Lydia is invisible

Yesterday, I realized that Lydia randomly disappeared so I decided to teleport her to me with “a2c94.moveto player” but she didn’t seem to come. After that, I tried teleporting to her with “player.moveto a2c94” and it took me to the spot where I typed the other command, but she wasn’t there. I’ve tried reloading the game and going out then coming back in but that still didn’t do anything. What do I do? I had a lot of valuables on her. 76.93.42.207 22:44, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Try typing "enable a2c94"--67.219.227.73 02:19, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Lydia saying stuff when in a brawl.

If you have Lydia with you when you're in a brawl, she will make some comments during it. Should that be added? In like a "Notes" section or something? — Unsigned comment by Laaarrrg (talkcontribs)

All followers will do this. They say the standard brawl-onlooker stuff that all NPCs say. GrogGrogGrog 15:59, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Lydia seems to be following someone else!

After completing the "Containment" quest (in the College of Winderhold quest series) by killing the Magic Anomalies, Lydia seems to have started following a NPC at the College (can't remember which one now). I recall seeing the title "<Someone's> Lydia", where Someone is the name of a NPC when I hovered the cursor on her. Then she disappeared, and I haven't seen her since (or any of my stuff she is currently carrying/wielding).

Is this part of the game design, or some sort of bug? 173.79.245.44 14:23, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

If she's labelled "<someone's> Lydia" that suggests she's died and been reanimated by an NPC. So you'll probably find an ash pile nearby. --Gaebrial 14:58, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
It must have been Arniel Gane. He will resurrect anyone who dies in the battle against the Magic Anomalies, and I mean anyone. Once I saw him resurrect a chicken. I was watching Arniel swing at a mob of Magic Anomalies with his bare fists while his purple-smoking chicken zombie sat uselessly nearby. Good job, Arniel. GrogGrogGrog 16:07, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Lydia's updated marriage option.

As of Patch 1.5, Lydia can now be married. I am going to add that to her section now. 72.68.154.112 21:07, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Well, technically. The patch is only in Beta and as such hasn't been released. I don't really know what the stance on this is. --kiz talkemail 21:42, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
It's better to wait until the patch has been released across all platforms and tested. --Krusty 21:45, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

You know you guys are right, I'm sorry I reacted too quickly and added that to her page. I'm just very excited to see this bug along with other numerous bugs finally fixed. 72.68.154.112 14:40, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

LYDIA EQUIPMENT DEFAULT = FAIL

I can't seem to keep Lydia from switching to her default armor when equipping Ancient Nord Armor. I've removeallitems on her and tried equipping the Ancient Nord Armor and BAM she's back to wearing her defaultz.

I tried removeallitems on Farkas and gave him Ancient Nord Armor...he didn't reset to defaults like Lydia.

I think the programmers purposefully JINXT Lydia.

I just think Banded Iron Armor and Ancient Nord Armor looks better than Steel and Dwarven etc...I know...it's counter-intuitive...but that's how I think.

Fus Ro Fo Sho Theindividual 12:09, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

As I understand it, she'll only equip other armor if it's an upgrade. Looking at the information for steel armor, Ancient Nord armor, and banded iron armor, the Ancient Nord and banded iron armors aren't as good as the steel, which is why she won't wear them. –Eshetalk 14:50, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

I got her to wear anything I want her now by removeitem then adding the equipment to her inventory and then equipitem. Earlier I used Removeallitems which doesn't work cuz the default items spawn again.Theindividual 05:00, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Lydia is invisible (Typing "enable a2c94" - Doesn't work)

I got Lydia from the Jarl, I went down to the entrance to see if she was there. Nothing. I've looked everywhere, Dragonsreach, Breeze. I've tried typing in the console. But nothing, just as same as the top person (#Lydia is invisible) have.

So I figured I should try the same, the console gives me an error;

"Unknown variable 'a2c94' for parameter Integer (Optional)

Compile script not saved!".

