Massacre at Karthwasten?[edit]

During Season Unending, one of the possible dialogs mentions a massacre at Karthwasten. What exactly happened and is it worth mentioning on this page? MadocComadrin 19:04, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

I think it was by Ulfric Stormcloak and his men when he was still with the empire. Around the same time they regained Markarth from the Forsworn. Presumably because Ulfric hates all who are not Nords. Im not 100% sure tho. Kimi the Elf 19:25, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
Looking through the dialogue, it seems that Karthwasten isn't necessarily the location of the massacre as it can occur at several different places (Anga's Mill, Barleydark Farm, Frost River Farm, Granite Hill, Half-moon Mill, Heartwood Mill, Heljarchen, Ivarstead, Karthwasten, Kolskeggr Mine, Loreius Farm, Old Hroldan, Riverwood, Rorikstead, Sarethi Farm, Shor's Stone, Stonehills, and Whistling Mine) and that either the Empire or the Stormcloaks can be accused of it. I remember wondering what was going on when I got to this bit of the quest and thinking I must have missed something, but it might just be a Radiant thing. I'm not sure. rpeh •TCE 19:30, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
Ah, that makes sense (game-wise at least). MadocComadrin 19:50, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Horsing around..[edit]

I don't know if I'm the first to encounter this glitch or if it is specific to this town, so I'd like to hear from others on this matter. Thanks.

I'm playing on the 360 as a level 7 wood elf. Walking overencumbered with Faendal in tow, I came to a Stormcloak camp north of Karthwasten. I sold stuff to the quartermaster to unemcumber myself, then I borrowed the brown horse and rode to Karthwasten. I approached two miners talking and dismounted the horse to speak to them, but I immediately got back on the horse when he started walking away. At this point, the screen hiccupped between 1st and 3rd person view and then it happened..

I hear the horse's footsteps as I walk away, unable to switch to third person view or even control my movement besides looking around. My female wood elf is running around looking confused with both weapons drawn and I'M THE HORSE! I tried moving freely and switching views to no avail. I even fast traveled back to the Stormcloak camp and then to 2 different locations. It was the same each time. My character was running back and forth with weapons drawn and I was stuck standing there as the horse, only able to look around in 1st person view, listening to the horse breathing. Finally, I had to reload a save in order to return to my body.

Has this happened to anyone else? - EnigManic 14:46, 19 January 2012

I had something weird happen to me here too, though not as weird as that. As a level 52 Breton magic user, I fast-traveled here from Whiterun with Shadowmere (not on him as he was in a stable when I started), and when I arrived, turned around, and went to mount him, I was smacked in the head by the corpse of a hagraven, which fell out of the sky and dropped to the ground at my feet. The hagraven was not only dead but empty, and did not have a name. WTF?? 174.6.51.17 04:20, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
once as i walked out of a forge and a dragon just randomly fell out of the sky — Unsigned comment by 76.31.3.92 (talk) at 18:38 on 1 August 2012
Hello! I've experienced the random dead Blood Dragon problem. I don't know what causes that to happen. I don't know the cause for Hagravens to have that problem. I haven't had it yet. But I do know about the horse experience, as I had it with a fox. There's a Console Command, that allows you to take over an NPC, and become that NPC, even if it is an animal/creature/beast/monster. If you make a typo when trying to do another command, you'll surprise yourself as I did, when suddenly I'm a fox that is trying to catch up to my character and followers. But as you've stated, that same error can occur without using the Console. I had a problem similar to yours. I was trying to determine if the fox was a follower or just a random wild fox, by clicking on it to talk to it. Instead, I became it, after the screen stopped flickering. Learning about the Console Command, was how I made the switch back to my character. I think that problems like this may be due to mods that alter views, and you have more than one in use. But I forgot about this issue until I read about yours. So I've not done anything about it. EDIT: I just realized that what I wrote makes it look like I experienced it in two different ways. I did. First was the accident, with the clicking. Then when trying out the Console Command, I experimented. Leo Star Dragon 1 (talk) 17:23, 26 March 2014 (GMT)

Ghost town[edit]

I really don't know how to edit wikis, so I'll leave it to the folks who know what they're doing. I traveled to Karthwasten on the mission The Heart of Dibella only to find the town abandoned after the scripted conversation between the two groups. I scoured the net for a solution, finding none. With a cross of my fingers, I used the console command recycleactor for each of the npcs RefIDs and succesfully reopulated the town, thus able to continue the quest. for quick reference, the NPC IDs are: 00019931, 00019932, 00019933, 00019934, 00019935, 00019936, 000622E7 - 71.229.227.191 04:04, 3 December 2013 (GMT)

removed ghost town note[edit]

I've removed the note stating that Karthwasten is the only settlement that can be turned into a ghost town. I don't think it is that notable. The note was: "Karthwasten is the only town in Skyrim that can be turned into a ghost town. No one but Enmon is essential and Enmon can be killed during the quest The Heart of Dibella. Once everyone is dead, the town will be empty forever." -- SarthesArai Talk 23:27, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

If it's true and unique to only this location, I would say it's notable. --MetaCthulhu (talk) 21:12, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
