Spell Tomes[edit]

Anyone know if he will sell you any of the new Restoration spell tomes --SPMcKinney 06:28, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Swords[edit]

are the swords he sells lvled? meaning will i randomly get daedric or is it guaranteed — Unsigned comment by 68.231.197.3 (talk) at 19:13 on 9 August 2012

(PS3 user) I'm curious about this too. I just re-loaded about 250 times (yes, literally) to see if he sold daedric swords, but the highest my (level 81) character ever got was ebony. I know daedric is rare, but come on! Was I really unlucky, or is there a level cap? MrC (talk) 12:58, 14 March 2013 (GMT)
Actually, the more I think about it, the more convinced I become that Morven Stroud has some kind of "merchant" level cap, since very few merchants sell daedric equipment. Still, I'll be curious to see what other users (especially those with access to the construction kit) can find out. MrC (talk) 17:11, 4 April 2013 (GMT)
I was wrong. See "Swords vs. Battleaxes" section below. MrC (talk) 23:06, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

"He may also sell junk to high level characters."[edit]

What does this mean? He will exchange 'junk' for gold (money)? What kind of 'junk'? I first encountered him when I was at level 77, and I only had the five transaction options listed toward the bottom of the page: sword, axe, light armor, heavy armor, and spell tome. Do we need to remove this statement? Username12345 (talk) 18:48, 22 September 2012 (GMT)

I'm pretty sure whoever wrote that meant that you may receive an "Iron Sword of Crappiness" or whatever, even if you're a high-level character. Weroj (talk) 19:33, 28 October 2012 (GMT)
I removed it. Junk is junk, and there is no prove he sells it. Low level items/tomes are not junk items, no matter how useless they might be to a high-level character. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:40, 24 November 2012 (GMT)

random loot[edit]

after spending about 2 hours loading spell tomes to spend my 125 thingies on as a level 45 player i've come to the conclusion he can load any spell tome from novice to expert at this level except unique books or expansion books. (he only loads the vanilla spells). i was quite pleased to get my melee heavy character the invisibility, wall of storms, icy spear, grand healing and paralyze tomes. especially invisibility as i have never leveled illusion high enough to get this spell before. Daggerfall reference?[edit]

Forgive me, but I have never played it. But his dialogue seems pretty specific, and perhaps referential. 70.197.2.234 03:59, 8 December 2013 (GMT)

Swords vs. Battleaxes[edit]

(Tested using a level 81 character) Morven Stroud's weapons are leveled and enchanted (as the article states), and both the swords (one-handed) and battleaxes (two-handed) appear to be drawn from the Generic Magic Weapons list (see here), as all of the enchantments from that list seemed available for either weapon. However, the QUALITY of each weapon is vastly different.

For SWORDS, Iron or Steel is still the most likely "style" received, even at high levels. Be prepared to reload several times if you want a higher quality item (or MANY times if you want Daedric). During over three hundred re-loads, my character received only twenty-nine Ebony swords and just ONE Daedric. All of the other standard "styles" of sword were also present (except for Ancient Nord and Imperial), as were certain iron maces (as the article states) with Stamina Damage effects.

For BATTLEAXES, the opposite is true. During sixty reloads, my character received fifty-four Ebony and SIX Daedric battleaxes. No lower quality items (Iron/Steel/Orcish/Dwarven/Elven/Glass) were received at all. I have to presume they're available for lower-level characters, but at level 81, my character never encountered these "styles" of battleaxe.

Fortunately, Stroud's items are determined upon each "transaction" (which means you can reload until you get the enchanted sword or battleaxe you prefer). Unfortunately, I have no idea when certain levels trigger--but the overall levels referenced on the Generic Magic Weapons page might also be accurate for Stroud's inventory. I don't know if a PC user can use the construction set to access that information or not. (PS3 user) MrC (talk) 00:34, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Detailed Leveled Lists[edit]

There are a few posts above that want answers, but the best way to address them all at once is a new section. First of all, I've used this script as my basis for Morven's merchandise, which comes from his hidden quest Soul Cairn Husk Merchant. Next, no he doesn't have DLC spell tomes, weapon level is not guaranteed, spell tomes bypass the (in this users opinion) unhelpful system for tomes from spell merchants as it only uses overall player level, and Swords and Battleaxes use equal lists so the findings above are purely anecdotal. Also I could find no maces or axes in the sword list to back the claim in the note on the page. As it is pretty huge I didn't go through them all, but this link is where every possibility can be found from, and if one is an axe or mace its a mistake with the list given its the dungeon list too.