When I type "enable a2c96". Please help... --84.209.19.101 15:34, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

If you're lucky, "prid a2c94" then "enable". If not, it sounds like you've run into Skyrim_talk:Dragon_Rising#Lydia_failing_to_spawn. Aliana 21:39, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Lydia is stuck waiting, won't follow or leave regardless of console commands

I told Lydia to wait in the bantered mare, then I forgot about her and left. Did some quests, fast traveled a bunch, etc. when I realize Lydia isn't following, I go back to breezehome and find her but shes unable to follow when I click "follow me" and she won't leave when I click "its time for us to part ways". Console commands kill, enable/disable, recycleactor don't fix this. Downloading a multiple followers mod doesn't work either. On top of this, typing "help Lydia 4" into the console will bring up an npc named Lydia with another actor id, but this npc is bugged in the same way. — Unsigned comment by 166.249.97.225 (talk) on 2 April 2012

I'm having the same problem and I can't get her fixed no matter what I do. I went so far as to completely uninstall Skyrim and reinstall and still no joy. The bug is somehow bound up in the savegame and the only way that I have found to get it out is to revert way back to a previous savegame without the bug, that's just not happening.— Unsigned comment by 98.186.184.250 (talk) on 7 April 2012
I've had the same problem - the code you know sometimes just generates a buggy clone of lydia. Try ff000da8 — Unsigned comment by 178.5.226.199 (talk) at 11:08 on 7 October 2012‎
I've had the same problem and, I don't know how, it solved itself. I fast traveled few times with lydia (she didn't make any move, just stay in one place), then I left her at a totally random location ("its time for us to part ways" - it was not breezehome!) and fast traveled few times without her. then i visited breezehome (she wasn't there), fast traveled to the location i left her at (she wasn't there either), fast traveled once more to breezehome and she was already there. when i asked her to follow me, everything was ok. 88.156.240.23 18:15, 14 November 2012 (GMT)

Lydia is unenthusiastic?

This is just a general, non-game related question, does anyone else feel as though Lydia sounds like she's really not into her job? Her tone, whenever asking her to do something (i.e carry equipment, follow orders), she sounds like it's a real bother to do it, even though she's trying to say that she promises to do a lot of things. — Unsigned comment by 130.157.33.52 (talk) at 05:23 on 8 April 2012

Yes, she doesn't seem to care about much. You are not the only person who has gotten tired of her lack of zest for life. You can always try Jordis in Solitude. She is like a ray of sunshine — Unsigned comment by 74.92.175.137 (talk) on 8 May 2012

Lydia's Equipment

The article incorrectly states that you can't take her starting weapons from her. You can in fact take her steel sword from her. It also fails to mention the starting weapon that you can't take from her, which is her default bow, and it fails to mention why you can't take these items from her, i.e. that the items are not visible in her inventory trade window. I'll give it a few days to see if anyone can provide an explanation. Otherwise I'll edit the article afterwards.--DagmarH 17:30, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

I had the same thing on my unpatched game. I could see her default armor (but not take it) and see and take her steel sword, but I couldn't see her bow. Then recently her default armor vanished from the menu, and I can't remember if I noticed shortly before I finally downloaded the patches, or after.--Playerseekingbugs 07:41, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
Just noticed something odd about Lydia's bow. I had given her a daedric bow that could make draugr up to level 30 flee, and was frustrated that she seemed to be insisting on using her hunting bow. The bow she had in her hands was definitely her hunting bow in appearance. However, the first time we got into a mixup with a couple of high-level draugr, the first one she hit ran like the wind and I had to chase the damn thing half way across the dungeon before I could kill it. It seems clear that although the graphic was that of her hunting bow, the effect was that of the specially enchanted daedric bow she had been given but could not be seen using. Anyone else notice this? --174.6.51.17 22:28, 20 September 2012 (GMT)

Becoming hostile

I was a bit surprised to find Lydia becoming hostile when the chap at the Riften stables challenged me to a brawl. I think a horse became involved in the altercation, which I guess should come as no surprise as their involvement caused all sorts of silliness in Oblivion, but her suddenly unreliable loyalty was rather disconcerting nonetheless. Reloading and wandering away from the horses solved the problem, but I'm left wondering if this may be indicative of a larger problem. --Vometia 20:16, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

house??

how do I buy the house in whiterun??— Unsigned comment by 72.12.74.64 (talk) at 03:16 on 2 June 2012

You need to have finished this quest - Breezehome can then be purchased from the Jarl's steward. Kitkat TalkContribE-mail 12:36, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Lydia the criminal?

