 92.118.183.145 00:38, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Ok here is a hint: First Book At Arcaneum. If you find the Red Eagle Book on the floor beside the table, then its probably because u used a spell like Courage.(Those who create this huge cloud) Those spell might be powerful BUT they do push items. So if the Red Eagle Book got pushed away then the Master of Illusion Book too. I found it just across on the floor.
Hope it helped for those who pushed that invisible book without knowing it. — Unsigned comment by Franziskaner666 (talkcontribs) at 23:19 on 20 December 2011

Followup to bug if The Legend Of Red Eagle is not on the table[edit]

Also if you happen to see a book further away from the location mentioned, then running over can cause it just vanish this bug cannot be fixed so you'll have to restart from your last save. Someone please confirm. — Unsigned comment by 109.148.29.166 (talk) on 24 February 2012

Books Not There On First Cast[edit]

I have had the issue twice now where the books wont be there at all when I go looking. Happened in the Library and in the Teacher's Dorm. Checked everywhere, behind the barrels and all. Then recast the spell a second time after it wore off and boom they where right there. This might be related to the bug above, but I checked everywhere for them nearby. Removed bug note[edit]

  • If you buy a spell from Drevis Neloren he will not give you the quest once you get to 90 Illusion skill.
    • PCIf this happens use the following console command: setstage MGRitual02 10. This should give you the quest and the spell.
    • Drevis also has been known to give the quest at level 100, and not 90. Train to level 100 and there will be no need for the console.

I removed the preceding bug note from the article, it seems to stem from a misunderstanding that the quest should be available at skill level 90. --Alfwyn (talk) 19:35, 16 February 2013 (GMT)

What does the note mean?[edit]

"Version 1.2.6 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch changes the Destruction skill level requirement to 90 to be consistent with the other ritual spells." Im not sure where the problem is; is this supposed to say Illusion, or is this supposed to be Destruction but not supposed to be on this page? Either way, someone should fix it to whichever version of correct its supposed to be. 74.134.243.62 02:32, 4 March 2013 (GMT)

Drevis doesn't have the option when I take him the four books[edit]

I have the four books and go to Drevis, but he doesn't have the option to let me give them to him.

The quest marker points to him, and the quest objective is updated to "Bring the Four Master Illusion texts to Drevis Neloren", but the only options he has are "What have you got for sale?", "I'd like you to train..." and "Which are the best illusion spells?".

I'm on Xbox 360 with the 1.9 update. I wonder if it's anything to do with making Illusion Legendary? (it's currently on 20)Speccy (talk) 20:19, 8 April 2013 (GMT)

I just encountered the very same nuisance. Patch 1.9.32.0 and the Illusion skill is now legendary, could that be the reason Drevis Neloren won't accept the books? ~HellRider talk mail 19:37, 10 July 2013 (GMT)
Legendary does not make your skill 100+ in terms of the quest. It checks that your skill is over 90, and only then can you do the quest. You will need to level Illusion back up to 90 in order to proceed with the quest. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:07, 29 July 2013 (GMT)

Cannot complete quest -- PS3[edit]

I have one copy of three of the books and two of the fourth text (not sure how that happened). I'm level 100 in illusion and have not set the skill to legendary. When I go talk to Drevis Neloren, however, there is no dialogue option that would permit me to give him the texts. The mission objective does indicate that I should give him the books. Any idea what's going on? I have not started the Arniel Gane quest, and I have not completed the College of Winterhold quest line. 66.87.121.1 21:47, 7 January 2015 (GMT) cagliostro9

Similar problem to above[edit]

I have a set of two text that are not stolen, a set of two texts that are and another text stacked separately that is also not stolen. No idea how that happened. When I go to give the guy the books the dialogue option to do so doesn't appear, only the option to start the quest. Selecting this doesn't restart the quest, he just says his usual dialogue and the option to start the quest reappears after he finishes talking. Also the quest marker doesn't appear and the next stage of the quest didn't start. 360 12/28/15 — Unsigned comment by 107.210.232.229 (talk) at 06:33 on 28 December 2015 (UTC)