I was going through the intro quest to the Amethyst Hollows Dreamworld, and when I got in the house I was missing Lydia. After spending quite a while in the house, and eventually leaving, Lydia was no longer following me. I zoned and she didn't appear, so I decided to do a moveto to get to her... she was locked up in the Dawnstar jail! I broke her out and we went on our merry way, but I can't help but wonder what she did to get herself locked up... 174.30.132.8 06:40, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

This happened to me too, but in Whiterun. All of a sudden I realized she was no longer following me. I tried to zone and fast travel, but nothing. At last, I used the console to move to her refId and... she was locked in Whiterun jails!. I reloaded (don't want to save after console usage), and went to the Jarl palace, only to find her spawning in front of the barracks door and starting following me again without any interaction needed. Weird, just... weird. --Maurotdo (talk) 20:33, 30 December 2012 (GMT)

Lydia continually equips armor that have taken and sold already.

Lydia keeps reequipping her branded iron armor after i load a new area even after i take it from her and sell it. The items return to her inventory and even after i remove all her inventory and dismiss her when i go back to her she has the branded armor and old weapons equipped. I cant find a way to reset her to her default equipment and have even started a new file and she is still bugged. — Unsigned comment by 24.12.88.231 (talk) at 19:10 on 30 June 2012

Will not equip light armor, no matter how good it is?

Is it just me, or will Lydia won't equip light armor at all, no matter how superior to her default steel armor it is? I've tried giving her improved glass armor and she will not equip it. If I give her crappy Dwarven armor she'll happily wear it. Can anyone confirm this, and if so can it be added to the Notes section of the article? I'm on XBox by the way. Kretik 20:19, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

NPCs will only wear an armor from their highest skill, no matter how bad it is. There are exceptions with some helmets but that's about it, not really specific to Lydia or even followers in general Elakyn 09:32, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
Hi, you can find a more detailed explanation about followers' equipment of what the above editor was talking about here. ~ Psylocke 10:48, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for the explanation. I will note that Lydia will happily equip legendary-level Ebony armor given to her, so maybe I'm not understanding how this works. In any case, it was mostly curiosity; I rarely go around with a follower these days except for J'Zargo or Serana. @kretik (talk) 17:47, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
It should be remembered that how "good" an item is is because of your skill level, so if your 1H skill is 100, and 2H is 10, then the 1H weapon will rate much higher in damage stats. In the case of Lydia she has 100 Heavy and 20 Light, so an average heavy armour item will give her more protection than a good light armour piece. — Unsigned comment by 124.148.234.45 (talk) at 18:56 on 22 August 2012
It's just you. Seriously, though, Lydia is more than happy to wear the Dragonscale armor I've given her - so while she may prefer heavy armor, she'll wear light armor. Note that when you first ask her to follow you, she may still be wearing her default armor. Simply do a quick trade item with her, and she'll equip her light armor. Especially if you've taken the time to enhance it to legendary status. Agmen (talk) 19:40, 11 January 2013 (GMT)

Lydia and Serana

These two have gotten along suprisingly well, but I have noticed that virtually everytime anything attacks, she shouts stuff she should only be saying only while fighting vampires. I guess it might just be that there is a vampire in the area (even if she's friendly), but it is kind of odd to hear her shout "Vampire!" while a dragon is landing right in front of her. — Unsigned comment by 75.205.187.123 (talk) at 22:30 on 19 August 2012

The above comment is mine (I forgot to sign in). I can confirm that Lydia's fight dialogue is off since Serana first joined us. Even when I don't have Serana also following me she says things like "Burn the vampire!" while firing arrows at dragons or bashing non-vampiric bandits and Falmer.--Playerseekingbugs 19:07, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
It only requires a vampire in the battle area for NPCs to shout "Burn the vampire!". My character is a vampire and NPCs in fighting act like they all know my identity. :) 134.82.201.189 17:05, 19 September 2012 (GMT)
Yep, this is standard NPC dialogue, not unique to Lydia. I've had it with Faendal as well. — ABCface 18:46, 19 September 2012 (GMT)

Economic value of weapon?

I'm curious, Lydia seems to equip the most valuable weapon, (except for bows), in her inventory. Wondering if anyone else has noticed this, or if it's just some oddity.

For a long time I had her using 2H, (since I wanted to be 1H/shield), and that was fine, then I learned she had hight 1H, so I gave her a vanilla ebony war axe.

Then I gained the Mace of Molag Bal. I though that would suit her better due to it's stam/mag damage and soul trap ability. Upgraded both weapons to epic, and even though the mace does more straight up damage, she still preferred the ebony war axe. The only difference was the value of the weapon.

I gave her an epic Holy Ebony war axe, (just to hold), with the same damage stats as the vanilla epic ebony axe, and she used that over the unenchanted axe, (apart from enchantment, the only other difference was it's higher value). When I took the axes out of her inventory, she went to a 2H hammer, which was again more expensive than the mace.

Can't be arsed to do a thorough test ATM, so is this a pattern others are noticing, or something to do with this particular mace? 124.148.234.45 19:23, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

No, it's the same thing for every follower. The most expensive gear is often the, so they equip it when given over a cheaper one, even if it means doing less damage or being less protected. Elakyn 19:59, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

The sweet demure homicidal maniac.

Wearing full Daedric armor and wielding Chillrend, Lydia managed to slaughter every NPC in Whiterun. Keeping her on a short leash can be a serious problem.

  • If you want to explore every possible interaction with NPCs and passive creatues, you might not want Lydia as your follower. I'm not sure if she's got a broken script or if the developers intended her to be this way. I think the latter for her tendency to come up behind an enemy, grab then and slit their throats. Be that as it may, her agressiveness can cause the player to miss a lot of dialogue and roleplay opportunities. Sniffles 02:52, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Confirmed, here. Lydia can be (and sometimes is) ridiculously, insanely aggressive. If you're a "thief"-type and rarely have your weapons out because you rely more on stealth than stomping, this isn't a problem. She'll tag along quietly like any other follower, and her dialogue with you when you interact with her reflects a slightly naive, pleasant person. For example, throw healing on her even if she's not wounded, and she'll look at you in amazement and say in a voice full of awe "A healing spell? Are you a priest?" HOWEVER: If you're a "fighter" type and often have your weapons out when wandering around (or a "mage" type who does the same), you must be VERY careful. Even the slightest hostility towards you, and SHAZAM! She goes kill-crazy and (if she's wearing the right gear) will literally kill every single NPC in any of the major towns. And if you use first-person view, there's damned little you can do to stop it - she moves VERY fast, is EXTREMELY hard to click on in first-person because of narrower field of view, and just runs from opponent to opponent and hacking them down. Mine literally annihilated an entire town of NPC's and didn't take a scratch. Damn that ebony gear I gave her worked great, but I had to restart from a previous save and tell Madame Quisinart to wait outside while I handled the townsfolk in a far less dramatic manner. Hey, when she said she'd defend your life, she meant it - even if that means she has to slaughter every other living being in Skyrim to do it. 67.0.120.84
moved the following from the article:
  • Lydia is a highly aggressive follower. Depending upon circumstances and your character's condition such as having a weapon out, she may attack NPCs and creatures that you could otherwise engage in dialogue. As example, potential dog followers may get hacked to pieces before you can make their acquaintance or occasionally, Hunters encountered in the wilderness who have weapons drawn dealing with creatures may get hacked up with the enemy. If you engage in any combat while she is near other neutral NPCs or monsters, she may turn into a Cuisinart. This can domino into her taking on the guards and citizens of a city.

To me, the above does not sound like something which occurs for most players. It would be useful to know what platform and version the two users who have posted here so far are playing on-- if it's actually true, then it may be a new bug. In any case, something like this should be more generalized and concise if it's going to be on the article, as well as in the Bugs section rather than Notes section. — ABCface 20:20, 6 September 2012 (EDT)
Google says it appears to be a pretty common experience, both console and PC, and my guess after some experimentation is that it has to do with whether your weapons are out or not. I'm on PC. And that's about all I'll add, since the last time I contributed to this talk page, the entire section I contributed to (this one) got snipped. 67.0.81.88

How much advantage is there to Lydia's 1H skill?

I found out just now that Lydia has a 1H skill. Since the beginning of my game I have had her with 2h weapons. Right now she has a 2h Ancient Nordic Sword of Scorching or something like that, and she cuts down enemies super fast with it. — Unsigned comment by Cmo999 (talkcontribs) at 17:56 on 5 October 2012

Respawning?

Okay so there have been reports on the IRC and on several other sites of Lydia respawning in the Whiterun Hall of the Dead after she dies. Can anyone confirm this and post some proof like a video or something to confirm this. Lord Eydvar Talk|Contribs 20:37, 28 October 2012 (GMT)

Looking in the CS, Lydia appears to have a Respawn factor of "0", which I'm assuming means that she does not respawn. So no, she should not be respawning.--Skyrimplayer (talk) 20:50, 28 October 2012 (GMT)
Yeah we've got people in the IRC looking into that as well and it doesn't seem to be one persons unique weird thing... seems to be an occasional bug. But working on getting a definite Yes or No. Lord Eydvar Talk|Contribs 20:52, 28 October 2012 (GMT)
